Will everyone stop conflating Abel with The Weeknd! The Weeknd is a made up fictional character, and with this new album and these new videos it's more clear than ever that he's ACTING. The entire album with the short film and other visuals is something to cherish. This Has a feeling that no other album has given me. This guy is a living legend and will go down as one of the absolute best. His music is timeless. This is one of those albums that will bring you back to a very specific point in your life and you’ll never forget it. I’ll look back on this album years from now and remember the feeling it gave me.
Marcus Herbold bro that’s facts the only other album that makes me feel that way is astroworld but low key this is a more perfected sound so it’s prob a better album. Def should win the Grammy this year
This album is beyond anything Abel’s put out. Not only did he deliver arguably his best yet, but he accompanied it with some surrealist art that displays the despair and madness of having to deal with fame being an aspect of your life that you can’t escape. Only for the high to end and come to the realization of who you’ve become with the people you keep in your personal circle. Simply amazing, I’m praying he won’t get snubbed at the Grammys like many artists have.
Honestly, this is his MOST cohesive project to date. Every lyric conveys a powerful theme of love and regret, a fight with himself and a dire need to change the man his love life, his career and his past have lead him to become.
The silent scream gave me goosebumps. The fact that he tries so hard to let it out but is silenced by the white noise around him is just wow. He’s such an amazing artist musically visually and is just an amazing storyteller.
"The Japanese say you have three faces. The first face, you show to the world. The second face, you show to your close friends and your family. The third face, you never show anyone. It is the truest reflection of who you are."

It breaks my heart to see him like this. I know he's acting, but I feel like this is how he truly feels right now. I think everyone, not even artist, can kinda relate to this, not the killing and the fuckin drug trips of course. Having to put on a smile for people, and then letting all ur inner demons and depression come back to you... It fuckin sucks, but it ain't the end of the world. Someone loves you, Iam sure of that
It reminds me some of the lyrics in Starboy. "Every day a nigga try to test me Every day a nigga tryna end me " And I can see there is alot of Joker thing in his MVs Maybe he had a past similar to Joker Im just saying maybe..😬
Oh, the fucking drug trips too, brother. Drugs can contribute to celebrities' anxiety and depression and loneliness and instability so much. It just adds a whole other level of mental confusion that can tear down the barrier between fake and reality.
It is difficult for a person to tell others what he feels , and I am sure that he does not tell anyone what he feels , but he shows them through the videos

I feel like when he puts on the sunglasses it’s his display of being calm, unbothered and heartless since that’s what he feels like he needs to portray as a celebrity. But as soon as the lights go out and he’s off stage like he is in the beginning that’s when his facade of his “celebrity status” comes down and he’s left with facing just himself, the loneliness of it all and his sadness.
The broken nose signifies getting hit with heartbreak. He's a celebrity, so even though he got hurt, he still needs to go out in public with a big smile on his face. When its After Hours tho, and he's alone, he doesn't do so well. When he puts on the glasses and gloves he is going back his old way (drugs, big spending, ect). The sliding relates to him spiraling out of control. This behavior hurts others and leads to even more tragedy (Elevator scene).
The light flickering effect and the clicking that goes along with it literally encapsulates what it feels like to trip on shrooms or acid which ties in to his Heartless video perfectly.
This man is trying to warn us all of the fake evilness he is surrounded by. I praise him for being this bold. Weeknd stay strong buddy!! We know what you are dealing with!!
@@isaiahlevi5287 I've been noticing a lot of things that are too frighteningly close to Michael. Obviously his singing, dancing, fashion sense, and his mannerisms are all very similar to him overall. Much like you stated the various forms of symbolisms used in his "short films". Remember who else called his videos "short films"? I am going to watch the "Starboy" short film now that you brought it up. Fully convinced he is Michael in an elaborate disguise or Michael is writing music/lyrics, filming, and speaking to us through Abel without exposing himself.
The way I read it, 0:00 is The Weeknd performing on stage like we’re used to, he accepts the cheers and congratulations. Then the moment he leave the stage that special feeling starts wasting away because it was never real. 1:12 As he re-enters the regular world of non celebrity, he feels the pain he doesn’t feel on stage, and hears his own songs but feels disassociated from them. 3:19 He accepts the pain and enters the After Hours at 3:41 where he’s free and in control. but over the course of the journey we learn that’s not true either. I’m being dramatic
Ellis that’s what I was assuming, a lot of male artist are starting to get into inventing drastically different eras than their previous eras. Like how female artist change their clothes and invent a new personality every album (creating an era). Artist like Jaden Smith (erys and syre) and Tyler the Creator (whatever his blonde wig represents) and Asap Rocky (babushka boi). The Weeknd is doing the same with this signature red blazer, bruises, and shades. There’s a chance he’s also releasing inner demons but mostly he’s just assimilating to a trend that’s been apart of music forever.
Michael Kelly exactly but people do apparently not understand this is a character? hes not actually being dragged through underground by a demon which leads to him making kissland style music again as he actually killed a couple in an elevator😂i thought everyone was aware it was a character tbh

