You don't have to go to Mexico to be a part of it . I live in California and made my first altar and has turned out pretty good . I set my altar on a sideboard that has a mirror and shelves .I strung some lights, put marigolds , candles and photos of my dead relatives and friends.This is going to be a yearly event from now on.
The Day of the Dead is not just about remembering them, the offerings on the altars is because they go down to the world for one day, depending on the day, the children come down, the adults on another day, and the last day is when they retire. They are not just parties to remember them, they are to welcome them to this world again
All of this is never and cannot be approved by GOD and this is why way too many Mexicans are living a lie and mocking the lord GOD and besides that GOD IS A GOD OF THE LIVING NOT THE DEAD.The dead are asleep and no nothing and yet they do this satanic rituals like this here.
