    18. Marriage to Khadijah رضي الله عنها
[00:01] Role models for our sisters to follow
Prophet ﷺ is around 24 years of age when Abu Talib asks him to get involved in trade as mentioned in the last dars (lecture). Abu Talib had some financial hardships not because Abu Talib wasn't capable but on the contrary he was from the best of lineage, from a very strong family but he was somebody who would give a lot, helping the needy a lot, did a lot for Quraysh. So even though he was in the place of leadership, financially he was struggling. So Rasulullah ﷺ went on the trade to Shaam as mentioned in the last dars taking the caravan for Khadija RA. The news of his character now gets back to Khadija RA through her slave Maysarah. We look at a time where Rasulullah ﷺ is around 24-25 years of age. This is the time when people usually want to get married. Everything that Prophet ﷺ would earn, he would give to Abu Talib to distribute amongst his family and so on, she he didn't have the financial means for it. But Khadija RA had already been married twice and earlier husbands had passed. Women at that time would get married very early. She was not looking to get married. What we know from the authentic narrations is that many people used to send proposals to her, one because she was known for her noble character, and she was one of the greatest personalities in the history of mankind. When we discuss role models for our sister to follow, people subhanAllah bring up the worst of examples and glorify them to to follow, personalities like Malala. People are proud of this but for what? For women saying that they don't need to get married and what's the point of nikkah etc. Do you really want your daughters to grow up to be like this? It's all plots. If you want to talk about someone who did a lot for Islamic education and women, then why not bring up women like Farhat Hashmi and many others out there who have started institutions for women to teach them about Islam in the light of Quran and Sunnah. Nobody wants to give her a Nobel Prize. It's only when they want to bring and attack the foundation of Islam, such as foundation of marriage and so on that's when you get the Nobel Prize. Why not talk about Aisha RA, how she memorized so many Ahadiths and was a scholarette in this and Fiqh etc. No one wants to talk about that.
    [04:32] Khadija RA's character
Khadija RA was from the greatest human beings and no doubt that from the greatest women that ever existed in the history of mankind, from the best of them. Many people don't even know about her. Her Kunya is Umm al Qasim, and also known has Umm al Mu'minun because she was the wife of the Prophet ﷺ. Her name is Khadija bin Khuwaylid Ibn Asad, Ibn Abd al-Uzza, Ibn Qussay, Ibn Qilab Al Qurayshia Al Asadiyya. No doubt that she was from the most sought after women from Quraysh. She was rich, she had good lineage, she was most honorable, she was honest, she was known for her beauty and eloquence. The richest and most powerful men from Quraysh would send her proposals but she would turn them down. At this point she was not interested in marriage. But when she heard about Prophet ﷺ's akhlaq from her own trusted servant Maysarah who travelled with him, who saw his good mannerism and the honesty, she wanted to propose to the Prophet ﷺ. From this, we will take many ahkam even though this is before nubuwwah but these were confirmed by the Prophet ﷺ even after Islam.
[06:18] Khadija RA was NOT 40 years old at the time of her marriage to Prophet ﷺ
[Disclaimer: I hope I understood it correctly. Kindly leave a comment if you feel like I have made a mistake in understanding this.]
Age of Khadija RA at the time of marriage is calculated based on the age of her death. As it is known from Ibn Hajar, Ibn Khathir and others that the wahi (revelation) began 15 years after Prophet ﷺ and Khadjia RA had been married and Khadija RA died 10 years after the wahi. So for example if we take some reports that mention that Khadija RA died at the age of 60, she would have been 50 at the time of wahi, and 35 at the time of their marriage. What's most popular amongst us today is that Khadija RA was 40 when she got married to Prophet ﷺ. This is based on the narration that has her dying at age 65, which would make her 55 year old at the time of wahi and 40 years old at the time of her marriage to Prophet ﷺ. The only report that mentions her dying at age 65 is by Al-Waqidi. Al-Waqidi is Muhammad Ibn Omar Ibn Waqid al-Aslami and Imam Ahmad said about him that he was a liar in Hadith. Every major scholar in Hadith including Imam Al Muslim said about him that not only he was weak in Hadith but he was totally unacceptable. He has a very early book called Kitab al-Tarikh wa al-Maghazi and many people reference it to get an idea but can we rely upon him as a sole Hadith narrator? No way! So it means that all those reports that mention Khadija RA to be age 40 at the time of her marriage go through only one source and that source is totally rejected in Hadith, that source is Al Waqidi.
