  • Using ropes as a scent post sent post over a mock scrape is a valuable tool for surveying early season bucks on your property. In this video I show you how to go about creating a proper rope set and setting up a trail camera! #missouri #whitetaildeer #hunting #trailcam

At the 3:00 mark, I will take and wrap my rope just a tad bit more with the electrical tape, and then I will cut through the MIDDLE of the rope. This kills two birds with one stone. You don't have to wrap the end of the rope again.
I also add a zip tie near both ends to keep the rope tight. On the hanging end of the rope I will use Paracord, with a zip tie, as my "tie" string, keeping the end of my rope just a little lower than waist height, as I found that fawns like to "play" with these "mock scrapes" too.
Another tip is that I will take a short piece of grape vine and zip tie it to my rope. This provides a bit of "stiffness" to the rope and keeps it from swinging wildly in the wind.
One more tip for your viewers. I like to set my rope outside for a few weeks before hanging in a scrape site as this allows most human scent to disappear.

What kind of rope are you using?

I might would use plastic gloves...????

You could, although it's probably pointless. The rope is going to come from with a range if different smells if you get it from a farm supply store like I did, and I can almost guarantee that the guy handling and cutting it in the store will not be using gloves. Plus your scent will be on your trail camera near bye, the human scent factor is hard to control.
