Cool city! We sang a lot of music by Estonian composers Veljo Tormis and Arvo Part in college. Estonia has a massive singing festival where they have a 30,000 voice choir!
When we were researching for the video we learned about the big music culture there! We wish we could’ve attended a show but just had such limited time. On their Independence Day they all come together to sing! That’s so cool!
as an Estonian it is always really fun to watch when tourists come to our country and what they think of it, hopefully more and more people in the future will know about us and our great culture :)
I love Tallinn! I've been there twice. It's a hidden gem and one of Europe's best small cities. If you ever go back you should also check out Telliskivi. It's the neighborhood just west of the old town just down the hill 10 minutes walk from the Patkuli viewing platform. It's the old Soviet industrial area that's now transformed into restaurants, art studios, distilleries, tech startups etc. There is this great juxtaposition between the historic medieval Vana Tallinn at the top of the Hill and trendy post-Soviet Telliskivi below. Great video!
Oh wow! That sounds very interesting! If we had more time there we definitely would have done more. It needs more than a quick day there for sure! Thanks for the tips for next time
@@AdventuresofAplusK yes, it deserves more than a day. We did the ferry trip from Helsinki like you, but I am glad that we at least got a room for the night in Tallinn before returning to Helsinki the next day. Wish we would have spent an even longer time there.
Thanks for another adventure! I went to high school with a good friend who's family was from Estonia. I loved going to her home, where her Grandmom also lived, and they would speak Estonian together. Her family was very active in the states with keeping Estonian traditions and the culture alive. Also, those cinnamon buns reminded me of a similar bakery I visited in Iceland (Brauð & co. - put it on your list, if not already!), but the ones in Iceland were much bigger. Either way - YUM!!! Thanks again for your lovely glimpse into a little bit of this beautiful country!
Wow, I didnt realize that Estonia, or at least city of Tallinn is beautiful .. a very charming and historic city. Thank you for sharing that with us ... I loved it! I want to add this to my bucket list for sure.
Truly has the old world charm. Amazing the buildings are still in quite good standings. Hoping Kona girl is home staying warm and watching your videos also.!! 👍👍5 🏍🙋♂️
Those buildings have been burnt down to the ground many times during centuries. The last time being in the bombing of Tallinn in 1943. And everything has always been built back again, the way it was. We have very detailed laws about maintaining old buildings, they cannot be built back in any other way than they originally were. And no modern building allowed in Old Town. My grandmother was in Tallinn during the 1943 bombing, she was 10 years old. Today they are showing a film shot at the time of the bombing in an old underground shelter. I watched it last summer and it made me so angry:Who the fuck are you to dare to destroy my city? Never thought of it before what it must have looked like after the event. I have seen pictures but I never put it together in my head before. That is was actually the same building on the same streets where I go every day. And it was all destroyed and all built back up again. And all that was done in a really dark depressing time, the first years of the Soviet occupation with massacres and deportations of tens of thousands of people, and bringing in loads of Russian working class from all over Russia to Estonia. And Estonians taken out of their homes and those homes given to those loads of people brought in against our will and probably against their own as well. So the Estonian people lost almost everything back then and in the next decades to come. The city was in ruins. But it was built back up really quickly. I cannot imagine where the resources came from. So maintaining the city like that has not been easy. And now it all ours again and everyone who thinks otherwise can go f..k themselves. Back in Covid times it felt especially ours because there was nobody here but us for a change. everything was quiet and empty. Just the city alone. It was really nice.
I live in Finland and we visit Tallinn regularly. The old town is lovely and there's always something new, not to mention good restaurants. It's so easy and fast to go there.
We did this trip in reverse in Summer 2022 and your ferry was a LOT better than ours! Sadama Turg is a great market near the boat terminal that has lots of food and gifts. Great video!
I'm not sure when, but they recently rolled these new ferries out so maybe you were on one of the last sailings of the old ones! Thanks and thanks for watching!
It’s so fun “traveling” along with you two! I’m visiting places I probably won’t get to. I enjoyed Estonia with you; that food look fascinating and amazing!
We were there a few years ago for a couple days, stayed at an airbnb just a minute or two from the old town square. Loved Tallinn and would definitely go back, thanks for sharing your experience with us!!
Hi guys! Been following you since you went to Newfoundland. I am a Newfoundlander that lived and worked in Helsinki for two years. You will love it and I can't wait to see where you go and what fun you get up to.