[10:28] Khadija RA's actual age at marriage
Age 25: the most authentic narration per Ibn Kathir in Bidaya wan Nihaya. Al-Bayhaqi (Dalail an-Nubuwwah) agrees with him. So she was 25 years of age at marriage, which would put her at 50 years of age at death.
Age 28: mentioned by Al Hakim from Ibn Abbas, mentioned by Ibn Ishaq, Ibn Taymiyyah, mentioned by Ibn Asakir as mentioned from Ibn Abbas RA sanadan.
So from all of the above, we take it that Khadija RA was between the ages of 25 to 28 when she married Prophet ﷺ. More recently there are also some scholars who have done great work in this and agree with the above, these include scholars such as Dr. Akram Al-Umari and others.
[12:50] Textually the above evidences are enough for us. But Shaykh Uthman mentions another evidence which is not textual. Khadija RA at minimum had six children from Prophet ﷺ. Some of them at minimum had a year and a half to two years between them. So if she was married at age 40, she would be well past into her 50's if she had 6 children. Although it is not impossible but it is unusual to have children past 40 and if this were the case, this would've been documented because it would've been unusual for the Arab society at the time.

[14:11] The virtues of Khadija RA
One of the earlier scholars of tareekh (history) Ibn Hisham in his seerah said about Khadija RA that she was someone hazima, meaning someone strong willed. This is important to mention because Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى chose certain people for certain situations. We sometimes look at the sahaba who Allah blessed to be in that position such as Abu Bakr, Omar, Uthman, Ali RA on all of them and then question why not us? To answer this, we need to look at the qualities they possessed to be able to carry out certain things such as sacrifice themselves for the cause of Islam to be given that status. Similarly, Khadija RA was a strong willed woman. When she stood behind Prophet ﷺ and backed him, she did not falter. Just imagine she was wealthy and was well respected, and her husband now claimed to be a Prophet. Forget about this amazing claim but look at things today such as being a wife of a da'i (inviter/caller). It takes a strong woman to be his wife due to the hardships they go through for him being involved da'wah, people attacking etc. So it takes a lot of courage. So imagine that not only this but Khadija RA was spending her own wealth for this cause. She also sacrificed her health, she died of hardships after the exile but never did she ever complain. There has never been a single narration where she complained to Prophet ﷺ about losing her wealth, her health etc due to his Prophethood. Instead, she gave him hope, confidence, she supported/encouraged him, she was such a strong woman than even though she spent her own health and wealth, she never faltered, she never complained, she never looked down on why such was the case. She was known to be a woman of great character even before Islam. They said about her "Sharifa", which means the honored one, distinguished. She never made zina even in the time when Arab society accepted it, she never even entertained any thoughts like this. They said about her "Labiba", which means intelligent, someone very eloquent in her speech, clear in her words, good in the advise she would give. She had an impressive nasab (race), she was very honorable. We talk about nasab a lot in tareekh (history) not because nasab is everything because look at the case of Julaybib RA who had no nasab but he was from the best of people and most respected. It is just interesting because when we look at he household and the environment people grown up in, many people from honorable households are given a good tarbiya (upbringing).