*He's so broken u can tell man I adore him so much the way he expresses himself, his art, his music is just so unique. Currently I'm not at my best and just from seeing this I feel like I can relate to my favorite artist and I'm not the only one who feels exactly this way.*
Tina Lopez I can feel that trilogy spoke to me back in 2012 so I’ll never knock someone feeling it like I did shiiii esp Abel 🖤 feel better tho hard times don’t last!
Idk why, but I have a feeling the glasses play a part in his “fucked up reality”. Notice how throughout the video Abel is displayed as alone, sad, and hurt. But once he puts the glasses on, everything rapidly changes and he seemingly loses all emotion and pain he previously had. Back to being “Heartless”.
This video gives the “Blinding Lights” and “Heartless” videos a whole meaning now. And I’ll explain why. This will only take a moment, okay? In this video, after experiencing addiction and feeling depressed, LONELY, heartbroken, and in anguish, sorrow, and despair from the negative aspects if having fame or being a celebrity, it takes a toll on Abel’s soul and it sends him to a dark place. Notice as he keeps walking, he eventually gets more emotional and starts crying for help, but his shouting and screaming is silent. That symbolizes that when he tries to call for help, no one can hear him and no one can tell that he’s suffering. Notice as we get the end of the video, there is a shining red light from above that shines on Abel(the “Blinding Lights”) and his eyes become white as he takes off his shades. That symbolizes Abel succumbing to the darkness and letting it take over him as it enters inside. Abel sliding across the floor and spiraling out of control symbolizes the darkness(maybe a demon) dragging him to his personal Hell and gaining control of his soul. That’s why at the end of the video, he kills the two people that entered the elevator because his recklessness turned him into a monster, and he’s been possessed. In the “Blinding Lights” and “Heartless” videos, we see him committing sin after sin after sin in Las Vegas, also known as SIN CITY. During the scene in the “Blinding Lights” video, where is running out of the casino and into the streets and he begins dancing with a big bloody smile on his face. That could symbolize that this NEW, EVIL Abel is possibly running away from a murder scene that he just committed, where he kills the two men who attacked him before. Him smiling at the climax of the video could mean that he’s far from done committing more sins. Edit: Thanks for all the likes! I DO know NOW that the woman wasn’t killed, due to the “In Your Eyes” video.
the burning ache of being surrounded by absolutely Nothing and no one , but at the same time being crowded. The menacing haunt of past memories and expectations others place on one person to be this and that to look this way and sound like that . The identity of oneself hiding in a corner dying and a emerging character of this and that from peoples expectations. silence it all violently.... silence it all
I cannot WAIT to hear whatever song is playing at 2:00 when the whole album drops. Heartless was a banger, I fell in love with Blinding Lights when I first heard it, but whatever song is playing there, I think that might be one of my favorites already, and the fact that it was just a little snippet is crazy.
I don't know if anyone felt the same way watching this - but when I was at my lowest, in the midst of my depression, I'd go for these kinds of walks in the middle of the night and felt such a fear of having to go home. To go back and be stuck in that happy persona - I get this feeling from watching this short film. Thank you for making this.
Omg thank you for perfectly describing the phase I’m going through cause it’s literally the same for me. I never was really alone in my life and now that I discovered that true feeling of loneliness…and it might sound crazy after all but I really enjoy loneliness just for the peacefulness it offers it’s almost addictive tbf.
so fucking same. im glad that i was able to watch this during my darkest hours. i was okay being by myself and hating soo many ppl. watching this helped me in some way. i hope you got over with whatever youve been to.
This feels like a key piece to a puzzle he's putting together. Depending on what songs will get a video, it seems as though he's using the short as something of a vehicle.
This is probably the best time in recent times. The Weeknd did this in the middle of a pandemic, which is even crazier. he is the best artist of our generation.
can I just say that I am so incredibly proud of how far he’s come? this is an absolute masterpiece. I cannot wait for this album to drop, it’s going to be mind-blowing, a different side of Abel we haven’t heard. I’m calling it right now, this is going to be album of the decade.
This guy is something else! For 5 minutes I felt like I was watching a mix between a Michael Jackson video, the movie Casino, and The Wall... How about Blinding lights: the movie?
