In the video can snapshot, listen (with your eyes closed) at 1/4 speed, pause the instant you hear 'ah', and see his back foot rotate about 3 degrees. To me, this is not a false start. If you're calling with such a consistent rhythm that a fencer can false start without crossing the line, you're a bad referee. However, this could be the stream - because we are talking about 2-3 frames of motion.
The fencer on the left had faster feet which was enough for the ref to be convinced that she established right of way. It looked close to me too, but I think the initial jump by the fencer on the right was seen as a check while immediate step (step) lunge was seen as more of an attack. Just the way it looks to me though
For me, the fencer on the right is too slow with her lunge. It looks as if she is waiting to see if her opponent will attack and doesn't 100% commit on her lunge, although she is in the middle of the lunge. If that makes sense.

I mean I’m just a hobbyist so I’m not as passionate as these fencers but their yelling and screaming after the points is obnoxious. Especially the guy who basically ran around the whole room, it’s a gentleman’s sport, come on
I can still barely believe Yoshida came back from 9-2 down vs Homer, that bout was so nice 👌
This was so fun to watch, I live for 14-14’s!
I die for those...
I've lost a world title in a different activity by 1/10th of a point...still hurts 3 decades later....I'd rather get blown out than lose by one.
0:09 and so Mateev, satisfied with his victory, ran off into the setting sun and was never seen again...
Lmao
I feel so bad for Eli, that is not a good way to go out. :(
A fair bit of bratish, emotional incontinence but a beautiful moment of courtesy at the end.
MAJOR PROPS to Arne de Ridder. He killed it!!!
Eli didn't start early 😤😤😤

Missed Szatmári vs Iliasz
i once had a 4-1 lead in a first to 5 bout and proceeded to bottle it. Lost 4-5 *pain*
great idea for a video!
Where is Aron szilagyii haven't seen him in this tournament ? Did he played this tournament
He didn't
1:48 I think it wasn't falstart
yeah either the audio is delayed or the ref was wrong, definitely looks like he started after fence
What happened at 0:12?

I can’t tell who won any of these
The one who hits, signaled by the box with lights, the ref when shown, and points.
🇮🇹
Holy crap, I hope that ref who made that flagrantly wrong call vs Dershowitz gets suspended
@@matemindak384 yup 👍 !

@@matemindak384 No, he didn't. He went the moment he heard "allez," not before.
@@matemindak384 You don't ref in slo motion. He did NOT start before "allez," as noted by others in the thread.