[18:27] Khadija RA expresses interest in marrying Prophet ﷺ
Khadija RA was very wealthy herself and was not in need of a husband. She turned down all the proposals coming from the best, from the most noble and the richest of Quraysh. But now when Maysarah tells her about RasulAllah ﷺ, she herself sees something amazing. When RasulAllah ﷺ was coming back with Maysarah and her caravan, she could see the caravan coming from her house as it's not like they had tall buildings obscuring their view. In an authentic narration she said to Maysarah, "I saw beings (later on we know them to be malaika- angles) covering the caravan only on top of the Prophet ﷺ." She asked Maysharah what that was. He said, "Wallahi, I saw the same even though the others couldn't see, and some others saw the same and reported it to me." When Khadjia RA heard about his great akhlaq (ethics/manners), saw that her trade was blessed, his dealings were honest, she told Maysarah she wanted to propose to him. She talked to her servant named Nafeesa bint Munayya who told her, "I will take care of it" because it was not in the adab (manners) of the Arab (and Shariah) to go up to a man and tell him that you wanted to marry him. Usually a man's family would approach the family of the woman. Nafeesa was very intelligent. She went to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Why don't you get married?" Prophet ﷺ said he would love to get married but how could he because he wasn't financially stable. Nafeesa told him, "What if I told you to marry the most noble of women, the most beautiful, the most eloquent, the most honest of women, a wealthy woman." Prophet ﷺ asked why would such a woman marry him, so Nafeesa said, "Why don't you marry Khadija RA?" Rasulullah ﷺ said, "Would Khadija marry me?" Just look at the intelligence of Nafeesa, she said, "Don't worry about it, I will take care of it", just like she had told Khadija RA.
[23:30] Rasulullah ﷺ and Khadija RA get married and his sunnah
Rasulullah ﷺ goes and talks to his elders, which is the sunnah way of marriage. His uncles including Hamza RA and Abu Talib go to Khadija RA's father Khuwaylid Ibn Asad and put the proposal forward and they all agreed. They put mahr (an obligation paid by the groom towards the bride) of 20 camels and since Rasulullah ﷺ would give all his earnings to his uncle Abu Talib, they gave the mahr from their wealth. Abu Talib gave the khutbah. We don't have the exact wording of the khutbah but we know from Prophet ﷺ that khutbah-tun-nikkah is from the sunnah, as was also from the sunnah of Ibrahim AS and Ismael AS so the Arab knew that there's a khutbah. The khutbah should be given before the nikkah but nowadays some give it after nikkah which is not the sunnah way of doing it. So now the best of mankind, Rasulullah Muhammad ﷺ and one of the best of womankind Khadija RA get married, simple. After nikkah, they gave out some food and sweets so we know that it is also from the sunnah of Rasulullah ﷺ. Another sunnah is the walima which is done after the marriage is consummated. Shaykh Uthman says that nowadays, unfortunately, people do strange things. He has seen a man and a woman just walk up to get nikkah done without a wali, and sometimes people offer mahr to be only one dollar. Although there's nothing wrong with that amount but if you have the ability then why only $1. Give something higher to show that you are at least serious. Then there's another extreme where mahr is set at one million dollars. Similarly there are people who don't even give out candy at nikkah and then there's the other extreme where people are throwing 40-50 different parties, each one costing 50-60 thousand dollars. They make it so difficult for a sister to marry, brothers go into haram because they can't afford to get married as mahr is set so high. There are people who also sell their daughters. In some countries, the bride side buys the grooms side by giving jahez (stuff given by the bride side to the groom). It is a Hindu tradition but has unfortunately made it's way into the practices of many Indian Muslims as well today.
[30:38] Why did Prophet ﷺ marry more than once?
