Finally someone with some damn sense when it comes to shampoo🙌🏾. How can people expect products to properly absorb into the hair cuticle with layers of product buildup coating the hair?! I don't understand why a lot of these natural hair gurus are setting people up for failure?! Shampooing is absolutely necessary for a healthy scalp & healthier hair. Yeah I can admit I don't like the temporary feeling that shampoo leaves behind but I always condition or deep condition afterwards. I'm natural & have been natural my whole life. My hair is currently tailbone length when stretched & I believe that to be because I consistently cleanse & deep condition my hair every week. Thank you for your honesty & for informing people out there because shampoos do serve a purpose & people shouldn't be afraid of them. Oh & by the way I love you & your videos ♥️

The risk of using these chemicals is simply to great for me personally so I restrict use of these products to a minimum. Just my view on the matter....
You are correct. There are definitely natural surfactants that cleanse the hair as well without harsh chemicals. You can also clarify with clay, not a surfactant but definitely a clarifier and all natural!
I think what a lot of naturals don't understand is that there is a science to hair. And alternative cleansing methods (imo) aren't meant to completely replace the standard shampoo. I was constantly cowashing my hair every week making my hair build up with silicones on top of silicones. My hair doesn’t accept leave in conditioners, moisturizers, or even hair gel. I have been so frustrated and started thinking about big chopping my hair especially because I JUST overcame most of my heat damage. Now I’m starting to think I should try a clarifying shampoo instead of chopping it all off.
@@cfoster6804 I decided not to big chop it. I’ve just been a lot better about washing it. Not as often, and I don’t cowash anymore. I can’t afford to get the healthiest products that don’t have silicones. I have invested in SOME better ones that don’t, but I still use some products that have silicones to stretch it and my products can last. Because of this, I am sure to do a vinegar rinse before washing my hair each time. It’s definitely grown since two years ago, but it’s not where I want it yet. Stretched, it’s to the middle of my back, and I’m pretty sure I haven’t straightened it since this comment either. I used to do a lot of protective styling, crocheted box braids for school bc of the fact that my hair would hardly respond to gel, but it’s been over a year now since I’ve been I school, and I haven’t gotten my hair done since. I just put it in twists and put on my wig when I go out. At one point I was doing protein treatments, bc I thought I was experiencing hygral fatigue or moisture overload for cowashing it so much. Now, I think I’ve done it too much and I’m trying to put moisture back in it now, doing deep conditionings every once in a while and trying to put more product in. Thereafter, I replenish moisture. Afterwards, my moisture retention is on fleek. Itchy scalp is minimal, depending on the products I use.
So glad you addressed the run off method. I would feel guilty because I needed shampoo on the length of my hair lol. Leaving old product on doesn't allow my hair to accept moisture and my styling products properly.

Hey AfricanHairGod, loved the video. I personally am a little baffled at the anti-shampoo movement because shampooing my hair leaves it clean and my hair boinchy. I have 4c hair and I use Aussie Miracle Shine Shampoo as it leaves my hair extremely soft, moisturised, and the comb goes straight through. Would be nice if you could do a product review on it 😊😊😊
Thank goodness for this video. When I started my natural hair journey I bought into all that anti shampoo rhetoric but have since reintroduced it back into my regimen. My hair has been thanking me ever since. It does truly help conditioners & moisturizers to do their jobs better. Not sure if you take video requests but...could you do a video on clay washes/masks. I've seen some people use it as a shampoo replacement, others as the "second" shampoo, also as a hair treatment post shampoo with & without a follow up deep conditioner. What do you think?
I wholeheartedly agree with you. I went natural 3 years ago and I'm going to what works for me. I'm going to pick up my trusty claritying shampoo by Tresemme tahday! Other than that i use the LOC method. After i get through my stock plie, I'm going to try water and grease. That's what grew my hair as a little girl so uh...why should that change? I'm subscribing.
