I see a lot of comments saying that this song is about a soldier suffering from PTSD. While it might apply, that is simply the cover video's interpretation. The original writer/singer, Jason Isbell, wrote it when his then GF, told him he needed to put the bottle down, or she would leave. Jason is now sober and this song is a declaration of love to his wife.
You definitely have to watch the short film he made for the music video! It’s literally the same style that HARDY did for “wait in the truck” you’ll understand it better. Much love to you two ❤
“A heart on the run”. Meaning that he was turning to alcohol to run from himself, and feeling that he can’t trust anybody. “The days when we raged, we flew off the page, such damage was done,” he sings about the fighting the alcohol caused between them “But I made it through, ’cause somebody knew, I was meant for someone.” She never stopped loving him and helped him through it. “Cover Me Up” feels relatable to all those who have felt a deep love and appreciation for another person who has helped you out of a tough time, whom you also find incredibly attractive. The feelings are mutual, and it’s been a while, and it’s cold outside, and… well, you know where this is going. The two of you are locked inside until you, uh… sort some things out. When he sings of “know you’re enough, to use me for good”, he is reassuring both himself and his wife that he is on a path to good now, and that she’s more than enough for him. She has helped him fill that void, which he had drowned with booze in the past.
The song actually talks about a combat veteran who is suffering from PTSD, he is home but isn't sure what home is. Him saying he tore off her dress when he was drunk isn't sexual it was grabbing her and pulling her to him but tearing the dress in the process. The over all view is he just wants to die with her alone in a cabin away from society. She is Home, she is his sanctuary!
@@Haventmetmydad From the original version, I would absolutely agree. Music is subjective and I was projecting to Half and Jai that it wasn't about rape since they viewed the "cover" by Morgan Wallen. I personally like Wallen's version better even though at 50 years old as a combat veteran I have had the pleasure of hearing both versions.
Honestly my favorite cover of all time. Side note OG artist if you guys listen to Jason Isabel If we were Vampires it is one of those life changing songs about perspective
This is a cover, the song writer and original artist is Jason Isbell. Is song writing is deep. John Mayer saidcalled him the greatest song writer alive. Check out his songs "Elephant" and"If We Were Vampires".
Put the song on with lyrics everything is much clearer when you can see all the words. I do love watching you guys. You two are amazing keep up the great work. And God bless you and yours
Y’all should check out Flower Shop by Ernest and Morgan Wallen. It’s new traditional country and it’s 🔥! Also check out Broadway Girls with Morgan Wallen and Lil Durk. It’s about the girls on Broadway St. in Nashville.
JAI...you gotta watch the 8 minute video of the song to really understand PTSD and the lyrics. CONGRATS 👏 👏 ON 300K You guys are amazing. Much love from the Fiji Islands
It's a song about how the writer overcame a serious drug addiction after sobering up and realizing he had hurt his fiancé. The part about not leaving until they need medical attention or the magnolias bloom is just a reference to the detox process. It's cold but he feels like shit and isn't going out to chop wood. He just wants to be covered up until he gets over the detox process
Maybe I have a dirty mind but I interpret that line differently. I have always thought Jason meant they were staying in that bed putting in work until Spring or they become exhausted to the point of needing medical assistance.
Song is about sprightly getting to making love unless someone needs medical help. Think it's about a time that's right about making love time and the man is kinda laying it down.
You guys got to have the lyrics pulled up because you'll get so much more out of the songs while listening to country anyway because it's always a story
Lol when she leaving the boots and the dress and they ain't leaving the room it's cuz they knocking boots 🤣😂...they ain't stopping till somebody needs medical help 😂😂....it's cold in the house he ain't chopping wood so they got to keep it hot in the bedroom 😂...
The song is about a wounded soldier with PTSD he was abusive to his girl. He’s saying they’re not leaving unless somebody needs medical help or the magnolias bloom. Watch the video and it explains it better lol
I'm so glad, finally getting past what he said when drinking, trust me I heard worse from the black and brown. Unfortunately if you really watch the video, you quickly realize he didn't mean it in a disrespectful way. This song his talking about what he said and he hate himself for saying it. He will never do it again.
The song was written by Jason Isbell. He is now, sober… And he wrote this song for his wife. This song is about sobriety and battling with alcoholism. No, he did not rape anyone, when he talks about Tori address… And testing faith… That’s after a drunken night of wanting something from his partner, but they were not in the same mind frame. Percy priest is in Nashville, Tennessee, it is a dam. So when they say, Percy priest breaks open wide in the river runs through, that’s what they are talking about, and referring to. This song is an apologetic love letter from Jason to his wife, swearing that he won’t drink again and that he loves her unconditionally, that’s it.
It’s about a veteran that’s suffering severe ptsd and wants to die and the only thing that makes him feel safe or like home is her but because of his condition, he has done things he’s ashamed of that’s hurt her
Songs about PTSD......and the struggles our military personnel both men and female deal with coming home from combat...... It's real It's sad And we need to help them all we can. Thank you for doing the video ❤️
For sure watch the short film it will put it in context. And he is saying he doesn't want either of them to leave the room unless someone needs medical help or the magnolias bloom meaning the season has changed. He's dealing with PTSD and turned to alcohol and he ripped her dress in an argument about the drinking not meaning to.
Luv this song it’s filled with meaning you have a comment in your chat from Jason Skaggs he explains this best please read it?! Keep up the reactions and let the good vibes flow peace & much luv💫
The part that they’re talking about with the medical attention is kind of just a description of how long he said they’re willing to be in the house working on their issues. Literally until someone needs medical attention or the magnolias bloom. Presumably, it’s winter with the talk of it being cold in the house and not chopping firewood, etc. Magnolias typically bloom in the spring so it’s just another reference of time. At least that’s how I see it. Like others have mentioned they did do a short film to this song about someone going through PTSD and having a drinking problem, etc. you might want to check that one out. But the best version of this song is really the first live version Morgan Wallen did of it on taste of country I think it was called.
This version is about a military guy coming home with terrible PTSD and stars drinking but the music video for this cover is phenomenal and will show you what is going on. Their is no rape btw.

You really need to watch the video to get a real good idea of the song. I promise well worth the time to watch it. One of my favorite videos. I would love to see a reaction to it.
Morgan was kicked off the voice when he was 20. Usher turned for him, Blake didn’t 🤣🤣 Usher let him go after the knockouts. Adam stole him then let him go a week later. He’s said in an interview they didn’t want him singing country music. Big mistake! Huge!
I think y'all misunderstood the song. He is saying that he is swearing off drinking for her and that even though he's put her through hell they going to lock themselves in a room love eachother until spring..
The song talks about not leaving the room until they need medical help. Meaning they don’t want to leave each other. Ripping off the dress doesn’t mean rape but perhaps a little aggressive from drinking.
Actually I think is a song love. It’s not literal, but there were times where alcohol fueled his jealousy. Love as it’s finest with some realistic truths.
Context of this song is different. It’s meaning is a couple in the honeymoon phase. Is what I believe. Like just moved in together and it’s just the bunny house lol
😂 what I do know it's cold in that house though. I don't think think the original song was about some of the things yal were talking about idk. Love yals videos regardless
