I remembered this video from three years ago and just spent 2 hours digging through the internet to find it! This video is freaking incredible and so useful!
I’d love to know your preferences using the iPad vs the Stream Deck. Do you find having the physical buttons on Stream Deck more useful sometimes (the way I prefer physical-touch-boundaries of midi controller knobs more useful than a touchscreen)? Great videos, packed with non-stop info...I love that! 👏👏👏
Possible silly question. If the track box were to move to another part of the screen would the mouse click not work since the window is now a different spot?
Sure! I recently started exploring Ableton Live and I think making macros for it could be amazing! Let me know if there are any specific features/aspects of Ableton you want me to include. Cheers!
@@BrianRivlin well, i'm after creating two very specific macros in keyboard maestro for ableton live, and taking one tutorial video and modifying that one for my use, so for now i'm kinda set, but am wondering what else one should come up with. maybe like this: you have a folder with 50 wavefile loops. and you want to open them directly into ableton live with 50 new audiotracks created on-the-fly. how would that be done? oh, and here's one: whenever you're in "your folder", and you click on the refresh-button in a plugin, you are dumped into the plugin browser, and then when you load, say, EQ8 preset default setting, you're still there, and have to maneuver back to the folder you were in. to get some sort of way to jump back to that specific folder, would be nice.
Hi! Is there a way to use Keyboard Maestro to Gainstage all selected channels (or all non-group channels) for via peak RMS to a specific decibel value such as 22, 18, 14, or 10?
Hi Brian! Thanks for the in-depth content! My potato brain is a big fan! Logic Pro's front Window is not always the same, unfortunately (12:46). Do you mind sharing a consistent Logic Pro equivalent for the inconsistent load time of plug-ins? Hit me up with a good alternative if you have some time left! Thanks in advance
great tutorial, i realized how easy it is to make a macros....but pls explain how can i make a macro in pro tools 2020....go to marker 1....2, etc....tried everything i cant do that with keyboard maestro.....regards
Hey Brian. Thanks for your videos, they are awesome! Quick (and hopefully not silly) question: do you create all your macros on Keyboard Maestro and then assign them to buttons on Lemur to finally reach Cubase? I just purchased Lemur, but all the scripting needed to send simple visibility and solo/mute messages to Cubase tracks seem super complex to someone not used to script. I’m looking for the simplest and most intuitive way to control Cubase via Lemur, and Keyboard Maestro sounded like a good option. Not sure how to work with all three together though. Best
It really depends on what you're trying to do with Lemur. For most things in Cubase, you won't need to do any scripting in Lemur. For triggering simple functions (shortcuts, Logical Editor macros, Midi CC faders and knobs, and any built-in Cubase commands) you can just follow my Lemur tutorial. I use KM to control more complex actions that require mouse movements and key presses that Cubase can't do automatically. Unless you want Lemur to interact with Cubase (showing Solo/Mute states in a button, getting current track name, read track volume, etc.) I don't think you'll need to do any scripting in Lemur.
Great. I also use a Playform X to control Midi faders physically, so I’m not touching faders and knobs through Lemur. My Lemur is basically set to navigate through my big orchestral template (show/hide midi tracks, display individual sections e.g Show only Brass and Woods), show active solo/mute buttons (I added one solo/mute button to each instrument on my Lemur template in case, for instance, I want to hear just violins and flutes) and basic controls like Expression +10/-10, Quantize ends etc. I’ll definitely get KM. In this case, I’d set a macro for Display Strings Only (let’s say Shift + S) and then send a midi cc message to Lemur assigning Shift + S to the Strings Only button, and then from Lemur to Cubase? I’m not sure how KM connects to Lemur. Thanks again man!
Otavio Santos Film seems like your adding an unnecessary extra step. If you’re using keyboard maestro, just have it trigger a menu item in Cubase, and select the menu item that triggers the Logical Editor function that shows only strings. That’s how I’m doing it :)
I see. So it’s basically the other way around, not Keyboard Maestro - Lemur - Cubase, but Lemur midi cc info triggering KM (via Allow Recording) - Cubase.
Great intro to Keyboard Maestro. I guess this is my next purchase. Definitely learned some things. I like the track coloring Logical Editor preset you created. That’s something for sure useful. I didn’t like the change between Cubase 9.5 and 10 on how you do track colors.
This is an extremely helpful video for getting familiar with KM. I'm wondering if there is a way to simplify this for my needs. I have a jog/shuttle/transport USB controller I would like to control video players with [Quicktime/VLC etc]. So pretty basic stuff. I am seeing how to start the macro but am a little confused on assigning the triggers. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thx!
Thanks Brian. Will KM except MIDI note from a MIDI controller? I would like to try and use the Akai APC Mini which has 64 front panel pads that use MID note to trigger. Alternatively I have two Computer keyboards, could I use keys from a KB and will KM know which KB I have assigned a macro? thx
Stupid question probably but has anything changed since the latest update of Cubase 10.5.2 and Keyboard Maestro 9.05? I have gone over the "Create Instrument" macro numerous times and everything works except the "move and Click" + "Insert text" to select the right instrument. The result is that an instrument is created with the right color but the instrument is always the same (or the same as the last one I created) no matter what I add in the "Insert Text" field. As far as I can see i have the exact same settings you have. 🤔 Keyboard Maestro doesn't seem to see the dialog window as the "Front Window". It's driving me nuts! 🤦♂️
No such thing as stupid questions!! I think the latest Cubase update might have shifted things a bit, because I’m seeing that my macros won’t change the inout on my audio channel macros. It’s worth making sure every mouse click in KM is hitting the right targets. Just re-adjust the position like you did initially. Let me know if that works.
@@BrianRivlin Thanks for your quick reply! 😊 I actually got it working now! I noticed I had to click and select the dialog box and THEN position the mouse for the "Move and Click" and with a different pause between the two "Returns" it's finally success! Trial and error, yes?! 😂
Nice!! Oh yeah! 99% of KM setup is trial and error. I just learned that in the new Cubase version I need to select mono/stereo BEFORE I select the input. Otherwise, it resets the input to the last value that was selected 🤷🏻♂️ Took a while to figure that out!
@@BrianRivlin Thanks a million! 🙏🏼 I am now using both Lemur and Keyboard Maestro after watching your videos. The setting up has taken a crazy amounts of time, so in order to get some music done as well I am taking it in small increments. I´ve been eying the Stream Deck as well since it seems to go well with KM but I am not sure if I need more "trouble" right now! 😂
I'll try but can't promise anything since I don't own a copy of pro tools and never used it before so I don't know its capabilities and limitations as far as shortcuts and key commands. But I'll see what I can do. Cheers!
@@nachosoteloa I tried it. The reason I decided not to use it is 1. It's not free (neither is KM but at least KM is not a subscription but a one time purchase). 2. It's too complicated and basically does the same thing. If you don't know how to script, you're very limited with SoundFlow. (IMO)
@@BrianRivlin that's true, subscription instead of one time purchase is a downside. I have no experience coding whatsoever and I've been able to create very complicated and stable macros, also support is always there, they usually answer in a few minutes.
Thank you so much Brian very useful video! Don’t have Lemur but I feel that maybe stream deck (I have a 32 buttons like you) + keyboard maestro could do the same things don’t you think ?
Christophe Martin Actually yes! I use the JLCooper MCS6. It’s totally overpriced for what it is, but super functional! It sends midi to Cubase and I made a generic remote that translates the midi it sends to zoom in/out.
