@@nitinb3758 exactly… not just Sri Lanka. There are very few cricketers globally who are as educated as Sanga. Hence you’ll see a more objective and holistic perspective from someone like him, Dravid, Athers, Nasser, etc.

Rajvansh Chauhan he speaks old fashioned proper srilankan English not the accents perpetuated and adapted by the new rich srilankans which is half influenced by Hollywood or something. You would only know if you have traveled to Srilanka and mingled with traditional English speaking Srilankans.

Wow the point about not seeing test cricket as a cash cow.... and the way forward is to market it differently.... try to build up create series/rivalries similar to the Ashes.... Sanga should be running the ICC 😀
Given that he is currently chairman of the MCC, it does look like he might see himself as a cricket administrator ICC President doesn't seem like something that couldn't happen.

This guy is seriously one of my favourites of all time. Excellent batsman and always very smart when he's interviewed. Definitely one of the greats.
Sanga knows so much about so much. One of the greatest. Nothing but admiration and respect for him.
and is humble enough to know when he doesn't know it all. a rare quality
I love Cricket, but rarely does a cricketer as a person inspires me. The list is short but Sanga has definitely made it. Atherton and Nasser Hussain are also among the rare group. Another name that may be new for many is Pakistan's test opener Shaan Masood. He's also very articulate, humble and extremely well spoken. We should cherish these gems because they're so rare.

So, this is a 5 year old interview. Still relevant to this day. Sanga is one of those - so eloquent off the field, so prudent on the field.

It is not often that the English or Australians regard a younger, Asian player as an equal. Sanga has achieved that status effortlessly
from about 9:15 on. wow! so humble and self aware. I always think the best leaders are the reluctant ones, you dont want the 'power', but your colleagues/peers realise what you have to offer. When was this recorded?
Sanga u r the greatest cricketer i have seen, not because of ur talent but beacuse of ur leadership. U stood with ur teammates rite til the end, u showed them wat the real meanings is to win a game of cricket. Its nothing else but to show ur true character.
If u want to win a game in cricket, u need patience, u need skill, also passion and also luv for the game, i don't know y else u wud play the game of cricket.

Nasser, Atherton, Ian Bishop, Michael Holding, Ramiz, Harsha, Mark Taylor, Mel Jones, Isha, Sthalekar, Simon, Jarrod Kimber being other knowledged broadcasting individuals in cricket.

sachin played whole 24 years(1989 to 2013) and retired at 40 and sanga played only 15 years (2000 t0 2015) and retired 37
I am not comparing Sachin with sanga but you have to be aware that how good sanga is as a batsman

I fell in love with cricket watching the '96 SL team. Kaluwitharna and Jayasuriya were devastating. SL produced so many greats, but where are they now? Something is wrong with SL cricket 😧

Yes Sri Lanka won in 96, but dont forget India who won twice especially in 2011, and we had a game changer called Dhoni i.e. Thala who won it for India.
