2:00 "Very, very simple chords but the sound is pretty pleasing, you know". Ha! "pretty pleasing". Understatement of the century.
It’s just three chords. E hammer on with ring finger, G, and an A.
I'm not depressed anymore, but you saved my live Marr & Morrissey, you really did.
im glad
They were they only ones who stood by you....
dont forget the songs that made you cry and the songs that saved your life
It's so good to know someone else is has been there too, and they made something beautiful out of it.
Im not depressed anymore...but i still love The Smiths...oh yeah, I understand that feeling. its like the HAPPY SADNESS (Hellou The Cure).
I could sit and watch him talk about Smiths riffs for days. weeks.... the man is a living legend.
I cried a tire of joy when I heard him play -'Some girls are bigger than others'
***** Scumbag!
Ha, didn't know you could! Not sure how I did that.
Sounds painful I'd get that looked at mate
@@Sebastian-Tickleberry underrates reply😟
Oh Wheely?
1:10 is giving me goosebumps
I agree with that one, same happened to me
Ben Thompson me too, shivers up the spine.
❤
Myself as well. Always with that number.
Johnny is truly a genius.
Absolutely
"Very simple chords but the sound is pretty pleasing" says the creator of one of the most original guitar parts in rock & pop.
The fact that a guitarist at his level takes any time to explain guitars, amps and music the way Johnny Marr does speaks volumes about his character. Seems a very humble man despite enormous success & heaps of accolades. Thanks Johnny.
In that respect similar to Steve Hackett
By all accounts he's the nicest guy in the world. I don't know I've heard a bad word said about him.
"The sound is pretty pleasing" wow what an understatement
His rhythmic precision is astounding. You can really see it when he plays "Some Girls"
At 1:11 begins the most beautiful piece of music ever devised. “Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others” is an underrated gem!
Underrated??? I rate it as one of the best pieces of popular music ever produced. And frankly mr. Shankly, so do most of the people I know. Maybe I'm just lucky...
🙌
It's absolutely amazing and definitely a contender for the best riff ever written. Johnny Fuckin Marr
Tell that to Johann Sebastian.
@@jimnewcombe7584 Look, idk who Joann is but she's tripping if she thinks she's better than the smiths.
He's amazingly charming and down to Earth. Chatted him up after his SF gig a week ago. Humble and so passionate about music. When I told him he inspired me to play guitar 28 years ago, he didn't bask in his priase...he asked me what guitar I played.
Plus...he's a guitar genius.
The most magical guitar player of all times
This riff is so good actually holy SHIT
"The sound is very pleasing". What an understatement.
1:15 - heart skips a beat
1:48 - heart FAILURE
Gavin Paisley SAME AF
WOW !! What a moment hearing him play 'Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others'.. I cannot even begin to articulate how much I fucking LOVE that song - & in particular Johnny's beautiful guitars, particularly the fade out where Mike Joyce goes on to the ride symbol & one of the overdubbed guitars goes 'blip, blip' in stereo - right at the end. My God I love hearing that SO much !! God bless those guys for all time !! Peace Rx
samin354 - Thanx for your reply - and v pleased you also enjoy the songs’ fabulous outro - mesmerising is a perfect 👌 word you used to describe it too - nice one ☝️ Rxx
The guy gave us some great music, and he was so young back then.
He's one gifted man that Mr. Marr.....😊
Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others, what a great song!
This is so beautiful, I'm crying.
1:12-1:36 Everything I love about music and guitar playing.
This man is the most creative guitarist since Hendrix. The world is full of technically brilliant players. But you dont remember a clone who can play a million notes a second. You remember the player who SOUNDS LIKE NOBODY ELSE. And that is Johnny Marr.
I could listen to him play all day. I don't even need to hear the rest of the band. Marr is enough!
what a truly beautiful riff - one of the few times its actually improved without morrisseys lyric.
I read an interview with Marr in Guitar magazine that he was quite proud of the tune and subsequently disappointed when it came back from Moz entitled "Some Girls are Bigger Than Others"
kinda funny how he just nails this difficult-ass guitar riff and goes "its very simple.." lol
Jazz it’s not difficult chords to play simple chords the bar chords are the hardest to master
Off course he does. it's his own riff and Johnny Marr is a legend, so no wonder ....
@Annie Ruok Yeah, I think my comment was about "What Difference Does it Make?" and I've since learned how to play it. The picking hand is where all the magic is for sure.
@@Pacuta_ yeah
Frighteningly talented man
Indeed !
"very simple chords... but the sound is very pleasy"... How soon is now! Just unbelievable what Marr did with that simple chords and sound... expression, feeling, emotion... Genius!!!
