- The song The Workers of Vienna was probably made in 1927, when during the so-called Julirevolte in Vienna 89 demonstrators were killed by shots in the crowd. The text is by Fritz Brügel (1897-1955), a Viennese poet and essayist. The melody was taken from the Soviet march White Army, Black Baron ("Белая армия, чёрный барон", 1920) by Samuel Pokrass (1897-1939).

A fantastic worker song with a Russian melody! Don't look too much on the political aspect but the aesthetical :)

@@mo_shiota1637 All diesen Ideologien liegt aber die Annahme zugrunde, dass die Menschen, sobald sie ein großes Problem erkannt haben, bereit sind, auch ausnahmslos zu handeln, um dieses Problem zu bekämpfen.
Und diese Annahme hat sich im Laufe der Zeit schlicht als falsch erwiesen.

Guck dir mal die Geschichte der wiener Arbeiterbewegung an, die wird bloß verschwiegen und verteufelt von der alles bestimmenden kapitalistischen Medienlandschaft. I'm french. During WW2, there was Vichy France, a german Puppet. That means that France, at least part of it, contributed to the holocaust. If german music is censored because of "HaTeSpEeCh", why isn't french music censored too?

No matter how your views are on Socialism or Communism, they made really good music.
And on a historcal note: It makes sense, because the industrialised world and the workers were constantly exploited to the fullest and they frankly had enough of this. Today its rather misplaced especially in Germany were we have "Soziale Marktwirtschaft" which is Capitalism combined and restricted by the great ideas off these workers who just wanted to have a better work life.
Also its funny, that quite possibly without the most reactionary politician Germany ever had (and the best in my opinion), because he gave in to the Socialist demands and because off that we have it embeded in our country now. Just like basic and mandatory healthcare securing a stable and rich country :D
And anyone who dismisses and hates early united Germany dismisses also the foundation we are build on today.

The language of a song with vocals usually refers to the language in which it's written and not the country where it came from. And since Germans and Austrians speak the same language, this is clearly german song.

Basically the German version of "Krasnaja Armija, Chjornyj Baron!" Must have been adopted by the GDR during Soviet times.