The 9:25 is where I work. we get very few tourists here because it is not "on the way". I don"t know from where to where but there is hardly anyone ever here even though it is Old town and way more authentic than the streets that tourists lose themselves on usually. And the view is really good from Nunna tower. Keep that in mind when you come here. It is easy to miss because the entrance to the tower is a little hidden. I always explain that to all the visitors who come but when I look on the security camera, hardly anyone ever bothers to go there. But the view is really great, straight to Toompea. You do not look down on it like you usually do but Toompea is right next to the tower, on the same height.
We always love your videos. We enjoy Your thoughts and views of the places you visit because as full time RVers (but only in the US) we love to see other areas of the world.
Go to Estonia during the summer, visit the bog, tiny cities and so on, you will love it. I can give you a list for different things if you are really interested.
Winter inside has been enhanced by watching travelers like A+K. The Arctic drive, 🇨🇦Maritimes, Newfoundland trekking, and now for Xmas and New Year’s! Enjoyed Talinn and think my next European trip may include Baltic nations! Those cardamom and cinnamon buns! And … more dancing! Kathryn is so cute along with the Estonian dance troupe!
Loved the new video Adam & Kathryn. Keep up the excellent work. This is very timely, as I just booked Helsinki and Tallinn for this June last week coming from Texas. Looks great and appreciate the tips. The bakery looked fantastic to have snacks for our bud onward to Riga.
Riga is a sad shadow of Tallinn. Bigger of course and fancier. But they have not managed to keep it medieval, they have built all sorts of pointless ugly building all over it. And also still quite a Soviet style vibe present. I"d rather spend the extra time in Tallinn(or the rest of Estonia) Or go to Vilnius. Vilnius Old Town is something quite different and really amazing. But Riga_ not worth it. And cold (metaphorically, physically it is warmer than Tallinn). People are quite rude, particularly taxi drivers and Russians.
Visted Tallinn while on an epic Baltic cruise back in 2018 and thought the old city was wonderful to walk around in. I agree that it is a "hidden gem". Catching up with your videos since I somehow missed a month worth of notifications.
I just discovered your channel while researching an upcoming trip to Death Valley and was excited to see this latest video. It brought back memories of visiting Finland at the end of 2019. We spent a week in Helsinki and another way up north in Ivalo, hoping to see the northern lights. We didn’t have much success since it snowed the entire time but staying in a glass igloo/cabin was such an incredible experience that an aurora sighting would have just been bonus. I’d go back in a heartbeat just for the saunas! Looking forward to your upcoming videos!
Hey Tony! That’s awesome! We stayed in an off grid cabin near Ivalo! It was incredible. Our Helsinki video will come out this Sunday and we’re excited to share that and the rest of our Finland videos! Thanks for watching!
I love you guys. I love that you don't drink any alcohol. I never heard swearing. God is definitely working through you guys. Keep it up your friend George.
Yeah we switched up a little this end of year. We’re on a little travel break currently in Texas editing the videos from this trip and planning out the year!
Ya'll got some new jackets and they look super cozy and warm. We are still here in Los Altos, going into San Fransisco every weekend to see the sights. We like it!
I don't think for Europeans Tallinn is regarded hidden or underrated, well it might feel in winter like that. But in summer it is surely a different story. Actually, it is also quite common at Christmas markets in Germany and in Central Europe to have small nostalgic carrousel as well - mostly for children.
We didn’t notice the rides in the 4 Christmas markets we visited in Munich. We might not have been paying attention to that though. We only saw little playhouses at most in Munich Yes I’m sure Tallinn isn’t underrated for some
Hello Adventurers 😎😎, WOW those rolls look so Delicious and crunchy. And...of course you don't save anything 😊. So when are we gonna see Kona😊? Awesome trips through Europe!
I've also done the Helsinki - Tallinn ferry before and actually stayed overnight in the stateroom as well. Super economical and fun. And love these cities!
Thanks for recommending olde Hansa restaurant. During my recent trip to Tallinn 10 days ago, I had made a reservation well in advance and it was amazing to be in that medieval setting.
Most of the ferries between Finland and Estonia and also Finland-Sweden are like that. Some ferries have more in common with cruiseships and are called cruiseferries. Two ferries that goes between Helsinki and Stockholm have a promenade onboard with restaurants, bars and shops with cabins looking down from above. Similar to promenades found on modern Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines ships like Voyager, Freedom, Oasis and Icon of The Seas.