I could listen and watch Johnny playing guitar forever. He's just amazing.
DROOL! Johnny blows my mind!
Yes, the sound IS pretty pleasing! :-)
Just three chords and 10 seconds of a riff makes me fucking melt
spine tingling excellence
1:12 your soul goes to heaven
Chords that drove roots right into my soul.
1:11 such a beautiful song...
when someone plays the guitar dont film the fucking headstock and the wall
nah man had to show the authentic jaguar headstock. without which, none of this happens
But they're selling the jaguars so they have too lol
P S you could give Johnny one of those Hello Kitty strats, and he'd still sound like Johnny Marr.
Jesus the guy just belting out the greatest sounds in music history like something straight of the albums.
Johnny is a f'n legend. Guitar master
i get goosebumps every time i hear that riff
Yes, the sound IS pretty pleasing!
Johnny is bringing songs to life like nothing is more natural in the world. Making it look so easy to write and play such music.
Very simple... after having played one of the catchiest and most recogisable riffs ever. What a legend! I was just wondering... could the SGABTO riff be the most melodic riff ever in the history of music?
Just show his fingers dammit!
There up his nose lol
Some Girls is one of his best ever tunes. Just perfect.
I love this guy's playing and what he writes. Great stuff!
johnny makes it look so easy , so inspiring ..makes you want to go out and buy a fender jaguar he's a wizard , a magic melodic living legend
Close your eyes for the most beautiful 24 seconds ever from 1:11
this is magic. johnny marr's playing stands out head and shoulders above any other guitar player i can think of, mostly because he created something utterly new by synthesising so many different styles. he's a living example of the value of having widespread influences.
No sign of strumming when Johnny's around ❤️
such magical sounds
This guy should be ranked alongside Hendrix.
Having listened to The Smiths and playing guitar for most my life, I never really seen Johnny play close up. Pretty amazing to me seeing him dissect his style and sound.
The man changed everything! Just beyond Genius! Supper cool as well!
love his sound. a true legend.
cheers for the upload! it's mint, this
How to be happy in 25 seconds...
That riff gets me chills
As Anthony said to Cleopatra
As he opened a crate of ale :
This sound is fucking sweet!!
:'D
They couldn't show his left hand while playing "Some Girls"? The camera guy obviously isn't a guitar player.
Dane Di Pierro for this particular riff I’d say seeing his right hand is more important tbh
@@jonathanmonroy10 I agree. That picking pattern is really hard to get down. But then again, those notes and chords used really emphasizes finger dexterity and is anything but simple. I'm always in awe how Johnny marr was able to write that. Simply talented.
I’d rather see his picking hand to be honest.
I'd like to see either hand, rather than a close-up of the headstock
You're a right or left handed guitarist for a reason, something which seems to be too easily forgotten.
This will start your morning off right.
He is by far the best and him + morrissey is a match from heaven
my fav band ever
i wish they make a reunion i'll cross the world for it
Coolest video I've seen in a while.
thanks for sharing this darcythorton!
I love that he mentioned george harrison since they are both literally my two favorite guitarists
lovely guitar and chords , a master. john is
The Smiths are the only band I love without particularly liking the lead singer. It's mainly because of JOHNNY MARR!
Undoubtedly an out and out genius!
so much talent ,so modest.
There is but one concern I have just discovered 😷Fender. Thanks again Johnny the legend!🤘
pure majestic
Amazing
...one of many reasons im playing the jaguar..
Sales of Fender Jaguars went up after this was uploaded....
*****
Still haven't seen him, I've blown several chances. Boo.
I got me epiphone cherry red 335 now all i got i do is play like the man who in my opinion leaves Clapton , Hendrix and Rory G in the shade
who put the M in Manchester , Marr did
I bought one
I dont know how you manage, but your sound is so perfect that I could not think of anything better, magic, in my country Spain you are a god, and we know about music, believe me.
Thank you for such a beautiful music.
Really good sounding Jag
I dont think he thinks. He just makes magic.
Que hermoso ese solemne solo, se siente cómo una caricia al alma y no sé por qué.
Greatest sounds!
I could easily watch Johnny talk about music while casually playing Smiths riffs all day 😄💙🎸
Genius. That Some Girls are Bigger Than Others' arpeggio stuff is beautiful.
Fenders one of the best if not sounds
So great.
Lol some riffs are from another universe. Amazes me every time, even 30 years on....
One Word GENIUS !!!
If only he would play the whole thing, start to finish.
Johnny and Bernard Butler are my fav 90s guitarists
Jag You Are
