My friends 2021 platinum powerstroke broke down 3 times. Truck got lemoned. Guess there’s bad apples on both brands from the millions of trucks they pump out.
I had my truck done at CJC over a week ago. My truck is a 2020 F250 Tremor 7.3L. Carli hasn’t released a kit for my truck yet. So I had the 2.5 backcountry diesel kit with sway bar upgrades and radius arms. I’m told the 7.3L is about 700 lbs lighter which seems a lot to me. I thought the ride would be a lil harsher because it’s lighter. Not the case the truck still rode better then stock on 37” tires. Call CJC they will put you on the right path.

Interesting mileage numbers on your customer’s Fords. Running the speed limit at Highway speed in my stock Ford, I’m averaging 20+ mpg. Combined driving with towing 4 to 6 times per month, I’m at 18 mpg.
Both trucks are pretty solid, but, I’m thinking long run, I’d buy the RAM Cummins simply because the inline six is easier to work on once warranty expires. The Powerstroke is definitely a powerhouse no doubt.
Auto Buildz , I see where you’re going with your theory. But the Cummins isn’t a slouch. That’s the reason why Firepunk Diesel out of Ohio chooses the Cummins as their primary choice of diesel trucks to build. Open the hood of a Ford and you’ll have 4 hours of labor before you even see a valve cover. I work on these trucks. The inline also has more parts distribution due to its longer existence Ford changes the Powerstroke over and over. V8 diesels in small truck is a terrible concept for the long haul. It’s also more expensive. You want to start removing your cab at 200k miles have at it.😉

Ford right now has the HD market figured out. The Ram needed aftermarket help to make it look as nice as it does in this video where Ford makes that Tremor package that already gives it the lift and bigger tires, yes the ford here has aftermarket wheels on it also, but point is you can get a bigger truck right from Ford if you choose with warranty. Ram only puts their base detuned Cummins in their 2500 series where as Ford gives you the same 475/1050 6.7 they use in all their SD trucks thus completely dominating Ram's 2500 offering. You have to get a Ram 3500 to get the Cummins HO to try to keep up to a new powerstroke, these guys nicely downplayed the acceleration and towing performance difference between them. It took Ford a few tries to make a great diesel, it's just what they needed to be taken seriously after the 6.0 and 6.4 debacles.
Good video. You mention mediocre fuel mileage with the Ford. This is at odds with my 2017 F-350 Diesel, Crew Cab, Long bed, 4x4, with the economical 3.31 gears and stock (~32 inch diameter), 6 speed automatic. The video mentioned ~15 MPG. I get substantially better mileage. But I notice that the MPG varies GREATLY as a function of speed. (Should be no surprise given how massive these trucks are) 1) On a 260 mile trip climbing up over the Sierra (7200' elevation), down to near sea level and back, at 60 MPH, the MPG was 21.0 MPG. 2) On a 900 mile, one-way trip with a mix of hills and level, averaging between 60 and 65 MPH, the MPG was 20.0. With the 48 gallon fuel tank found on long beds, I went the entire distance without refueling and still had a little fuel to spare . 3) On highway at 65 MPH, the MPG generally is 19 MPG. 4) On a trip through Utah where the legal speed on the interstate is 80 MPH, I ran between 80 and 85 MPH. The mileage dropped to an appalling 13.6 MPG All these tests were done without towing a trailer, and with less than 600 lbs of load. The 3.31 gears help and is still rated for ~14,000 pound towing, which is more than I plan to tow. Based on my experience, a friend purchased a 2020 F-350 Diesel, Crew Cab, Short bed, 4x4, 3.31 gears, larger 35" tires, and 10 speed automatic. The 10 speed offers a lower low and a higher high gear. Whereas I go 40 MPH/1000 RPM, his combination of transmission and tires runs ~44 MPH/1000 RM. Even with more aggressive acceleration and faster driving, he also gets ~20 MPG. At 65 MPH pulling a 7400 lb trailer, he gets ~15 MPG highway on level terrain. In addition the 2020 Diesel has 475 HP and 1050 lb-ft of torque compared to my 440 HP and 925 lb-ft (Not that I have any complaints about the 2017's power and torque) One other comment: The 6 speed's reverse gear is quite tall, taller than first gear! This is annoying when backing a trailer up a hill. In contrast, the 10 speed's reverse gear is a whopping FIFTY PERCENT lower than that on the 6 speed - much better
I've got both of these, no problems with either one, my fuel mileage finding's are the opposite of yours though. My Ram is about 13 and the Ford is closer to 15 but the Ford will absolutely stomp the Ram when it comes to pulling power.
