Hi Ken. Thanks for providing us with an awesome channel. What I like most about your channel is that you come forth the way you really are. Its not a rehearsed show. It is a let's record it as it happens show. I like that. Thank you.
Well Darth Vader didnt let me down! I was out of town or would have posted a video. Fantastic two pass shave! Aggressive yet mild and way smooth. Thanks Ken.
Thanks for the review Ken, I just received my black Bakelite Slant and can't wait to try it out. Voskhod is my favorite blade so I will be using one as well.
I was lucky that the education I am a teacher of chemistry at school. I managed to read the name on the parts.) Impressive. As far as I know this is kind of Bakelite - resin that hardens when it becomes harder than plastic and more flexible.) A great idea to give the name of the razor. In my opinion it's great solution. Paul bought a black version of this razor. And Rich, too)) And Leonard Ybarra bought like yours -. White color. Nice to see you again with good news.) Soon you will be the first of thousands of subscribers, will celebrate together.))
Great shave Ken, that's really nice of you to do a giveaway...and a black beauty too... wow...I must check shipping to Ireland for the storm trooper, looks great.
Thanks Red. It's funny that 4 RUclips reviews have come out almost at the same time in that razor..lol Shaving with Rich, me, Leonard Ybarra and PaulHFilms. And we all agreed it was a great shave👍👍
Nice video. I usually don't seem to hear about razors like this until long after they're released, but this time I had actually heard of the product. Am glad you had a good experience with it.
Awesome vid brother. Keep up the good work. I ordered my dorco starter pack after watching your vids. Used it for the first time and loved it. Thanks again
I just ordered the "Stormtrooper", yesterday. I already own a Merkur slant, but, I was curious to try out a slant WITH an open comb. This video is greatly appreciated. You have a new subscriber.
Thanks for the info on the alum block Ken~ I was thinking on ordering one and now I can rest assured that it's fine to use if I follow the directions! Love your videos, keep up the great work!
Another great vid Ken, you may be interested to know, that Newcastle United are doing well, won 6 nil away from home, that would of put a smile on you're dads face, love the vids, so hi and goodbye from the UK.
Got back to the old school shaving nearly one year ago...naturally, as part of the current culture, shaving channel on youtube are a must...I have a short list on which I focus, and I have to say Ken, that for me, you are doing the best natural presentations....looking forward to seeing your upcoming reviews... one thing though, as someone that lives in Europe, would really appreciate having your comments over experience also with European products... thanks..
Thank you very much. I have to say that my favorite brushes are from Europe.. I will try to get more videos out with them as well as other items. Thank you very much for watching👍👍
I've never shaved with an open comb or a slant razor. I had planned of purchasing both in the future. This combined both in one very cheap purchase. Thanks for showing me this Ken. Bam! Ordered one this morning. The fact that it's Bakelite makes it even more cool. Looking forward to giving this one a run! It's new and retro all in one shot. haha!
great shave Ken! I've been wanting to pick one of those little guys up, looks like a fun razor. been looking for a black Beauty at the local antique stores for a while now. whoever wins that is getting a sweet razor. keep up the good shaves!
Great video. I'm really thinking about adding one of these razors to my collection. It'd be my 1st slant razor. I really want one since that's what they made razors out of during WWII to conserve metal for the war effort. This video got me subscribed to you as well. Good job again sir.
Gr8 shave! Fantastic that people appreciate the time and effort you put in to making these gr8 videos! A very generous gesture, the giveaway! Hope you make the 1000 soon! ;-)
another great review! i have ordered the bakelite (oxblood) a few days ago from phoenix (love all their models so far) . as far as the alum block i use for deoderant and it really works--too old to worry about the aluminum problem--i think the antiperspirent using aluminum chlorhydrate is nasty and won't use that......
Re: Potassium Alum. The skin can't absorb molecules larger than 450 g/mol and potassium alum is 474.3884 g/mol. It also breaks down in water into negative ions which make it very hard to absorb. The harmful aluminium chloride in antiperspirants is 133.34 g/mol in water and has positively charged ions. Hope that's reassuring for everyone. :)
Luke and Ken, I have two shave Nation alum blocks one I use for after shaving and one I use as a deodorant. I've been doing this for several years now and it works great for me. much more economical and ecology friendly as well.
hi ken , just got some feather blades - ill be using the first "trial" in my att slant , never used feathers before . That razor seems very light.... not sure if its the way i would go , anyway looks like your be using samples in the future and saving some doe in the process , good luck to you mate - and take care .
Hey Ken, I just got mine in the mail today and I noticed that loading up a blade left an unusual amount of overhang on the sides? Is it just how the razor was designed? #dougsmythe
Which brand of alum are you using? Seems like there are a lot of reviews saying that most alum blocks are basically becoming big styptic pencils made of compressed powder instead of real rock crystal.
Well it shaved me as well as my Merkur 37 does with the exception of it being extremely light. I had to readjust the pressure that I use. Now I do like my Merkur better but the shave was very close 👍
Nice video but you said this isn't plastic in your video but Bakelite is plastic Bakelite (/ˈbeɪkəlaɪt/ BAY-kə-lyt, sometimes spelled Baekelite), or polyoxybenzylmethylenglycolanhydride, is an early plastic. It is a thermosetting phenol formaldehyde resin, formed from a condensation reaction of phenol with formaldehyde. (So it's Plastic) just my two cents which is not worth much
Great review Ken, and congratulations on the success of your channel, you deserve it, your videos are really good 😌👏 I'm one of your happy subscribers from the UK where we spell aluminium with 2 i's, add u's everywhere (e.g. favourite), and walk on a pavement rather than a sidewalk, but otherwise we're not very different.. Never tried a slant, or an open comb, or a Bakelite razor, so you're 3 up on me in 1 shave 😂👏
Ha ha 😂👏 I know you say about your English heritage, but I didn't know you were born here. When I go back to work on Monday, I'll add some extra u's just for you 😌👍
You might want to check this image comparison: i.imgur.com/jadEg0A.jpg Then check this site and the bulk price: www.alibaba.com/product-detail/0817-2016-China-High-Quality-Custom_60516590501.html They make them in "black, yellow, gray, etc."
yeah but that's a bulk price. i don't need 1000 razors and i don't have $80+ to buy them all. i swear, there are some individuals who treat artisans as if they need to be everyone's best friend. they run a business and they need to mark up their prices to make money. just like i can go to any wholesale retailer and buy soda in bulk for 4 cents a pop, but nobody's giving grocery stores hell for selling their soda in smaller quantities for nearly a dollar a can. chill out.
and i don't know what you're implying, but just because there's a wholesale retailer offering a similar product in bulk does not mean anyone got ripped off. that's a fallacy. unless you want 1,000 razors.
Its a trick Ken but you need to get used to flipping around the razor more, so you use from both sides of the blade more even ware & tear. Just notice you tread DEs like SEs... Just something you notice when you watch back your videos. Oh Alum is SALT and not aluminium and theirs no proof that aluminium is a problem on the skin and its the main ingredient in the propellant from deodorant. The alum is rich with a range of natural minerals, necessary to good health and its the iteration of these from our daily life that has had negative effect on health in the modern era. Scientist discovered long ago how important iodine is to good health so they added it to salt but they have removed that and in doing so dropped the US IQ about 20 points in 2 generations! The joke in 1984 is government departments are named after the exact opposite to what they actually do, so dept for war is call peace ect... So you can guess what the health department is up to!
Thanks Steve. One of the subscribers told me to be careful and I actually was in for a checkup and asked. You are right, the fox said no problem. And I tell you that styptic pen worked awesome too👍👍