Excellent video. Every time one uses a clarifying shampoo one must follow up with a moisturizing shampoo and deep conditioner to restore moisture. Sometimes we make things more difficult for ourselves. We all should just follow what works for us.
I find that clarifying once every 7 to 10 days is the best for me. Idk if it's excessive, but my scalp starts to itch after a week, and if I wait any longer than that I'm reaching up to scratch every few moments. Co-washing is only good for re-moisturizing my hair during the week now that I've been natural for a few years. It's not cleansing enough, otherwise.
doThatGWalk I was going to asked about clay/muds as well. But I wasn't sure if they were considered clarifying enough. I have no problem with using clarifying/moisturizing shampoos though.
Not trying to be rude but what's the point of a video about Coconut oil? if it works for you and leaves your hair soft and manageable just USE it. But if it doesn't, and leaves your hair dry, crunchy, hard to manage don't use it. For me coconut oil doesn't work. When I use avocado oil my hair is very soft. You don't need a video just try it a few day and you'll see
loxena their is no point, just her being petty. Because she thinks the reason people don't like coconut oil is because naptural85 not because it actually doesn't work.
I mainly use a moisturizing shampoo because I don't go heavy on the products. But there are times when my curls are not laying right and that's when I know it's time to reset with a clarifying shampoo.
Glad someone finally mention proper way wash hair. I wish I would call myself letting the run-off water cleanse my highly textured hair lol. What started the no shampoo phaze was back when the only shampoo choices were commercial brands like Gardiner Fruitus, Pantene, Sauve, etc. Only natural brands that were popular were Shea Moisture and Carol's Daughter. Now with all these natural brands out and readily available such as Camille Rose, Blissful Curls, Mielle Organics, Mane Choice, etc. is out, I don't understand the logic of still only doing cowashing only washing, when there are now plenty of shampoos that cater to natural hair. Since only non natural product I use is Eco Styler, I find that using Shea Moisture JBCO Shampoo weekly is enough for me.
Hello AHG, I was wondering if you could make a video on your opinion on clay masks/washes for natural hair? I want to know if you've ever tried it or if it's worth it.
Great video! I do both - shampoo and co-wash. When I do shampoo, I use a moisturizing shampoo to avoid that stripped feeling. Easy fix - when I clarify, I am sure to use a deep conditioner as well as a leave-in afterwards. But yeah you're right, if you have a lot of product in your hair, you gotta wash that out. Good, solid info!
Thank you, for the clarification. I was using a "cleansing conditioner" for a several years and I began to scalp issues. I did note that my hair length retension did decrease. I recently, returned to shampooing hair and using a clafiying shampoo every 2-3 weeks.
I don't shampoo my hair frequently but my hair stylist tells me to shampoo it every two weeks. Since I have relaxed hair I usually wash my hair after I don't want to wear my bangs any more because I don't put heat on my hair myself. I always let it air dry so I have to wear different styles. I got my hair relaxed 12 weeks ago and my hairs grown over 2 inches and there is so much build up on my hair when I put moisturizer in my hair my hands are coated in dark buildup, my pick too. I guess that's a sign I should wash my hair. I recently got a shampoo and deep conditioner that I like. My main reason for not washing my hair is because it doesn't moisturize the same way after I wash it. I could put the same products on it and it will just be...dry even though now it's the exact opposite of dry. Granted I've changed how I moisturize my hair so it might actually work on my post washed hair. I plan on getting my hair relaxed again in 12 weeks, so a total of 24 weeks, so I'm gonna end up washing my hair. I think I should get a clarifying shampoo
Thank you very much for your professional demeanor, straightforward and to the point advice. Being one of my main sources, my hair went from a big chop ( totally shaved ) to about the same length as yours at about the same time. It's grest watching my new growth be so healthy & long. TFS.