@@CJCOffRoad thats awesome, I looked at Cali's web page and it shows that its available. Have they worked out all the kinks yet? And does it require welding for the new shock location?
I have always been a ford guy but I have had many Chevys as well, I have one of both right now. But I just ordered a new ram, they are such a different truck than they used to be. You can't beat the Cummins engine, (cp3 in the 21+ FTW) but the transmissions are falling behind in strength, definitely shift better with the new valve body and tuning though. I am not worried about the transmission because the 68rfe's have been around so long there are tons of upgrades and fixes, they are also super easy to rebuild.
I have a 2020, F250, 6.7, Lariat, Tremor. It is awesome. Bought it to tow a 5th wheel, but it is a lot of fun to drive unloaded. With minimal turbo lag, It flies. That command center in the Ram looks good, but I have never used a more intuitive command system that the Ford Sync including all the Japanese and European cars I have owned/driven/rented.
I'm looking to buy one here in the near future as a dually. If ya don't mind me asking, what was your out the door price price and mo. payments? Did you get one off of the lot or did you have to order it? The way that's it's looking, I'm going to have to order one. How much does your 5th wheel weigh? Mine is right around 10k fully loaded and I'll be getting the gooseneck installed as well. Thanks!
@@paulmorris6177 I looked for a CPO. You really only save a bout 10% on a 1 year old CPO of this type. The CPO gave me a 7 year power train that I upgraded to a 7 year bumper to bumper Ford Warrantee and maintenance plan. You only get this capability with a CPO. otherwise you get a second party warrantee. I set my search criteria and continued to refresh the browser until the truck I was looking for appeared. The Super Duty Trucks are in high demand.
What I learned from this video is that I want one of each lol. Great break down guys, both trucks are really impressive offerings and you can't really go wrong either way...unless you get one of those hideous new GM trucks...then you're lost haha. One question for both of you about both brands- These new high end trim trucks come with all kinds of new safe features like automatic braking, collision avoidance, lane keeping assist, traction control, stability control, etc. Can those features be turned completely off? How annoying are they? Not a fan of lane keeping at all. Can the traction control and stability control be turned off completely? I think I remember TC not being able to be fully disabled on my '18 Ram 3500 as it would come on again above a certain speed (35mph I think). How does this affect running in sand, dirt, trails, at speed? Thank you. Edit: Oh and I am hearing on CompD that the new Fords can do 700hp with just a tune only : ) .
Good questions. The lane departure etc isn't a hassle in our experience, and thankfully we have no issues running our brand new trucks in the dirt. Our 2019 shop truck has seen some good dirt miles and with the traction control off you can still have a ton of fun. The power delivery isn't as instant on these new trucks as it is on say a 2006 5.9 because of the torque management, but they still get down. With the new Fords you have to press and then press and hold to turn off traction control and Advance track.
@peace out He said interior. You'd have to be blind to think that Ford comes close to RAM's interior. The RAM looks better than many luxury cars, the Ford look like a truck. The exception are Ford seats which are without question the best in the business. Funny with so much attention to detain on their new truck that RAM stopped short with the seats. Guess they ran out of money. Anyway, RAM doesn't offers a panoramic roof or any power adjustable steering column either. So Ford and GM are ahead in those.
I have a 2021 Tundra but looking for another diesel. I had an 05 duramax and loved it but the Cummins and power stroke seem so much better and I want more payload capacity than my tundra
I like the Cummins, but I think the Fords a better all around package. We usually get a new truck every year or two on the farm and usually go with ford because they always seem to have the best deal. 🤷🏻♂️
Lol 😆 I have a 10 1/2" lift full suspension 40's on a ram 2500 Cummins and 138,000 miles and NEVER had anything go wrong with it. drives amazing for a monster. Ball joints and wheel bearing are still strong. Never gone out of alignment. I've passed alot of ford's on the side of the road .
