      @@OXFOOT I have one on my 3rd gen.
      Was at the river packing up before a big storm.
      Took the guidelines out, and was about to put the awning away, when a huge wind gust came in and flipped the awning over, on top of my truck, and it took all my strength to get it back down, fighting the wind.
      Got it packed up quickly in the rain, and drove home 2 hours.
      When I got home the slotted aluminum that attaches to the L bracket was bent and the L brackets were bent into a V shape.
      Bent it all back to its original shape with a hammer and a flat head screwdriver.
      Good as new. For 100 bucks it's a no brainer, at least to get you by until you find something better.

    We've had Maxi Trac gear in Australia for years now and their gear has usually performed well. For budget gear it all holds up pretty well! I've used and owned a few of their products and I've always been happy. They even do budget suspension and lift kits which have a decent lifespan & better than stock ride.

    • @OXFOOT
      @OXFOOT  3 года назад +2

      Yeah I thought I had seen some stuff about it on some Australian offroad channels before. In my research it looks like NAPA (not sure if y’all have that) either bought them or at least licensed them out over here in the states. Not exactly sure how it worked. In preparation for this video I watched a lot of aussies talk about some of the stuff but I don’t know that everything we get is exactly the same or if the products I watched were old discontinued stuff. It seems like there is more stuff that we aren’t getting in the US.

    • @OXFOOT
      @OXFOOT  3 года назад +1

      That’s wild that they do lift kits though. Maybe one day we will see that in the states, but we have very different vehicles from you guys. The Isuzus and the diesel Land cruisers I’m super jealous of.

    • @jamesscherer6168
      @jamesscherer6168 3 года назад

      Some of the gear seems to be the same, stuff like the awning and recover gear. For memory the Maxi Trac lift kits are sold at Repco (our version of your O'Reilly), and yeah for budget suspension they're probably one of the better brands. I had a set in one of my hilux's for about 3-4 years and never had a drama

    • @jamesscherer6168
      @jamesscherer6168 3 года назад +1

      Mate Landcruisers, Hilux's and the Isuzu's are pretty much the way of life down here. There are plenty of other 4wd's but I'd say these are the benchmark standard when it come to our 4wd's, they're just robust and reliable! Don't worry though the envy goes both ways, I've found myself looking at your Tundra's, Taco's and Ram's more than once 😉👌

      So many people have mentioned this. I was told that I should at least check it out for clothes if nothing else. I’ll check out the whole store and see what I can find!

      @@OXFOOT could also do a military surplus store too just as some ideas. I know not all of those have the same things, but plenty of good overland options if one is creative. I live off base & 1/3 of my overland gear is made up of gear I have from when I got out/around the house, 1/3 from Walmart, & last 1/3 from sports academy/Amazon. Think one of the things strongly over looked is community selling apps/pages like FB marketplace, offer up, & Craigslist.

    But where is this stuff made? I realize it's hard to find anything made in the US or Canada or other decent places these days but exploring the wilds of North America with bootleg equipment made in who knows where and sold by a massive corporation leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I really would rather save up for the more expensive local made stuff, even if it's not actually better.
    Edit: Apparently Maxi Trac is owned by BALKAMP which is an actual subsidiary of Genuine Parts Company, NAPA's parent, and is indeed an American company. I was suspicious because most of the all-caps random company names on Amazon are actually Chinese trademark pasta.

    • @OXFOOT
      @OXFOOT  3 года назад +1

      I think that the brand is owned by their parent company but I’m pretty sure it’s still made in China. My understanding is that it was a Chinese company that was sold in Australia but then NAPA bought it.

    • @OXFOOT

      I would much rather have American made stuff than anywhere else but most of these budget retail locations don’t really do that. I totally agree with what you’re saying though.

    This proves that you don't need expensive name brand stuff to go overlanding. You just pay for the name on those expensive brands which are mostly made in China.