Thank you so much because and some naturals out here only wash their scalp and not their hair. I can never understand that because if you're putting all these oils, butters, and gels on your hair how can you not scrub it a little bit? You need a little agitation to actually get the dirt particles to remove itself from the hair shaft.
This was right on time! I've been washing my hair much more regularly and have loved my results. I've been meaning to do more research about types of shampoos and which one I should be using. Thank you so much for your professional knowledge and taking the time to inform.
I tried the "use d shampoo for scalp and let it run down d length of d hair" and my hair felt greasy and still dirty. I read somewhere that we are washing our hair wrong and need to use d conditioner before d shampoo; I tried it once and my hair felt soft bt greasy and I still felt like it wasnt so clean as opposed to if I used d shampoo first. I'm soo glad u made this video cause there are alot of misconceptions going around
Thanks for this video. I always use shampoo and apply it to the length of my hair, but I was always on the hunt for a new shampoo because I always felt that the clingy feeling my hair had was not normal.
stbell1978 that clingy feeling is a sign that there is literally nothing on your hair (squeaky clean, where you can hear your hair Squeak if you run your fingers down the length of it). Most moisture shampoos are made to not leave your hair so clingy afterwards by coating the hair and smoothing the surface.
I don't understand how folks can use conditioner instead of shampoo completely that's nasty to me. Conditioner ain't gonna cleanse your scalp thoroughly. And to think some people only 'wash' their hair with water Smh I bet their hair smell like feet.
kimberly townsend I know "Wen" shampoo, which I was going to try because it looked really good, got sued for having their shampoo be conditioner. I think it broke the hair and just kept creating build up. There's a whole article about it
My hair requires cleans with real shampoo at least every two weeks, but best weekly. I don't use much styling product and those I use are lightweight, but I get build up so easily my conditioner won't penetrate without it.
Sarah Starr If you are using shampoo there is no need to avoid silicones. People on the curly girl method avoid them because they are difficult to remove without shampooing.
Hi! Im new to the CGM and I've been consistently washing my hair with sulfate free shampoo's and cowashing, piling on conditoners etc. I was wondering why my scalp felt so ITCHY. Why don't people adress this!!! UGH. Thankyou for this video! xx
I've been washing my hair every week with a moisturizing shampoo (shea moisture JBCO and ACV shampoo) because my hair has always flaked up on the scalp easily. I havent really been putting oil on it much for the past year because I heard it can add to the build up and I do kind of notice it on weeks when I use it. I tried using regular shampoo (Aussi moist) a few weeks ago but nothing changed; it flaked up just as fast. I guess I'll give a clarifying shampoo a try to see if that helps that issue. I know you mentioned else where that washing your hair too much can also cause dry flaky scalp..could that be the issue? How much is too much for somene? I just don't know anymore..
More likely your scalp does not like the products youve chosen so far. Drink lots of water and also do an antifungal shampoo. It will help. Note there are 2 different antifungals so choose the one that matches your scalp concern.
In the summer months I normally do protective styling with braids, cornrows etc. but this year I wanna change things up and get a weave. Can you do an informative vlog about that? I'm in process of determining style i want and plan to get hair next week. My dilemma is there's SO MUCH HAIR to choose from what do I choose? I know I want human because I'll be in & out pool this summer also I heard about full closure vs partial closure WTH? Anywho hope you can give me some insight THANKS!
Hello Sir, I just wanted to ask about Conditioner. After shampooing and applying conditioner my hair looks silky but feels wiry. Can you maybe suggest why. Thank you for your time.
I used kinky curly come clean to clarify my hair 2 days ago and followed with neutrogena triple moisture mask for 30 min with heat and my hair is still dry. Does that mean the shampoo is too strong for my fine and thin hair or the conditioner is just crap? I think the latter lol
I'm sort of forced to use a clarifying shampoo bc I have very bad eczema and if I don't use my treatment system then I'll get cradle cap smh But I like my nioxin bc my hair doesn't feel all that bad after I use it.
