Today we are proud beyond words to bring back our hero, the voice that started our first ever Song Around The World, "Stand By Me, " many years ago on the streets in Santa Monica, CA. Roger Ridley inspired us from the very beginning, and his music continues to inspire as we share this with you 9 years and 95 Episodes later.
When I first met Roger, I had no idea we would collaborate on something that would reach so many people and help them feel more connected as a human race. Today we are growing the PFC family all over the world and thanks to Roger, all of you, and music everywhere, we can see that if we stand by each other everything is going to be alright. Turn up this classic medley of "Tears on My Pillow" and "You Send Me", the final PFC video featuring Roger Ridley, and for a moment find peace in your heart and in your world. Music is the Key.

Playing For Change (PFC) is a movement created to inspire and connect the world through music, born from the shared belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. The primary focus of PFC is to record and film musicians performing in their natural environments and combine their talents and cultural power in innovative videos called Songs Around The World. Creating these videos motivated PFC to form the Playing For Change Band-a tangible, traveling representation of its mission, featuring musicians met along their journey; and establish the Playing For Change Foundation-a separate 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to building music and art schools for children around the world. Through these efforts, Playing For Change aims to create hope and inspiration for the future of our planet.

A couple of months ago i heard him sing for the first time and i have heard him sing this song and his other songs hundreds of times. I then told my son to listen to him , he told me that do you know he past away in 2005, i did not know, i could not hold back my tears, Now every time i hear him i have tears in my eyes and now while writing this comment,. My dad passed away last year i was very close to him , i miss him every day. i know we all got to go one day , i wish i went before him so i dont feel this pain.

I love Rogers voice and soul, I got really sad when found that we died years ago. I made myself a dream true couple of weeks ago when flew from Costa Rica to Santa Monica CA to the place shown in the video. I got a few great pictures, I even sat just where he was playing and singing!!

I've followed Playing For Change from the beginning, and have spread the word as far and wide as I can. Somehow, I missed this clip until last night. It was great seeing Roger again, and I had to share it on Facebook, along with the following true story. I can tell you from the reaction I've gotten there that Roger still moves people.
"Many years ago I came upon a street musician on the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica, CA. I seem to recall being on my way to meet some friends and that I was running late. But, his voice was so powerful, and he had so much presence that I just had to stop and listen. "Just until the song's over" I told myself, because I wanted to drop some bread in his tip jar and I don't like walking in front of street musicians while they're playing. But that song ended, then another, and another...I finally tore myself away and went to meet whoever it was. A short time later, it was a beautiful Southern California day and I thought I'd take a motorcycle ride up the coast, maybe as far as Santa Barbara. I had no agenda. As I got close to Santa Monica, I decided to go sit on the promenade and have a cup of coffee before heading north. Almost immediately I heard that voice. I got my coffee and sat and listened until he took a break. I told him how great I thought he was, we chatted, he asked if I played, and soon I was sitting in with him. After that, I took the ride to Santa Monica several more times on the chance he was there; not to sit in, just to sit and listen, although I did sit in with him more often than not. Life rolled on the way it does, and that was that. Many times I thought about seeing if he was still there, but I never made it, and I eventually forgot all about it. Then one evening, years later, I was watching PBS. The description of a documentary called Playing For Change had caught my eye. And there on the screen was that man. His name was Roger Ridley, and he'd impressed a filmmaker enough that a worldwide movement grew out of watching him perform magic on the streets of Santa Monica, California for spare change. Another several years later and tonight I just discovered this-the final clip of Roger playing right there where I first saw him. You'll hear him say he's in the "joy business". Indeed he was..."