I made cardamom buns last Christmas, I might have to do it again soon, even though it's a Christmasy food...also one more destination for the dream list.
I love you 2 so much! Katherine especially partial to you because you spell your name as my daughter. And like the 2 of you describe things as “pillowy”
Great video!! Our neighbour had visitors over from Holland and they were so surprised to learn that they could not travel across Canada in a day. They are so used to having other countries in such close proximity. I'm so jealous. I love venison, parsnips and blood sausage (we call it blood pudding). Glad you tried the sausage Kathryn.
Haha yes Canada is MASSIVE! It was awesome being able to visit so many countries so easily on this trip! The food was wonderful and I’m proud of Kathryn as well!
The cinematography is so good, I especially love the montages between scenes. Do you guys color grade your videos or do you let the camera do all of the work? I am using just my iPhone and I can't nearly get as cinematic as I would like. Also, Estonia looks beautiful and have only seen it when it was showcased on the Bachelor during one season lol.
Hey! Yes Kathryn lightly color grades in Premiere Pro. Nothing crazy, just some adjustments Tallinn was spectacular! Thank you and thanks for watching!
You picked the right ferry company! Although Tallink is the most expensive, they are estonian and as one, I can't be more proud of that perfect company so thx for experiencing their experience 😅
Yes, kind of. What i like to do when I go to places where I have been before, so that I know it already a little, but still is new enough, i like to go to a bookstore first, buy a book, and then find a cafe, get coffee and read the book. But I never pay much attention to food. I am indifferent to food in general@@AdventuresofAplusK
That sounds like a great plan! When I have time I like to read a book about a place before I visit. Doesn't always happen, but it helps me recognize things I see that I wouldn't know of if I didn't read about it before. We love food. It's one of our favorite things. You learn so much about a place through its food. Just like your comment about the sausage
Thanks for the awesome video! How long did you stay in Tallin? Which return ferry (time) did you take back to Helsinki? ... Nevermind, i just rewatched and found the info in The video 😊
Actually, the Town Hall Square is the most beautiful AFTER the Christmas market is gone. So what we do is get rid of the obvious Christmas stuff, but we leave the trees and bring all the small trees from the rest of the Old Town to the square and light them up (with minimalistic white lights , not the cheesy horrible blinking lights) and also we bring the electric sculptures of Estonian wild animals (wolves, foxes, deer, squirrels, lynxes...) So we have a Nordic fantasy forest in the middle of the Old Town and that is really nice. The tradition started during Covid, It was during the second wave that public events were cancelled around Christmas. And the emphasis was on making the Old Town and the rest of the city as beautiful as possible so people could get the Christmas and winter spirit by just walking around (fortunately we never had a total lockdown during Covid, walking around anywhere for as long as you wish was always possible). So quite a lot of money was spent on these electric animal sculptures and now we still have them all over the city. So why not check the Town Hall Square AFTER Christmas. It is a unique sight. Christmas markets as such are all over the world, nothing special about them.
at 5:08 is ’pierre chocolaterie’, i’m guessing you didn’t go there since it’s not on the video. if you go back to tallinn again, you should totally go there! they have the best cakes and especially in the summer the place is just so pretty and nice
Next time check out South Estonia - Tartu, Otepää, Võru, Viljandi.. There is some real magic in Estonian smaller cities. Although Tartu is the second largest, the vibe is completely different and relaxed.
Great and funny video once again! 😂 We finnish people tend to visit Estonia many times a summer to get cheaper alcohol becouse alcohol is expensive in Finland. I love the old town alot there!
Take it from a lifelong skier who has skied all over the US and several places in Europe. Mittens are much warmer than gloves. They are a nuisance while trying to do things but way warmer. I have skied in temps from minus 30 degrees to 58 degrees with puddles of standing water on the snow. I have always suffered from cold hands. I need mittens when most do well in gloves. Carry quality mittens and gloves with you and when gloves don't get it done, put on the mittens. No need for warmers. When you are balling up your hands inside gloves, you are essentially creating the same environment as mittens. You finger warm each other up. Just FYI.
I would recommend double layer gloves. And keep them on all the time while outside. And the rest of your clothing has to be warm as well, it works as a whole. Often in Tallinn videos I see people with no hats, with their coats open in front, their scarf very sexily flowing around instead of being tightly around your neck. When it is cold, it is important to keep yourself warm all the time because once you freeze, you can wear whatever you like, you will not get warm no matter what. In winter in Estonia you can either look good or be warm. Not both.
