  • Skiing San Gorgonio Mountain, from the South Fork Trailhead in Southern California's San Bernardino Mountains. This was pristine wilderness before the Lake Fire devastated the forest in June 2015; now much of it is gone.

    Your videos and blog posts are truly inspirational for a BC skier who just moved to the southern part of the state for a few years. Thank you!

    Truly an amazing video... you guys are just cutting through that beautiful soft Southern California butter silk... I can tell how good it is Mount Baldy has the same thing in the spring

    Sad what happened up there in 2015, but making some of these lines is still high on my bucket list! Nice video as always.

      The terrain back there is really scenic and big. It's absolutely worth the effort.

      Sounds like crazy-low snow levels with the coming storm. It's going to be a great spring mountaineering season for CA!

      We talked about that at some length as we were slogging uphill endlessly. It would have put Mammoth out of business.

    Incredible video. I have been planning doing this for about 2 years now (multiple knee surgeries got in the way) however I am planning to do it this coming spring. Would you say May is the best month to do this? I understand the snow isn’t best however i don’t mind, I just really want to check this off the bucket list :) thanks in advance

    This video is also great. Thanks for this. Ski conditions look great at the top. How long the hike in, and how long until you had to skin up? I know hiking alone is a very big day.
    I might try on Memorial Day weekend.

      It's a long way back there. I think it took us about 3 hours to get to snow and then probably another 3 hours to the summit. Skiing was good above 10K feet.

    Did you guys do this trip in a day or have to camp overnight?

    Do you have any advice for someone wanting to get into backcountry for the first time?

    • @AndyLewicky
      @AndyLewicky  4 года назад +1

      Yes: my advice right now is stay home. It is the smartest, safest thing to do. When things get back to normal, look for local guide companies that offer backcountry skiing courses. This will introduce you to the gear and how to use it, and it will also put you in touch with prospective partners in your area. If you are in SoCal, do check out the SMS (Sierra Club Ski Mountaineer's Section) which mentors and connects backcountry skiers.

    What is the most effective route as far as longest possible line to ski?

    • @AndyLewicky
      @AndyLewicky  4 года назад

      The approach via the South Fork Trail probably gets you the longest possible ski descent under normal conditions.
