  • Improvised hatch covers: I've been to my favourite test place for kayak kit - the surfzone - and tested solutions for improvising a hatch cover.
Obviously everything is possible on flat water, and that some courses and assessments run with only a beach demonstration of people's emergency kit. However, i find it quite interesting to experience how well things hold up in the surf zone environment.
What's in your kit for replacement hatch covers, and what conditions have you experienced that the solution worked (or failed) in...
Big thanks to my surfbuddy Karsten for patience and camera work :-)

Did it keep the yak fresh?

NO NO NO,,, When wrapping always start from the side the water does not come from...(Back of the yak) This way the overlaps don't catch water Same concept as roofing, start from the bottom and work your way up.
Ok you did it right, I responded when you started wrapping it because it looked like the front of the yak...YOU'RE GOOD!

Amateur kayaker here. Is the bungie connected with hook ends or what makes a good attachment? Any more advice regarding this topic?