If anyone on here can help me out I would appreciate it but my baby’s father never really washes his hair like at all and he has so much product built up it’s gross and his hair just lays down flat at this point he can’t even do anything with it and I don’t even know how long ago he washed his hair forreal just wondering the best way to clean up so much build up and detangle it properly ??
could you do something like this with cowashes? mostly debunking or proving that they're as effective as regular wash regimes and under what circumstances a person should cowash.
Have a tendency to dry hair. Need to watch your moisture regime. Also these products are not comptabile with other chemical such as color and relaxer. So be careful if you ever switch. Moisturize.

I went through the "no Shampoo" phase. One of the worst things I ever done to my natural hair. Shampoo is a must for my hair.
@AfrikanHairGod How do you feel about using African Black Soap as an alternative for clarifying/deep cleansing shampoos?
Kenisha White And clay masks too, are they clarifying?
doThatGWalk I was going to asked about clay/muds as well. But I wasn't sure if they were considered clarifying enough.
I have no problem with using clarifying/moisturizing shampoos though.
Kenisha White good question. I really want to know this!
Clay mask and African black soap can be used to clarify
Kenisha White the only question that truly matters is: does it get your hair clean? If the answer is yes then that's all that matters.
Please do a video on coconut oil and the new anti coconut oil trend. Also do a video on hair vitamins.
I would really like this too. I'm transitioning and the information about coconut oil is so confusing.
Beautydivine Yes please!
Beautydivine oh shut up.
I remember back in the day I ran out of shampoo and used JOY dish washing liquid. lol that was the worst.
Lonnie 1Love lol, me too and used it to take a bath, we didn't have Mr. Bubbles
cakegirllove lol
Lonnie 1Love I used a bar of soap once to wash my hair. I ran out of the medicated stuff and my scalp itched. I needed to get it clean.
Justine Horton lol hope it was DOVE
Nope, Irish spring. But I had a deep conditioner.
I mainly use a moisturizing shampoo because I don't go heavy on the products. But there are times when my curls are not laying right and that's when I know it's time to reset with a clarifying shampoo.
I'll tell you where hating shampoos came from, those wen infomercials from the early 2000s. That was when I was first introduced to cowashing..
I like shampoo too and felt left out since so many natural do not like it but I'm a fan and use moisturizing shampoo. Right on brotha !!!✊ Lol
Diva Wuan thanks for the tips! I'll try the JCBO. Hope I can find it over here (NL)
Great informative video ! Thank you. There is so much misconception about shampoo. I never understood it.
psr076 thank you! And yes there are.
Ive been watching you forever. You are good.
This was right on time! I've been washing my hair much more regularly and have loved my results. I've been meaning to do more research about types of shampoos and which one I should be using. Thank you so much for your professional knowledge and taking the time to inform.
I don't have a problem using clarifying shampoos. But definitely not more than every 3
-4 months.
Also when we use a clarifying shampoo are we to follow up with moisture shampoo
no use a deep conditioner
I tried the "use d shampoo for scalp and let it run down d length of d hair" and my hair felt greasy and still dirty. I read somewhere that we are washing our hair wrong and need to use d conditioner before d shampoo; I tried it once and my hair felt soft bt greasy and I still felt like it wasnt so clean as opposed to if I used d shampoo first. I'm soo glad u made this video cause there are alot of misconceptions going around
So informative and spoke in terms everyone can understand and relate too. Thank you for that!!
Definitely learned something! Would you recommend or discourage naturals (kinkier textures) to wash their hair in twists/plaits?
Very helpful !!!! Im washing my hair wrong....
You comparison with the way we wash our body LOL... so good
I love the info!! It helps me understand more about products and my hair.
I agree, you need to cleanse your scalp and your hair. Thanks for addressing that.
Great information. I have to be honest; although I have nothing against shampoo, I do co-wash much more often than I shampoo. tfs
There's a whole article about it
Can you clarify a week after a relaxer? Do clarifying shampoos cause relaxed hair to revert???
