- Hey its been a while. Wanted to upload a video on this manga for a while and I guess it took me a bit to get the editing down. A lot has happened in last 4 months and I hope I can post more but there is no guarantee. Hopefully the editing in this video is serviceable, its a little messy but hey that's just me.

Didn't feel like you had to spoil the last panels of Girl's Last Tour just to say you didn't like the ending, I'm still reading it...
Especially considering how great the ending is
I only got like 3-4 minutes in before I realised that oh, I'm better off reading it because they're explaining and "spoiling" a lot already
One of the most meaningful things I've ever read. Each chapter ends in such a way that makes feel me wistful and melancholy but like I've also grown and developed a bit as well.

nooouuu, you got mogawa wrong. She's an artist that is forced to conform and work, she no longer has the time for her favorite subject (creating donut shaped thing) and then she got the responsibility of holedigging club pushed unto her. anyway things being shimeji she unconsiously dugs deep into earth because she wants to create donuts! that's her outlet, anyway since the prepetual digging machine replaced her hobby with automation (ai art?) she became apathetic and hopeless, she jumped and well the beach scene, then the gardener let her experience the joys of making art again (sculpture of donuts).
The whole manga seems like a field report of someone describing her last acid trip. From the weird shapes and symbolism to ego death and becoming one, there is a lot you can read in LSD experience reports. Maybe the artist trying out psychedelic drugs now to cope with her depression.
I think both interpretations are valid

As someone who has a lot of trouble connecting with manga as a medium but absolutely loved and adored masterpieces like Girls Last Tour. When I started reading Shimeji Simulation I got really absorved by the bizarre, dark, yet calm ambience in the whole manga but I never had the capacity to really understand what was happening in each chapter. Thank you so very much for talking about your interpretations, it moved me so much and it finally gave me the compass I needed to make a better introspection.

Like how you talked about this manga with its surrealism, and themes without mentioning Sonny Boy, since I feel like they'd be similar with that bleak atmosphere or almost insanity with its sequences similar to this. I was waiting for it ngl but solid video.

My guy, I was absolutely devastated by Girls Last Tour, I don't think I can handle another, even if it was 4 years ago.
Given that we see a chapter that details the existence of some sort of object that has been shot far into space in GLT, and that Shijima herself appears in the background of GLT, I'd say that it's a good bet that the two manga are connected. Even the name Tsukishima, which is the family name of Shijima and her sister, appears in GLT as the name of a company that creates *technology*.
Shimeji simulation is like heaven for people die at girls last tour, until ch 40
it still kinda is. I believe in the version that humanity uploaded their consciousness on a computer and launched it into space because that explains all the crossovers between girls last tour and shimeji simulation

I respect that you didn't like the ending of girls last tour but in I think that the ending is the best way to end the history, girls last tour is about how you need to enjoy the journey and live like chito and yuu living having a objective but living for the pleasure of living, kanazawa and ishii just live for their objectives and dont really enjoy the journey but the thing that keeps the two girls alive are the joy of little things lile taking a bath or just talk, girls last tour is about that enjoy the adventure not about the ending, the ending is perfect because they aren't sad they are happy, they accept that they are going to die but like they said, "living was the best, wasn't it?" Is just a beautiful ending that makes me cry every time I read it, girls last tour is a optimistic view of the world is something truly special that talks about a lot of things like religion, the agony of living forever the fear of being forgotten, but the most important question is how you want to truly live your life, I really love girls last tour and the ending is just crazy, again I respect your opinion but I still want to put this comment just to express why I really like girls last tour ending
I actually really like the ending of girls last tour, all I said was that it was left anti climactic on purpose, and it worked... I never said it was bad.

Thank you for this video. I've been wanting to recommend my friends to start reading Shimeji Simulation but i myself struggles to explain into words wtf is going on in this manga so this was much needed.
judging by the quality of the video I expected it to have hundreds of thousands of views, but it's seriously underrated. I reckon it'll go viral, so I claim my "here before viral" title. gl with future vids man, you got a talent and your work is impressive!

I'm really sorry to say after finishing this video, you might have misunderstood the source material. Still a very good video, but the subject is misread. I feel like - apologies - you speed read it or maybe skipped a few chapter. I would ask you to reread and rewrite the scripts a little but that would be too much of work to do and it would definitely leaves a bad taste. But I implore you to reread the manga again.

I read it because it had the yuri tag, but it went the same as Girl's Last Tour, it is more than cool people! The setting is absolutely amazing, it's just so new and unique! Great to hear about it even now! Thank you very much : D

This manga broke me unlike anything I’ve read recently (I read GLT and while I felt a bit sad at the end I could maintain my composure) This however had me sobbing from the end of the chapter where it goes into text to the very end of the story and beyond that I guess I grew to really like the characters without realizing and seeing an apathetic character start to cry punched me in the gut a bit too hard while it’s not my favorite manga or really even close to it (while GLT is my favorite manga) I still very much enjoyed it overall and is something I think people should read especially if they like seeing a world of really bizarre stuff
You should read Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou. It is the most beautiful post-apocalyptic manga I have ever read.
If you liked GLT and Shimeji Simulation, you'll probably like this manga.

The most recent chapter as of this comment (29th of June 2023) was soo damn good, but also brings up even more question about what truly is the nature of their world.
Read the ending and my god I love how it was anticlimactic but it was a more optimistic than GLT.

It has alot of talk about existence. My favorite moments was with Shimeji sister final moment for her wish the people to still exist and sacrificing her own existence, and Shimeji conversation with the tall lady and her recreation of life and struggle to just exist and how it would change yourself and change someone else. In the end when Shimeji and Majime embrace each other to be one again but now they didn't completely merged or should I say their concept of "disappear" because they both wished to exist and they exist separately even if they're one and It's fucking beautiful. In the end everyone will keep exist in their own solitude and people will visit them by the train that passes through. It doesn't have the same shock as GLT but my god my mind just wonders in every lasting emotion thinking about it. Thank you Tsukumizu :')

it's not just a spiritual successor, i think it could even be a direct sequel, considering that the computer that runs the simulation, was created in the girls last tour universe before the extinction

Altho, I personally can't stand manga and anime (or games) that's cast is female-only. Little girls, for the sole reson of "oh wow look, so moe and kawaii. tits. panties." No other explanation from the writer. Girls' last Tour had the same problem. It's sad because from how you talked about it, it seems to have an interesting premise / story.
Did you read Girl’s Last Tour? It’s a subversion of the Slice of Life anime genre. It creates narrative dissonance by casting normally hopeful individuals in a hopeless situation. It’s actually incredibly genius.