Many of the kuffar (disbelievers) in general hate Islam and want to extinguish Islam. So when their bombs couldn't do it, their guns couldn't do it, their colonialism couldn't do it, their killing of ulema (scholars) couldn't do it, what do they do next? They want to bring shubu-hat (doubts) into the religion and the munafiqoon (hypocrites) from the Muslim will work with them. So they will bring all kinds of weird doubts because they know that as long as we love the Quran and the sunnah, the way of Islam and Shariah, they know that they can't do anything. So what do they do now? Make Shariah looks bad, bring doubts even about the Prophet ﷺ when we know that he was the best of mankind, no doubt. For example, they will ask about why he married so many women, as in what do you mean "wives"? First thing we say to that is SO WHAT?? Allah made it Halal for him and ordered it so that's it! That is the simple true answer but if you want to understand the hikmah behind it then know that after his first marriage, every marriage of Prophet ﷺ had been for the religion and each will be discussed in the upcoming lectures. The time when you are young and have the desire to marry usually between the ages of 20-50, he during this entire time was married to only one woman, Khadija RA. As long as Khadija RA was alive, he did not marry another one. This is a beautiful design, one man and one woman. Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى made Hawwa (Eve) and Adam AS. Allah made Rasulullah ﷺ and Khadija RA marry in such a beautiful example that when there's no need and no issue, then this is the best model. When there's a need, then yes it is Halal so we have no objection to it. And when Rasulullah ﷺ married other women after the death of Khadija RA, each marriage was never for desire. One example is Umm Habiba. She and her husband made Hijra to Abyssinia, Habasha. Her husband became a murtad (one who leaves Islam). Imagine that you are a woman and you have left your land, now you are in a strange land and your husband is telling you to become a murtad, it is a very strong pressure. Rasulullah ﷺ who is back in Makkah at this time has no physical connection, has no idea bout her beauty etc. What does she say in this scenario? "I didn't just bring Iman taqlidan (just go with the people.), but I brought Iman looking at the evidences, I will never leave." Now she's a woman by herself and Rasulullah ﷺ sends her a marriage proposal not because he desires to be with her, he's not even in the same continent but he sends it to support her, to protect her Iman. He sends the proposal through Najashi, the king who was a Muslim as a wali. Most of the wives of Prophet ﷺ were old and married before, not someone who generally people would want to marry. So this is from the hikmah of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى and this is from the great akhlaq of Rasulullah ﷺ. So those from the kuffar and the munafiqoon, if they want to be jealous, let them burn in their jealousy.

[35:41] Khadija RA was the first person to bring Iman
Imam Al-Dhahabi says about Khadija RA, "The first one to bring Iman on Allah and upon his Rasul ﷺ was Khadija RA, then after that Abu Bakr RA." We also have authentic aqwal (sayings) regarding this from Al-Zuhri, Qatada, Musa Ibn Uqbah, Ibn Ishaq and others who report that the first Muslim from the ummah of Rasulullah ﷺ on the face of the Earth was Khadija RA.
[36:28] The honor given to women in Islam
People talk about what is the status of women in Islam. What greater status does Allah give the women except that the first Muslim to be in the ummah of Muhammad ﷺ was a woman, the first shaheed to be in the ummah of Muhammad ﷺ was a woman, the first shaheed in the ummah of Musa AS to be was a woman (the one who worked in the house of Firaun). Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى honored the Muslim women with this and honored Khadija RA with this. And that is why we hope for our sisters that they will be the ones who will defend Islam, and stand for Islam, that would defend the hijab, the niqab, the abaya, not the ones who will sell them out, because this is what Allah has honored the women with. There is a Hadith of Aisha RA mentioned in the Sahih of Imam Muslim and a riwaya is also found in Al-Bukhari that mentions that Rasulullah ﷺ gave the glad tidings to Khadija RA of a house in Jannah. There is a Hadith mentioned in both Muslim and Al-Bukhari where Jibreel AS came to the Prophet ﷺ and said to, "Give the salam to Khadija from her Rab and from me." The riwaya in continues on to give her glad tidings of a beautiful and calm house in Jannah with no noise, no hardship for her. Shaykh Uthman said he looked through the books and could not find anybody else from the women of this Ummah or from anyone before where Jibreel AS came to specially bring the salam directly from Allah to anyone except for Khadija RA. This was not a message that said peace be upon her but it was a direct message from Allah الزواجل Himself. Look at the honor that Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى gave to Khadija RA.
[39:17] Hadith about the best of women to ever walk the Earth
Rasulullah ﷺ in a riwaya in Sahih Al-Bukhari mentions that the best of the women of the ummah that have been sent are Marriam (Mary) AS who was the mother of Prophet Isa AS (Jesus) and the daughter of Imran (this Imran is not from the time of Musa AS as many Christians have it confused), and also with her Khadija RA.
