Yes sadly. Mckayla had really good lines and her bars in 2013 were marvelous (besides the form breaks;). S Her coaches just didn't know how to deal with all that talent.
Unfortunately, her coaches did a HORRIBLE job with her routine construction in this quad. Her floor routine and bars routine had unnecessary built I'm deductions. Her 3rd pass on floor and her clear-hip 2nd low-to-high bar transition caused her constant problems. Both her floor and bar routine in 2013 were perfect and much better. But her horrible routine construction relegated her to a vault specialist in 2012, even if she didn't get injured.
Is it just me or does anyone else realize she cut that double back to stay in bounds? How amazing to be able to assess where she was on the floor, adjust her snap down from the back handspring, more assessment while in the air in order to land upright without over rotating and therefore going out of bounds!!! That’s more than air sense #LoveMcKayla
Yeah. A Double Layout to not get deducted, you need to be real floaty on it (have amplitude). Otherwise, you incur like a 2 or 3 tenth deduction. Example is Shannon Miller in Atlanta she would have incurred a 5 tenth deduction today. Like, if you tear your achilles on the take-off on the DLO, then you are going to like tuck up or travel backwards out of bounds.
+Kameron Coleman yeah but mckayla generates so much power on all her passes so correct form is not a problem for her. It's so sad what happened to her :( screw her coach :/ she could have come back with a triple.
tree bear She landed on her back attempting a 3.5, she only got the triple full around so, i'm assuming that she was like "You know what? A Double Layout is an F and for me, all I got to do is don't touch my legs and open up."
+Kameron Coleman I think it was Marta or her coach that told her not to do it. She has done 3.5 many times...that was only one incident when she fell but yeah you are right that a double layout would have been safer.
McKayla is by far the most artistic gymnast and really should've done floor. I wish her toes hadn't been broken! (And for those of you saying that Aly, Jo, and Gabby are more consistant: that may be true but Mack has her 1 1/2 add she did do floor at the 2011 worlds and they were all on that team.)
If you watch her latest video, it turns out she HAD A FRACTURED ANKLE, NOT A BROKEN TOE. LARRY NASSAR LIED ABOUT IT. It’s unbelievable they even made her compete.
@@beambreaker I think she really wanted to compete herself despite the injury and nassar being the disgusting troll he is made accommodations for her. She really wanted to make the team but with an injury that bad, they shouldn't have let her compete at all so she wouldn't be injured more. Goes to show how little they cared about their athletes smh
That first pass was one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. Her twisting just gracefully arced and floated through the air. I’ve never seen anyone else do it like that
Sadly she'll probably never bring it back. Double layout is the same difficulty score, and it's effortless for her. Meanwhile the 3.5 she got a concussion during podium training for day 2 of this meet. I still don't understand why she had to do the 1.5 to the double tuck. She already had a tumbling pass with connecting elements. She could have done a double arabian - which hers is very good, so long as it's not at the end of her routine when she's probably exhausted.
Wonderful performance. I wish the toe wasn't in the way in London smh. That 3.5 twist with the form, and the sound of her running and tumbling was just stunning.
Turned out to be a FRACTURED ANKLE NOT A TOE, LARRY NASSAR LIED ABOUT IT AND THE FORCED HER TO COMPETE!! Watch her latest video, it’s absolutely SHOCKING!!!!
@@beambreaker He lied FOR her, not to her. McKayla was aware that he was lying the whole time, and he did it as a favor to her so she could stay on the team, because he knew how badly she wanted to be on it (part of the grooming process). McKayla could’ve backed out when she got injured. She wanted to stay on the team. Nobody forced her. There were alternates waiting/wishing they could take her spot if needed.
@@Laura22862 Sadly, I truly believe Nassar's motivations for lying about the injury and keeping McKayla on the team is for his own selfish reasons (which we all know what). It just coincided with McKayla's wish.
She is so beautiful and her gymnastics are so beautiful she is very underrated she an amazing all around gymnast not just amazing on vault. I hope she is healing from that monster
googled: McKayla Maroney initially broke her toe in late May, and did it again the next month. She split the bone further during training last Thursday doing a dismount on balance beam… Associated Press 2012. So much about reading emotions in facial expressions.
I don't know why McKayla wasn't used for more events in the Olympics. She's great at everything! Sure there's room for improvement, but still, she is a beautiful, well rounded gymnast. Definitely one of my favorite gymnasts - not cocky, but very confident, which is very intimidating.
I love her intensity w/o a doubt if she had more time to perfect this fx routine. We would be seeing her the fx finals. that 3 1/2 twist in the beginning was amazing. The choreography and dramatic music is right on point!
I love this routine! My favorite on the US team (well, other than Weiber's, but I don't count that because it's just for the music) It's like watching an 8 yr old do Swan Lake (a very good 8 yr old, mind you)- it's so beautiful and graceful and elegant, but it's McKayla, so it's still just automatically cute.
Don't know why they didn't change the 3rd pass to just a double back instead of having that 1.5 step-out in front of it... I know the D score would have changed if they took it out but I think it would be made up on execution because she wouldn't have to fight so hard to stay inbounds while also loosing form. Still love this routine though!
0:15 That continual twisting how she did it is almost unbelievable. I've always been athletic since childhood and i can't even comprehend how that's done. I guess it's just lots of training , training by one heck of a gifted person
it could be a look of evil but you can see its also a look of determination, she knows shes going to kill her routine right at the beginning and you can see it in her eyes. it does look kind of like a smirk, when she is actually smiling it doesnt look like that though
her ability to keep her third pass in amazes me even to this day. it literally goes completely vertical with practically no horizontal movements. it’s insane.
She's my secret pick for gold at London .. if she recovers from her injury and is in fighting shape like in worlds! She possesses poise, artistry, power, and consistency.
Holy that double tuck/back/Arabian/salto WAS AMAZING HOW DID SHE STAY IN BOUNDS. The reason Mckayla is always too close to the corner is because she runs up before while other gymnasts just hurdle and do it
Its because on floor after they do the handspring they directly start twisting which give them more time in the air, while on vault they have to block the table and do the somersault first then they start to twist....
3.5 FULL twists effortlessly when a lotta gymnasts struggle to get a triple all the round ... I feel like if they put in as much work on the other events like they did for vault SHE COULD HAVE BEEN UNSTOPPABLE
Man I miss McKayla. Especially that stunning 3.5 twist.
I wish that more Americans would do the 3.5 twist.
The judges reaction was so good
i think she was way more capable of doing more than just vault...
pasta witch yeah me too. Such a shame she was injured during the London Olympics
Yes sadly. Mckayla had really good lines and her bars in 2013 were marvelous (besides the form breaks;). S

True. Had she been coached properly in the years heading up she really could’ve given Gabby a run for her money. Maroney was extremely talented.

It was good, except she under rotated and took a huge step forward which resulted in pretty much the same deduction.
I think her vault was soooo impressive that she was overlooked as an all-arounder
I don't understand why a 3.5 twist is the same difficulty as a double layout. 3.5 looks a lot more difficult to do.
I know right. I guess you just need a lot of height on a double layout which requires lots of power, like a 3.5
Yeah. A Double Layout to not get deducted, you need to be real floaty on it (have amplitude). Otherwise, you incur like a 2 or 3 tenth deduction. She needed a side somersault and the 1.5 layout step out combo pass (C + D/E) is more valuable than just doing a random side somi (A).

I totally agree and i love IT!
The way she floats her 3.5 twist reminds me of Sui Lu's 3twist.. the way it hangs in the air after the whip n while they twist..