Our 2017 f350 with stock wheels 35.5" tires gets 23mph highway, 18mpg towing 5k enclosed snowmobile trailer, and 12k 35ft horsetrailer at 15mpg all at 70mph on i90 to i43 in Illinois/ Wisconsin
2021 Super Duty’s should get the new infotainment system. That’s when they will match the Ram. I wish I could get a F250 with Rambox equipped bed. A combination of the two brands.
What a great review and comparison. knowing now how old this video is. and I have done a lot more research after the fact, you guys nailed it and was spot on when this video was produced. Congratulation for a great video and unbias honest reviews. you both are a great asset to the aftermarket truck business. Thanks again for the awesome job done well.
Have a ram but do like the Ford but hell you can't go wrong with anyone of the two , or three. GM Duramax isn't bad either my dad has his 2004 Duramax 2500 with 450,000miles still loads it up with 24 foot cattle trailer with a dozen cows.
Always excited to see another video from you guys. I have to agree that you guys covered everything very well in regards to both trucks. Unless Ram announces a new transmission for 2021 before I order the Ford, 6.7 it is. Oh yeah, of course suspension upgrade from CJC Offroad regardless...
Lol "Cummins guys are always going to be a Cummins guys" yeah because the motor is a better design, easier to work on, better mileage, in line six, much more reliable and cheaper to fix. Don't need to pull the cab to do head gaskets... basically the Cummins is a much better engine that's why Cummins guys will always be Cummins guys.
@@zestooo6932 lol homie you play fortnite and obviously never worked in you're life the cummins doesn't break as much as the powerstroke. you probably dont even drive bruh
JesusIs Coming I don’t play fn, those vids were for the memez. I played it over a year ago. Also, when you’re working oilfield etc. on lease roads that are super rough, you want something that’s not too heavy. I know someone whose truck kept falling apart because all the parts were so heavy. He then bought a 2017/18 super duty, and now bought a 2020 platinum and never looked back since. Dodges are good engine wise etc, but they’re just heavy.
I work on these trucks all day every day. One thing I'll tell you is that everyone has already made up their mind. And that's because everyone values different things. There isn't much that one can do that the other can't. They're both excellent work horses. And trust me neither is easier to work on. RAM's are awful to diagnose, especially when it comes to electrical/module problems. And they're by far more expensive to own and maintain. Ford's arrangement of hardware is... imaginative. And simple issues can become headaches in their own right. From a guy who's been playing with cars since he could walk trust me: make up your damn mind. I prefer Ford's and can explain why I, just myself, think they're better all around. But if you like the RAM or the Duramax, get yourself the damn truck.
Pano sunroofs on the Fords has issues on drainage weep holes and they'll leak into the interior. I know...I own one and it happened to a friend of mine's Ford truck as well.
The Ram in the video has about $2,800 in suspension work, but there’s a lot of options. Check out our website or call and we can help find a system that fits your needs.
Awesome video, something I have been struggling with. Which to buy Ram or Ford, for me I think I am going wait and see what's to come for 2021 if Ram comes out with a new 8 or 9 speed trans I will go with another Ram but if Ford updates there interior...
I tow 20k pounds 4-5 days a week. I went with a 2019 Cummins HO with the aisin. You can’t argue that the aisin is the heaviest duty automatic in a modern truck. It’s not smooth like some, but I want reliability above all else.
I personally wouldn't buy another diesel no matter the brand. WIth the unreliablility of the emissions systems and toting around DEF I've bought my last one. My Ram was always in the shop for emissions problems and it took weeks to get it fixed.
I’ve driven both trucks at enterprise rentals, the 6.7 powerstroke Ford has way more power and will eat any other truck on the road. The ram just feels underpowered.

For a Ram running 37's, you need 8.5-9.5" wide wheels with +18 to +25 offset and around 5.5 to 5.75 backspace. Anything else will require heavy trimming or won't fit at all! Thanks for the support!
Dodge Cummins will always be superior Period.!!!!!!!!!!! I work in the oil Patch & drive bush roads all the time for the past 20yrs For a couple grande you just upgrade to Dynatrac Balljoints & BD Power steering stabilizer ....cost peanuts compared to what you pay for the truck!
I think the factory ride quality is stiff also because most people want to upgrade the stock suspension immediately out the gate before the truck even has 20k miles on it. Like most guns and mechanical equipment they are designed to last and it's only after about 20k or 30k those factory suspensions BARELY start getting broken in and softer

You trippin
Cummins!