There is another riwaya which is Hasan Sahih, mentioned by Imam Al-Tirmidhi which mentions four women as the best of women who achieved perfection. From them is Marriam AS the mother of Isa AS, from the Khadija RA the wife of Prophet ﷺ, from them Fatima AS the daughter of Prophet ﷺ) and from them Asiya AS, the wife of Firaun. SubhanAllah look at the hikmah of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى, from them is a mother of a prophet, from them is a wife of a prophet, from them a daughter of a prophet and from them is the wife of one of the worst people from the history of mankind, Firaun. So yes, sometimes Allah will bless those who raise their children to be pious as we have in the great example of Marriam AS. From them Allah will bless those who will be the wives of ulema (scholars), tullab (students), mujahideen and so on who support their husbands, like Khadija RA. From them will be the daughters of great scholars etc who obey and support their fathers like we have in the example of Fatima RA. But from them sometimes there will be a women who will be put in the worst of situations, her husband will be from the tagut (the worst of people), from the oppressors but because of her Iman (faith), her husband's, her father's, her children's sins will not affect her and she will be from the best of mankind.
[42:12] Rasulullah ﷺ love for his wife Khadija RA
Rasulullah ﷺ used to mention Khadjia RA so much that Aisha RA said, "As if she was the only women to ever exist on Earth", "as if there was never a women on Earth except Khadija." SubhanAllah, look at the honor Allah gave to Khadjia RA even after she died. Rasulullah ﷺ would say that, "she believed in me when nobody believed in me, she supported me when nobody supported me, she trusted me when nobody trusted me, when people were harming/attacking." Even when Rasulullah ﷺ used to sacrifice, he would take from the meat and send it to the ones that were beloved to Khadjia RA, this is even after she had died because of the love that he had for her, because of the support that she gave to him for the religion of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى.
      [43:33] Their children
Khadjia RA gave birth to six of the children of Rasulullah ﷺ, the first of them being Qasim. And that is why the kunya of Rasulullah ﷺ is Abul Qasim and the kunya of Khadija RA is Ummul-Qasim, who died between the age of 2 and 6. This is from the hikmah of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى. Imagine if the male children of Rasulullah ﷺ had survived. If you think Shia'a and the rafida have ghulu (exaggeration) towards the children that came from Fatima RA, imagine if they were from the sons of Rasulullah ﷺ. This is from the hikmah of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى. So the children born to Khadija RA were Qasim, Zainab RA, Ruqayyah, Fatimah, Umm Khultum and Abdullah also known as Tahir or Tayib. The only child that was not born to Khadjia RA was Ibrahim who was born to Maria al-Qibtiyya RA.
Rasulullah ﷺ and Khadjia are now married and living a happy life. The Kaaba now needs to be rebuilt. What happened around that time will be covered in next lecture.

at 24 Abu Talib asks Prophet Muhammad peace and blessings be on him to work. Abu Talib was financially burdened not due to poverty. Muhammad peace and blessings eb upon him worked for Khadijah who sent with him Maysara his slave girl. this is around the age of marriage. Whenever Prophet peace and blessings be upon him made profits he gave it to his uncle. Khadijah was widowed. She was sought after Her Kunya was Ummu Qaasim. Her lineage bin Kuwalid, ibn Asad, ibn Abdil Izza, ibn Qusayy ibn Khilab? Al Quraishiya Al Assadiyah. ppl ask Sh. Uthman Faruq why not teach from 1 book... when ppl ask how old is Khadijah? Ppl say she is 40, This is from Waqidi who speaks of her age in death, that she was 65. Ibn Asaad mentions different reports. Some say she was 60 at death and 35 at marriage. Imam ibn Hanbal said Waqidi is a liar, Imam Muslim, said he is weak.
10 :30 - Bayhaqi in Dalal Nubuwa and Ibn Kathir says she was 25 years at marriage. Al Hakim says from ibn Abbas 28 years and ibn Isaac does. Bidaya wan Nihaya Ibn KAthir says the most authentic narration is she was 25 years when married. Bayhaqi agreed, Ibn Ishaaq and Ibn Taymiyyah says she is 28, Ibn Asakir mentioned this with isnad from Ibn Abbas!
akram Amr sirah nabiya sahiha, sh. Abdullah ibn Manii Ruki in his tariq in rahiq Makhtum, same evidence, say with Muhammad Abdullah Oshia, Masha Malembat Sirah.