I remember watching this. And when you dropped the album After Hours. somehow the album dropped at a time where life seemed so weird and so new and so unfamiliar. there was something magic about this album and it will always have its own space in my heart. It helped me get through one of the weirdest and hardest years of my life and every lyric, every chord, every harmony resonated with my emotions. Thank you Abel, for being the most influential musician I have ever listened to. See you at dawn
Lil Tee not heartbroken. It’s way deeper than that. He is being controlled by elites and he in under mk ultra like all celebrities. U think he decided one day that he wanted to shoot this? Don’t be fooled. The top powerful rich old men control these people, they are literal puppets and there’s no way out because mk ultra fractures the mind and creates multiple personalities, demon possession, and dissociative identity disorder (the worst).
Matthew Verjan Nice conspiracy but you are making all this head canon shit up and spreading it like hysteria. Sure there’s corruption but on that degree? Everyone would be doing it. 🙄
I’m Tired this is no conspiracy. These people are all under the control of satan and he loves to shove it right in everyone’s face because he knows how blind they are to what’s really going on. People would rather just jump to call it a “conspiracy” and continue on with their life than to actually look into it for themselves. Demon possession is more real than we could ever fully comprehend and this man known as The Weeknd probably lives in a constant state of torture outside of when he is performing
My interpretation is: After the performance he begins feeling lonely again. The way he restlessly moves his hands and mouth before being dragged across the subway floor looks like he was craving drugs. he is being pulled back to his old ways of drugs and womanizing. I bet if the door opens to the elevator u will see Abel walking away w the girl.
*POSSIBLE VIDEO EXPLANATION* the whole video has many meanings. At the beggining he's trying to act like he's okay, when in front of a crowd, he tries to act like he's happy. (The influence from the Joker movie: "put on a happy face"). After, when the show has ended, he is seen crying amd acting completely different. Afterwards, he's trying to get faded with the drugs and everything his low life contains (at 3:40 , he puts on his glasses and at 3:44 we see the same psychedelic visuals as in heartless mv, which can be described as the side effects of drugs). He then goes crazy and something leads him to the metro station. I personally believe that the glasses thing is a metaphor, showing how he's trying to get away from his sadness and escape reality with drugs, parties and all the sins shown at the heartless mv, at Las Vegas. That's all because he is depressed after the breakdown. He doesnt want to feel the pain. Last, at the end of the video, he's shown getting in an elevator with a couple and afterwards he kills them. If u listen they say that they are going to a weeknd concert and that it will be fun, but why does he kill them? i dont really understand this but its also a sign of the mania and thoughts that come with all the live hes living (drugs, partying etc)? idk. After he's put on his glasses, he's not crying anymore. He feels heartless and strong, and maybe that's why he kills the people. The murder might be a metaphor about killing his "sensitive" self, losing his mind, becoming heartless (especially when on drugs). But after all, he will still come down, he won't be high forever. He will have to face his problems. That's what I think about the video. Share your thoughts and tell me if you think I made a mistake. edit: thank you so much for the kind comments below, u guys are so nice :)
I love how the weekend lives the character his portraying in not just this album but even the previous ones it shows just how much he puts into his work and his an inspiration for sure
I wanna see a movie of his life. Not just because I'm a fan but also because he finally deserves to express all his hidden feelings.

Yessir!! So true, this album is such a masterpiece and is so good definitely will go down in history

POPE 🏆 666

The broken nose signifies getting hit with heartbreak. He's a celebrity, so even though he got hurt, he still needs to go out in public with a big smile on his face. When its After Hours tho, and he's alone, he doesn't do so well. When he puts on the glasses and gloves he is going back his old way (drugs, big spending, ect). The sliding relates to him spiraling out of control. This behavior hurts others and leads to even more tragedy (Elevator scene).

Thanos ruclips.net/video/rzpAQrsqJXM/видео.html
He loses control because of something he had with him since the beginning, he’d just chose not to put it on. Crazy
😭
Dude just look up what rose colored glasses means.
@Lil Blaisy no it ain't ur trash

Matthew Verjan it ain’t that deep lmao
I’m Tired this is no conspiracy. These people are all under the control of satan and he loves to shove it right in everyone’s face because he knows how blind they are to what’s really going on.