What color is that Ram??? It’s perfection
It’s almost like a OD green, maybe olive?
I love that color more than anything on the market
Granite crystal metallic
Nick looool no, the color name is Olive Green Pearlcoat
Can't wait to see the dominator kit on the Ram. Great info guys!
It just got put on and the ride is incredible!
@@CJCOffRoad thats awesome, I looked at Cali's web page and it shows that its available. Have they worked out all the kinks yet? And does it require welding for the new shock location?
@@joseblackberry420 It's all designed and tested, so all we're waiting on is production! It does require welding for the front and rear shock mounts.
Awesome can't wait to order mine.
@@CJCOffRoad saw the welding on IG. Enjoy!
Why buy a big diesel truck if you are not going to tow and work it?
That Ram looks like the Boss truck....that has come to check whether the Ford Has checked in at it's workstation.
That color on the dodge is raw. Still team Powerstroke though✊
4 real. is it like an olive green?
@@CJCOffRoad Awesome thank you for the reply! Yeah, the torque management on my '18 was crazy. It was a slug.
This fool said ram has interior slightly?
You may want to invest in glasses because ram has ford beat by a large margine
@peace out
I will thanks I'm the first on line at my dealer!!!!
@peace out glad I didn't get the raptor but than again I was never impressed with it 😂 dodge all the way!
LOL...youre right!
@peace out you haven't been in the ram. Far superior to the competition.
Either. As long as it’s not a GM product.
Can't wait to buy these used 3 years from now!
I was just about to say I’ll be back in 3 years to get mine
Two good looking trucks, cant say the same for the chevys/gms
I have a 2021 Tundra but looking for another diesel. I had an 05 duramax and loved it but the Cummins and power stroke seem so much better and I want more payload capacity than my tundra
I like the Cummins, but I think the Fords a better all around package. We usually get a new truck every year or two on the farm and usually go with ford because they always seem to have the best deal. 🤷🏻♂️
He does look like how Tom Hardy did in the movie lol
Also fellas, gonna be calling for some ball joints and a new track bar bushing.
Wow!! That Ram is absolutely beautiful!! Nice job guys
That Ram is sick. What color is that?
@@shawnchang4354 Olive Green Pearlcoat. RAM just suspended the color a couple months ago, only some of us that were lucky will have a 22' in it
Our 2017 f350 with stock wheels 35.5" tires gets 23mph highway, 18mpg towing 5k enclosed snowmobile trailer, and 12k 35ft horsetrailer at 15mpg all at 70mph on i90 to i43 in Illinois/ Wisconsin
Ram Cummings is the best 👌
Whats a Cummings?
Funny we looked at the Ford Platnium F350 and hated the seats, we both preferred the seats in the Ram! Guess that's why we all buy different truck.LOL
You guys are some of the best in the industry ! The ultimate place to get your truck lifted. Now we just need you to do some work on the east coast 😉
We ship globally!
@@CJCOffRoad I am more worried about letting folks work on my truck that are not real experts like you guys are.
Glad it was helpful!
Have a ram but do like the Ford but hell you can't go wrong with anyone of the two , or three. GM Duramax isn't bad either my dad has his 2004 Duramax 2500 with 450,000miles still loads it up with 24 foot cattle trailer with a dozen cows.
04 dirty max were ok but new ones are trash.
Great vid! Both solid rigs but Ford is the better looking truck in my opinion! 🤘
You guys are awesome keep up the great work. Love how you are unbiased towards the trucks even though you have your preferences
We do our best! It’s easy when they’re both awesome trucks.
Always excited to see another video from you guys. I have to agree that you guys covered everything very well in regards to both trucks. Unless Ram announces a new transmission for 2021 before I order the Ford, 6.7 it is. Oh yeah, of course suspension upgrade from CJC Offroad regardless...
Like we said in the video, both trucks definitely need some suspension help!
Rumor has it the Ram is getting an Allison 9 speed transmission.
@@edwardharris7080 I would get rid of the 18 ram if that were to happen.
The quality and fit and finish of the rams are so so so much better. But both great trucks.
FORD is the king of trucks!!
Build ford tough!!!!!!
My 2020 Ram 2500 has beat the brakes off several new 250’s, and my Ram is stock. Ford super duty’s ain’t fast. 💯
Ram Cummings, pulling power, sounds like a real truck, reliable as it gets, period.