Great information
DiscoveringNatural hey sola 👋🏿
Thanks to narda, I now shampoo weekly
Love you man
The shampoo phobia started from the detail of sulfate making your hair dry.
NySpice Analucia but it doesn't though...
AfrikanHairGod Why are people lying to me?!?
Thank you for clearing up all the idiosyncrasies...hope I spelled that right.
Thank you for being so descriptive!
Thanks for the informative video. I always learn something from it. Love from Brooklyn.
Thank you for this video some people from my hair store should watch this. One person said I don't use shampoo 😳
My hair requires cleans with real shampoo at least every two weeks, but best weekly. I don't use much styling product and those I use are lightweight, but I get build up so easily my conditioner won't penetrate without it.
Thank you for the information. I learned so much
Yes, thank you teacher .
THANKS FOR BREAKING THAT DOWN.
MsRouge2000 you're welcome thank you for watching!
Awesome video! So next, what about silicones in a conditioner or a deep conditioner...should we avoid?
Sarah Starr if it works for you, use it.
UGH. Thankyou for this video! xx
Very very informative video. TFS. 🙌🏾🙌🏾
I knew that shampoo run off shit was stupid.. lol thanks
Thanks or teaching me the difference between shampoos.
Note there are 2 different antifungals so choose the one that matches your scalp concern.
very well said and informative!
Great video thank you so much did you have any recommendation of clarify shampoo brands
Sherrina White I'll be talking about that in the follow up video
thank you very much will be looking forward to that video
In the summer months I normally do protective styling with braids, cornrows etc. but this year I wanna change things up and get a weave. Can you do an informative vlog about that? I'm in process of determining style i want and plan to get hair next week. My dilemma is there's SO MUCH HAIR to choose from what do I choose? I know I want human because I'll be in & out pool this summer also I heard about full closure vs partial closure WTH? Anywho hope you can give me some insight THANKS!
Desiree M to be honest I'm probably not the guy you want to speak to about weaves and sew ins
💖💖💖 ur VIDS!!! Thanks for sharing the knowledge I 💗 it!!
😉👍
low porosity and fine hair. i need to clarify 2 to 3 a month. and my hair thrives.
I think some naturals take it too far. This intern just ends up damaging the hair.😒
Great video, well said.
Can you do a video on Ph balance?
If you don't spill the truth! I can co-wash just fine, but about once a month I need to cleanse with a real live shampoo, especially in the summer.
Really needed this video thanks! 😁
LMAOOO "if you have dandruff, i need you to get a medicate shampoo and take care of THAT situation" i hollered. so stank! i love it
Hello Sir, I just wanted to ask about Conditioner. After shampooing and applying conditioner my hair looks silky but feels wiry. Can you maybe suggest why. Thank you for your time.
Amazing top quality video.
Very informative. Thanks
M White you are welcome thank you for watching!
I used kinky curly come clean to clarify my hair 2 days ago and followed with neutrogena triple moisture mask for 30 min with heat and my hair is still dry. Does that mean the shampoo is too strong for my fine and thin hair or the conditioner is just crap? I think the latter lol
Shampoo allows my hair to absorb moisture
naturallymenow exactly!
What are your thoughts on clay washes?
could you do something like this with cowashes? mostly debunking or proving that they're as effective as regular wash regimes and under what circumstances a person should cowash.
wizard of odd I'll definitely consider it being that I've never used one on my hair. Thank you for the suggestion
Do you guys use Indian products? I've been wanting to try henna and Amla powder and would love your input thanks❤️
Have a tendency to dry hair. Need to watch your moisture regime. Also these products are not comptabile with other chemical such as color and relaxer. So be careful if you ever switch. Moisturize.
And it's cheaper big bottle my registered consultant told me and I like it fo two year's and they look good.
What's your shampoo regimen for people that work out 5 days a week?
