It leaves a few minutes earlier because all the passengers and vehicles have boarded. The passengers on foot can board until 10 minutes before scheduled departure. Having sailed on it dozens of times, the ship almost always leaves a couple minutes early, even when it’s fully booked.

I’m also Estonian, i also had finnish vacations for 2 years, while i was at the Viking Xprs, this sound at 10:53 was coming from the ship’s funnel, i thought it was actually when ship gets faster (i also thought the sound was actually a motorcycle)

Several years back I took a one day tour of Tallinn from Helsinki. A nice trip on the ferries and, with a few free hours in Tallinn after the tour, I bought quite a bit of sheet music by Estonian composers.

This is a smaller terminal (A-terminal), there is a bigger one close by (D-terminal).

D-terminal is used by Tallink Silja-ferry company!

It seems with the amount of traffic on this route, a fast catamaran ferry service would be viable at least during the summer.

There was once a catamaran service between Tallinn and Helsinki, but the prices were too high to compete with larger companies, and the company went bankrupt.

You mean a catamaran service would be enough? In 2022, the ferries between Helsinki and Tallinn carried over 6 million passengers, the numbers were even higher before Covid. There are three ferry companies competing, the Viking Xpress ferry on the video is one of the smaller ones. Helsinki-Tallinn is also an important cargo route.

I was on the Tallink in 1989 when the USSR still existed. A large number of Finnish drunks came on the weekend to get drunk in Tallinn. I had a US passport but there was no difficulty entering Estonia, then in the USSR.