Yes it’s only about a 15 minute walk 😃 Here’s a guide to taking a day trip to Tallinn we just wrote on our website: adventuresofaplusk.com/day-trip-tallinn-helsinki/
By the way, the Baltic Sea is supposedly the most covered by ferries and ships in the world. Both in terms of number of ships and number of crossings per day. I do not know if it is true but I have heard it. If you have not taken a ferry to Stockholm, I suggest you do that. Because many hours before the ferry gets there, it navigates between all the little island and that is amazing. The only thing that justifies sea travel for me. Otherwise I prefer air transport. Also you get to have a whole night on a ship instead of just an hour on average between Estonia and Finland.

We were really impressed!
The building is really artistic and not so old
I made cardamom buns last Christmas, I might have to do it again soon, even though it's a Christmasy food...also one more destination for the dream list.
I love you 2 so much! Katherine especially partial to you because you spell your name as my daughter. And like the 2 of you describe things as “pillowy”
Thank you! ❤️
We enjoyed the video. Another great job. The architecture in Tallinn is amazing. It’s surprising to me that it survived Soviet modernization.
Not only survived but Tallinn is totally thriving right now!
It was a very fascinating city to visit!
Nothing crazy, just some adjustments
Tallinn was spectacular!
Thank you and thanks for watching!
@@AdventuresofAplusK Thanks for the insight!
just ordered your new sticker pack for my overland rear door box it's were I collect them all
Awesome! Thank you so much! ❤️
You picked the right ferry company!
Although Tallink is the most expensive, they are estonian and as one, I can't be more proud of that perfect company so thx for experiencing their experience 😅
It was so nice and such a great experience!
All these travel videos are really really food oriented
Food is one of our favorite ways to experience a new culture and travel destination 😊
Here's some info to help you plan!

Just kidding. Great video as always. Love the locations & the editing. 🤙🏼
WOW!!!!
Ok I'm coming save my seat right NOW😂.!
That sounds awesome! We’d love to come back one day! Tallinn was one of our favorite places we visited during this Europe trip
at 5:08 is ’pierre chocolaterie’, i’m guessing you didn’t go there since it’s not on the video. if you go back to tallinn again, you should totally go there! they have the best cakes and especially in the summer the place is just so pretty and nice
We’ll have to check it out next time. Thanks!
So clean n high tech
Next time check out South Estonia - Tartu, Otepää, Võru, Viljandi.. There is some real magic in Estonian smaller cities. Although Tartu is the second largest, the vibe is completely different and relaxed.
We’d love to do more in Estonia one day!
@@AdventuresofAplusK if needed any good insight about south estonia then shout me and will suggest few thibgs
Nice bakery ❤❤
Great and funny video once again! 😂 We finnish people tend to visit Estonia many times a summer to get cheaper alcohol becouse alcohol is expensive in Finland. I love the old town alot there!
Estonia was so nice! Thanks for watching!
All that food you shovel in, that walking and climbing in castles keeps you fit and trim.
Just FYI.
Yes we had mittens as well. We used them when we weren't filming. It's very difficult to film a video (or do anything) using mittens 😂
Not both.
You mentioned a London and Scotland trip in this video. Did you film that trip?
That was pre RUclips unfortunately!
Thanks for great video.
Can you please tell - what device you use for filming? Looking amazing quality.

You have to be a special kind of optimistic to keep the energy up
or just happy to be doing what you're doing 🤷♂️
2:39 in the video, confused about the yes no on each line. Can you travel freely across the yellow blue purple colored countries.
hi there, thanks for the video. Do you walk from the Old City harbor, the port that you arrive to Town Hall Square (Raekoja Plats)?
Yes it’s only about a 15 minute walk 😃
Here’s a guide to taking a day trip to Tallinn we just wrote on our website: adventuresofaplusk.com/day-trip-tallinn-helsinki/
Let it to be honest . I have given my heart to Johanna North from Finland first girl I met on you tube but not in person
Another amazing video! I can wait to visit! But shh, don't spread the secret of all these charming places that people often overlook! :)
I don't think we're breaking any news! These are all very popular areas to visit 😊 thanks for watching!
By the way - did you guys also make a video of Helsinki?
Yes we did! Stay tuned for next Sunday!
That sounds wonderful! We’d love to ride on that ferry!
Oldated map, Croatia is now member of Schengen area.
Thanks
FYI, as a former Cast Member, i can confidently say that Disney has already done their research
Oh I don’t doubt it!