I’m guessing you’ve never heard a 6.7 powerstroke
Lol "Cummins guys are always going to be a Cummins guys" yeah because the motor is a better design, easier to work on, better mileage, in line six, much more reliable and cheaper to fix. Don't need to pull the cab to do head gaskets... basically the Cummins is a much better engine that's why Cummins guys will always be Cummins guys.
Way heavier, break because of that.
Bingo!!!
Zestooo lmao!! Go drive your Civic and stop texting in big boy threads
For a moment I believe I was watching the movie LEGEND , I love Cummins engines they're one of the best engines
So, with that said... If I were to send you my truck to do with what you done with your Ram, what’s the cost out the door?
The Ram in the video has about $2,800 in suspension work, but there’s a lot of options. Check out our website or call and we can help find a system that fits your needs.
Awesome video, something I have been struggling with. Which to buy Ram or Ford, for me I think I am going wait and see what's to come for 2021 if Ram comes out with a new 8 or 9 speed trans I will go with another Ram but if Ford updates there interior...
Find a 18 ram and drive the last manual
Both are coming to their lineups
Past 2 weeks I’ve seen at least 4 people 19-20 rams in the shop from cp4 just in the rv transportation industry
I’ve seen more fords burned to the ground from their cheap engine fuel filter design
21 ram comes with cp3
I tow 20k pounds 4-5 days a week. I went with a 2019 Cummins HO with the aisin. You can’t argue that the aisin is the heaviest duty automatic in a modern truck. It’s not smooth like some, but I want reliability above all else.
Question should be which is easier to maintain. Ram!
One look at the engine spaghetti on the Powerstroke makes that a pretty clear choice! Haha
@@JustDiesels true, I just had to change the air filter on my tremor. Hardest air filter change ever!
Right On Lawrence! Cummins is much easier to maintain!
I like the wheels on both, especially the bronze look. What type and size are they? Very professional video!
Two best diesels for sale today for sure! Ford and ram are the best half tons now also, as well as the Raptor and TRX.
The ram just feels underpowered.
whew, finally.. I'm glad everyone's on the same page about Ram being much better than Ford.. Thanks for clearing it up!
Run 40-50 lbs air in tires, improves ride in the 2020 Ford Superduty
Both are nice but damn that new ford is sexy
What colour green is that truck in the dodge
Ford have so many recalls and have a punch of problems that’s why I would buy a ram.
Also before the new gen ram in 2019/2020 the G56 6 speed manual was available unlike ford which hasn't offered a manual in over a decade
what rims and tires are on the RAM? did you have to get a lift for it to make that combo work?
Ok bought my Ram 👍🏻 asking what size rims did you go with on your Ram.
Could you please say that minimum back spacing that’s needed also ! Thanks again enjoy your humble Videos and hope one day to all those Carli goodies !
Hey there’s an idea to boost your Videos
Like diesel Dave does have some cool give away’s just saying. Thanks again ✌🏻
For a Ram running 37's, you need 8.5-9.5" wide wheels with +18 to +25 offset and around 5.5 to 5.75 backspace. Anything else will require heavy trimming or won't fit at all! Thanks for the support!
Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t Ford still using the CP4 as well?
Yo you look like Toby from the office
I need to update the front suspension on my 2016 ford f250 any 💡
Dodge Cummins will always be superior Period.!!!!!!!!!!!
I work in the oil Patch & drive bush roads all the time for the past 20yrs
For a couple grande you just upgrade to Dynatrac Balljoints & BD Power steering stabilizer ....cost peanuts compared to what you pay for the truck!
Drink some more of the cuntmins kool-aid slick!!
Cummins always sounded like trash lol just the fact it’s not an 8 cylinder engine makes it sound weak
I’m my 5.9 I’m currently getting 24.9 Hwy and 19.2 city!
Another great video fellas! One other thing you forgot to mention. The new dominator kit for the Ram is pretty huge nod to the Ram.
Absolutely! That suspension system is hands down the smoothest riding system available for any diesel truck.
I still bought a 2020 Superduty but, it is a tough choice between them. Now I just have to save up so you guys can put the lift on.
Any plans for superduty dominator kit?
I like the Ford, I wish they came with a Cummins.