Textually this is enough proof, but we know she had 6 at minimum children. If she was 40 at marriage, she would have kids at mid 50s based on time gap which is unusual.
Allah chooses certain ppl for some situations.
When we think of Sahabas think of their Siffat., when you ask why not us!
She didn't falter when her husband was the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him.
It takes a strong woman to be married to be a da'ee, with the sacrifice and the attacks etc.
She never complained! She gave hope! she was known for sharifa.
She was known to be intelligent. Being in a noble house should lead to good.
Julaibib was also among the best despite no household?
Khadijah say from her house what was covering her caravan and the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him, asked Masarah, and she said she saw the same during the trade.
20 :00 - Some ppl though outward on din, they are hard hearted... Even shahid were effected by debt.
Khadijah said to Masarah I want to propose, she spoke to Nafisa bint Munaiya a servant girl. Its not in Adab of shariah for a grl to just walk up and say I want to marry you. Nafisa asks Prophet peace and blessings be upon him why don't you get married? He said I don't have the means. Nafisa says why don't you marry a noble woman, what about Khadijah, he says don't worry I'll take care of it for you like she said to Khadijah. Before ppl talk to their elders. Uncles Hamza, Abu Talib and maybe Zubayr went to Khadijah's father... they put Mahr of 20 camels. Abu Talib gave the Khutbah for the nikah. They gave food and sweets, this is from the sunnah, then after consummation then is the Walimah.
In other extremes they have 10, 20 parties.
In another country they sell daughters, Hafiz for 100k, and the another is my other daughter isn't religions so pay less...
30 :00 - There some ppl saying i can't do hajj because i need mahr for my daughter...
many non Muslims are jealous. Prophet peace and blessings be upon him is number 1 in michael Hart. We don't need to please. Every nikah from the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him was for the din.
Says if no need marry 1 is best., hmm (Quran starts with polygny though bro)... Marry more then 1 can be for din...
Um Habibah's husband became murtad who pressured her, Prophet peace and blessings be upon him sent a marraige proposal through Najasha. He marries her to protect her iman.
First one to bring Iman on the shahada is Khadijah and then Abu Bakr.
Prophet peace and blessings be upon him gave glad tidings to Khadijah of a house in jannah, and Salam from Allah and then Jibril gives Salam.
Hadith best of Women is Mary bint Amran, and with her Khadijah Radiyallahu anha...
40 :10 - Imam tirmidhi mentions 4 women with perfection of Iman, Maryam, Khadijah, Fatima and Asiyah! Maryam is mother of a Prophet, Khadijah is wife of Prophet, From them is a daughter of a prophet, and from them is a woman is worse of situation.
Aisha said Prophet peace and blessings be upon him said she believed in me when no one believed in me and supported me when no one else did... he would sacrifice and send it out to khadijah's friends. She gave birth to 6 kids, first is Qaasim! So they are Abu and Ummul Qaasim. He died at age 2-6! shi'a pagans worship Ali, imagine what they would do to him. This was from Hikmah of Allah. then Zaynab, then Ruqaiyah, then Um Khulthum, then Abdullah then tahir/tayyib. only other child of his is Ibrahim through MAriyah Attiyah! Next is rebuilding of the Kaba.

@masjidribat at 19:00 you said that the narration of Khadija and Maysarah seeing angels is authentic. However, I have heard otherwise. These narrations of Maysarah and Khadija seeing them seem very dubious and made up even at face value.
    1) It was accepted by almost all of the "salaf" that apart from RasoolAllah pbuh, no other human, atleast from his ummah had seen or will ever see angels in their original form. Not even Abu bakr or Umar.
    2) How then could it be that Maysarah and Khadijah both saw Angels in their original form?
    3) How could It be that both Maysarah and Khadijah saw them, but Prophet SAW himself did not see them and was completely unaware of their presence? Because we know that he SAW had never seen an angel before and was frightened and surprised when Jibreel revealed himself to him during the first revelation.