Awesome. That’s what my dad did when I was really young too👍👍👍👍

Thanks Kenneth. Great name by the way...lol 👍👍👍Ken
I just ordered the "Stormtrooper", yesterday. I already own a Merkur slant, but, I was curious to try out a slant WITH an open comb. This video is greatly appreciated. You have a new subscriber.
I have been getting super great shaves with my PPA blue bake light slant razor and an Astra blade.
💈👍👍👍
Thanks for the info on the alum block Ken~ I was thinking on ordering one and now I can rest assured that it's fine to use if I follow the directions! Love your videos, keep up the great work!
Thank you George. That was what my doctor said👍👍
Another great vid Ken, you may be interested to know, that Newcastle United are doing well, won 6 nil away from home, that would of put a smile on you're dads face, love the vids, so hi and goodbye from the UK.
Hopefully they get back in the premier league next season👍👍Thanks for the update and thanks for watching.

Bryan Wickel What color did you end up buying? Both are really cool, very light, but cool👍
I liked the Black one. Always a Darth Vader fan. :)
Bryan Wickel "If you only knew the power ...of the Dark Side" great razor, great character👍👍
Haha! Thanks for the videos Ken! I need to get my butt in gear and do a few myself.
Bryan Wickel absolutely👍👍
great shave Ken!

