This has been very informative, thank you! For years, I relied heavily on QuickKeys and lamented its demise. I had purchased Keyboard Maestro as a replacement, but it seemed too complicated and limited (it was really a case of teaching an old dog new tricks!). I suffered the loss of my efficient workflows for about two years before retiring. I have been an admirer of Peter Lewis’ work since his early days as a developer for the Mac, after all, in those early days, it was inspirational to have a fellow Aussie forging the way ahead! Now that I am approaching my eightieth year and with a shiny new MacBook Pro added to my bulging Mac collection, after watching your video, it is time for me to dust off Keyboard Maestro and get on with setting up some actions. This has potentials that leave QuickKeys in the dust, and probably has forever!
Great video. But two questions. 1. Would you advise that we set up all our keyboard shortcuts for all of our apps in KM rather than create custom keyboard shortcuts on a per-app basis so that all of our shortcuts live in one central repository? 2. If a particular app has a certain keyboard shortcut and then you assign that shortcut to a different trigger in KM, which shortcut takes precedence? The one created in KM or the one in the app? Thanks again!
Thanks! 1. I'm not sure what you mean by creating custom shortcuts on a per app basis? But yes, I add my custom shortcuts to KM. 2. I've never tried this as I prefer to create unique shortcuts so I don't conflict with the default ones.
Paul do you have a keyboard maestro set up to do the following. Set Keynote as the active program and then advance slide. Also make eCamm the active program and the run a hotkey to change to a certain scene? I haven’t seen in maestro how to make a program active.
Just found your videos recently. Very well done. Thank you. I need to automate a page or two of text that is formatted. I use the keyboard fill in function on my apple devices but it doesn’t work for formatted text. What would you recommend? Thank you!
The TextExpander app is a bit limited on iOS and some formatting may not work. There's not really anything you can do as the OS has restrictions on the app.
I am using keyboard maestro with my MacBook Pro on a 49in ultra-wide and I use the same 6 browsers daily. Can you please help me figure out the size of the webpages to the specific sides. Thanks so much! You have a new subscriber!
I love the Zoom mute idea. But it requires that Zoom be in the foreground. Often I'm "multi-tasking" and Zoom is not in the foreground. The hunt begins to get it into the foreground, then find the unmute button and then issue the standard apology, "Sorry, couldn't find the unmute button." Can you make a macro work on apps that aren't in the foreground?
Good observation. You can actually get around this by using the "Activate Zoom" action. So even if I'm in another app, I can hit my keyboard shortcut, KM will activate Zoom and mute the mic 👍
Thanks for the video! Do you know if there's a way to get it to program a usb pedal (x-keys xk-3) to left click the mouse? I was using Controllermate for this and it worked great, but is alas the company no longer exists.... I'm not sure if Keyboard Maestro is the right application. All I need the external usb pedal to do is left-click. Any help would be much appreciated!
@@minor-co Ok maybe I can manage to replicate it by triggering a python script with keyboard maestro and then checking for the other letters pressed in it. Will see when my company finally switch to mac. Thanks for the information anyway :)
Really great introduction for the typical power user that hasn't discovered Keyboard Maestro yet. Thank you for putting this together
Glad I could help!

Glad I could help. KM comes with a learning curve but is very useful once you wrap your head around the basics.
Great introduction to Keyboard Maestro. I'm sold.
Thanks Phillip!
Cheers Paul, great tutorial. I just purchased Keyboard Maestro and this is my crash course. Thanks again!
Thanks, glad I could help!
Great video - fantastic overview and captures the essence of Keyboard Maestro very quickly. Thanks for that!
You're welcome, glad I could help Peter!
The man, the legend, in the house!
Thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for.
Glad I could help!
Excellent, Paul!
Thanks Bret!
Is there something similar for windows?
As a long-time Mac user I'm not sure sorry. But if you Google around I'm sure you'll find something.
Great Video, I created a shortcut key to trigger my another shortcut key but forgot the first one, wait...
Glad I could help!

this is great - I only wish there was some follow-up to go more in-depth with your use cases
Thanks, I'll see what I can do.
Excellent! Thankes.
You're welcome 😀
Great video...buying maestro.
Thanks Fernando! 😀
ima say it... ima say it.............. BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH... ok now that I got this out, thanks for the video ☺
HAHAHA 😀

Hm, I'm not sure if this would be possible sorry. You could try asking in the KM community on their website.
Not sure if you've heard this before but you look like a mix of Eddie Redmayne and Benedict Cumberbatch.
Ohh and i appreciate the tutorial! Cheers!
Yep, Eddie Redmayne I've heard before. But never Benedict Cumberbatch. Thanks 😀

Great content. Just wonder how you created the "do not disturb" option

10:04 bit of a late reply, but if zoom is already front-most, is there a reason you need to activate it?
Correct but this allows me to mute Zoom even if it's not the front window.
groups- i'm playing around with the trial, but I don't see a window management folder. any idea what I'm missing here?
This is one that I created. You can create your own folders by clicking the + button at the bottom of the window.
Hey man, nice video! YOu seem to know everything about it! Why does my mouse won't click and drag? Im on Mac Os Catalina. Thanks!
Hm, I'm not sure. It's hard to say without seeing your macro. Have you tried posting in the Keyboard Maestro forum for support?

Ever get stuck with "Keyboard Maestro" How To Select A File In An "Open File" Dialog ?
Sorry, I haven't encountered this I'm afraid.

Possibly. I see there is a 'USB key device' trigger which may work but I'm not sure.
It's USB key device
Hey thanks for the video!
Is it possible to setup a Hot Key Trigger with multiple letters like "command + j + f" for example ?
I'm afraid not. You can only do one letter after the command. But you can use multiple modifier keys e.g. command + option + J

Can we use macro with sql? Like if whenever we create a macro, it's macro name and macro uuid will save to my db that I created?
Sorry, I'm not 100% sure but this would be a good question to post in the Keyboard Maestro community.
don't worry I have done this thing@@minor-co
Can you do *inline* text replacement? E.g. vv$ --> w but without having to type a space to make the text replacement execute?
For this, I'd recommend TextExpander. It's the best when it comes to text replacement.
....is there an option ,,ignore when typing text,, in keyboard maestro???? regards
Not that I know of. What are you trying to do exactly?
@@minor-co ..to be able to use some key commands only with letters....regards
First LIKE 👍
Thanks MaiKai!
When I try to make KM type a texte sometimes it skips the first letter of the text...Did you ever meet this problem? How can I fix it ? Thanks :)
If you contact me here and send me a screenshot of your Macro I can take a look: paulminors.com/contact/
..pls, is there a way to add command ,,go to marker1,, in pro tools 2021..? regards and thank u for your videos...
Possibly, if 'Go to marker 1' is a menu item that you can assign a shortcut to then yes, you could do this with Keyboard Maestro.
@@minor-co the problem is that its not a menu item...its pro tools, why be simple when it can be complicated...😕
I downloaded keyboar m from file horse. Is it safe?
Sorry I'm not sure what File Horse is. I'd recommend downloading from the official website.
didn't know Benedict Cumberbatch is tech savy
HAHAHA