Good job again sir.

great shave, funny little light weight
Thanks Heino👍👍
another great review! i have ordered the bakelite (oxblood) a few days ago from phoenix (love all their models so far) . as far as the alum block i use for deoderant and it really works--too old to worry about the aluminum problem--i think the antiperspirent using aluminum chlorhydrate is nasty and won't use that......
Greg Walker Me ether. The aluminum can’t be good for you👍💈
Re: Potassium Alum. The skin can't absorb molecules larger than 450 g/mol and potassium alum is 474.3884 g/mol. It also breaks down in water into negative ions which make it very hard to absorb. Luke Shepherd since I've had Kidney issues, I just stopped using antiperspirants with aluminum. Thank you so much for the info👍👍
Luke and Ken, I have two shave Nation alum blocks one I use for after shaving and one I use as a deodorant. I've been doing this for several years now and it works great for me. much more economical and ecology friendly as well.
Thanks for an educated answer!
It's nice of you to do a giveaway Ken,the winner will be very lucky.Great video too.
Thank you. Hope your weekend is going good. Hopefully great weather👍👍
Congrats on the groovy neck shave with this razor. Haha. It's the little things in life.....!

Second Kind Of Cool Thank you👍👍
hi ken , just got some feather blades - ill be using the first "trial" in my att slant , never used feathers before . That razor seems very light.... not sure if its the way i would go , anyway looks like your be using samples in the future and saving some doe in the process , good luck to you mate - and take care .
Be real careful with the Feathers they are really sharp👍😀
Great !! walking to the thousand !!
Thanks👍👍
great video
Tampa Shave Company Thank you👍👍
Hey Ken, I just got mine in the mail today and I noticed that loading up a blade left an unusual amount of overhang on the sides? Is it just how the razor was designed? #dougsmythe
Tyler Beadle-Follis I think it was designed that way. How did it do?
Besides the PAA starling V2 it's about the closest shave I've had!
Tyler Beadle-Follis it’s so light too👍👍
@@kensurfs I think the trade off is that, since it is so light you feel the blade more than you would on a middle of the road razor.
Which brand of alum are you using? Seems like there are a lot of reviews saying that most alum blocks are basically becoming big styptic pencils made of compressed powder instead of real rock crystal.
Jeremy C I believe it’s the EJ
Hey Ken, still debating on whether to buy the storm trooper. is it as mild as a jagger de89?
Red Damo I have not yet tried the De89 but it did as good a job as the Merkur 37. It is very light which is cool.
I haven’t taken a Chem class in roughly 9 years but I think the correct way to separate the word would be poly-oxy-benzl-methylen-glycolan-hydride.
👍👍
What other slants can you compare this one to?
Well it shaved me as well as my Merkur 37 does with the exception of it being extremely light. I had to readjust the pressure that I use. Now I do like my Merkur better but the shave was very close 👍
Dam you Ken. I was just looking for tips. How the hell did I end up buying another razor?!
Lol👍👍
Hey Ken, How aggressive or mild is this razor?
sixyears I was pretty good, not aggressive at all👍💈
cool i have the merkur bakelite 45c and it kinda aggressive. I am looking for something that i can maybe used for travel.
I got the Bakelite in a newer color, Ox Blood...might match the blood letting lol
Jill Snoddon Lol 👍💈
Nice video but you said this isn't plastic in your video but Bakelite is plastic Bakelite (/ˈbeɪkəlaɪt/ BAY-kə-lyt, sometimes spelled Baekelite), or polyoxybenzylmethylenglycolanhydride, is an early plastic. Awesome thanks Donald.👍👍
I changed the description to early plastic...lol

I'm one of your happy subscribers from the UK where we spell aluminium with 2 i's, add u's everywhere (e.g. favourite), and walk on a pavement rather than a sidewalk, but otherwise we're not very different..
Never tried a slant, or an open comb, or a Bakelite razor, so you're 3 up on me in 1 shave 😂👏
Thanks Dave. I was 8 when I moved from the U.K. and I used to get corrected for my British spelling. Tyre instead of tire out here...lol
Ha ha 😂👏 I know you say about your English heritage, but I didn't know you were born here. When I go back to work on Monday, I'll add some extra u's just for you 😌👍
Yeah, I was born in Newcastle and came here in December 1969. Lost the Geordie accent though.👍
So has my mum, and she still lives here. It would be brilliant if you tried to do a video in a Geordie accent 🙄
I think my Bakelite from Phoenix is defective. Great shave
Cincy Shaves They should give you an exchange. Did you contact them?
I have not.perhaps I will soon
great vid ! I just watched PaulHFilms shaving with the black one . Nice razor :) Greetings
Thanks very much for watching and commenting. I appreciate it 👍👍
Sorry about posting the same comment 50 times. Had a computer glitch.

Plus he probably had to pay import tax, pay for the boxes, repackage, advertise, etc. They do Shave great though. No complaints here👍👍
Ken your not far from a 1000 When I subscribe to your channel you had like 78 subscribers. By the looks of it that was 50 brushes ago..
Lol... that's awesome👍👍👍

I tossed mine out after 1 shave. Too much of a headache and time waster.
webfire32 This one worked but it’s pretty lightweight. I prefer the heavier metal razors👍💈🍾
agreed, it worked but not worth the trouble.
