Great video - just one little tip. You don’t need to keep telling your audience “my 200 series cruiser”. Once is enough
Roger, noted. Thanks.
Remind me I need one. That a handful of a truck
Bahahaha I know it’s a year late…… but that was doing my head in too 😅😅
Haha brilliant
I've settled on the Nilight LED pods. I"m currently building out a portable ham radio station, and one of the things I'll be designing into the battery box will be outputs for a pair or 2 of those in the flood configuration, to be mounted on poles and/or under my dining canopy, which will double as the radio station. Solar charging combined with silence is sometimes preferable, as the cost of white gas has gone through the roof, and that's what all my lanterns use.
Another top vid mate. Your going to send me broke. Everyone loves a new light
Haha, I can't take responsibility for that!
Always fun buying a little more tech for the camp site.
Cheers mate.
Great setup. I go in the desert and having all the light possibilities and at different levels is great. I will for sure update my rig with some of your tips. Thx
Awesome, glad this could help. All the best with your setup 👍
Great overview on camp lighting and professionally delivered as usual
Those Arlec lights are very cleaver
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it!
Those Arlec's are great for camping and travelling.
Great video Nathan. It's not easy planning out lighting for camping. This is a great start for people.
Thanks mate 👍 This setup, although brands may change it still working well for my setup 👍
Will all that work on a 210 series Landcruiser too, or only the 200 series?
Great video. Very informative. Well done
Hard Korr do a fantastic Tri Colour LED strip which is perfect for keeping the bugs away at night. The orange light works perfect for keeping the insects away from your camp site while you use the lights.
Yeah, there's a few good products out there now. Definitely worth considering, just something I haven't upgraded to at this stage 👍
Great video on lighting. Got some good ideas on setting up on my 4x4.and or camper trailer. 🇦🇺👍🏼😎
Cheer mate, I'm glad this video helped out a bit.
Cheers, Nathan.
Those arlec lights are rad, stedi do a good competitor that have pretty strong magnets too, invaluable for engine bay work
Yeah awesome! I need to have a look into them! I do like the Stedi products.
Nice vid thx. Would be really keen to hear your thoughts on torches and head lamps.
Thanks mate, I'll definitely keep this in mind for a future episode.
Cheers, Nathan.
Great review Nathan. I’m using 4 adjustable light force rock 20, one on each corner of the roof rack which gives great camp light coverage without being over powering. In the tailgate I also have another 2 fitted to the corners of the front bar which are good for tight tracks in the dark.
In the tailgate I have a dual colour strip led light that works real well with the ability to be either white, red and orange.
The led lights on the underside are a cool idea.
Nice, sounds like you are sorted for lights! I like the sound of your setup, sounds similar with a few personal tweaks here and there.
Good idea with the colour adjustable LED strip, that can come in handy at some camps.
Nice work. As always.
Thanks mate, appreciate it!
Nice patrol mate 👍
Great video as usual mate. Just ordered the last Arlec 20W - they look really handy.
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it.
I reckon you'll be happy with them, they have worked well for me!
Great vid mate. Thanks
Thanks mate, appreciate the feedback 👍
Those lights in the wheel arch are an amazing solutions! Ooh and, compliments on the new haircut, looks tight! cheers mate 🤙
Thanks mate, love this setup I've got here. It's a combination of some of the best lights setups I've had in previous vehicles.
Cheers, Nathan.
@@XploringOz Hi Mate, sorry noob question. Im just new to all this. What are the advantages for a ROK9's under the wheelarches again? will they be affected if I do water crossings? They do look cool though!! Hope you can help me out. Thanks!!!
@@TheOpenCriticalmind Hey mate, glad you came across the channel and hopefully some of my videos might be able to help you out. So the rock lights serve two purposes for me, firstly I primarily use them for ambient camp lighting. They provide a nice soft light when you just need to see around camp. Secondly they are also great when night 4WD'ing. When stuck in technical situations, being able to see exactly where and what the wheels are driving over can be very helpful.
They are waterproof and should be just fine in all situations, provided they are installed correctly.
Don't get me wrong, these are awesome lights, but definitely not a necessity for a touring vehicle.
Cheers, Nathan.
@@XploringOz thanks!!!
Very professionally done. Thank you.
Thanks mate, appreciate that. Glad you enjoyed it.
Excellent video
Thanks mate, appreciate it
Great video mate!
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it.
Cheers, Nathan.
very informative i now have a better idea on what i want for my rig
Thanks mate, glad it could help.
Awesome tips. Love the video.
Cheers mate, thanks 👍
Great content cheers Frank Gardiner Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
Very informative video. Cheers
Cheers mate, glad you enjoyed it.
Nice video greeting from El Salvador 🇸🇻 👍
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it.
Cheers, Nathan.
rock lights or lights with no diffused lens just cause tons of glare and eye strain. nobody talks about glare, diffusion or amp draw. look at marine lights for better diffused lights that have low draw.
For sure, with any camping light, glare is often prominent with lights that aren't mounting directly above (like a standard room light). However, I haven't found glare to be an issue when out camping. Although there might be a little, particular from the Lightforce ROK9's, it hasn't been enough of an issue to ever cause a drama out on the road.
The only reason that I haven't commented on the amp draw is because all these lights draw so little power. I could leave all of my lights on for an extended period of time and it would make little difference to my battery situation. I guess each light has their own spec's for those who are interested in purchasing.
Very helpful thanks
Awesome mate, glad it was helpful!
Great Video - at at about 10.30 you mention the shadow caused by the A pillar. Any ideas how to avoid that with roof rack mounted lights?
I guess the only way to avoid this would be mount lights that protrude further out from the rack. I've actually recently fitted much brighter lights (in addition to the small ones) that don't have this issue. However these are designed for a driving situation, rather than a camping scenario.
Cheers.
GREAT INFO CHEERS
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it!
I love lights too, but every portable light I own has a good magnet - to attach anywhere on the car - even works through a side awning tent.
Nice, they are super handy as well. Personally I haven’t got any magnet lights only due to fear of scratching the paint. But glad it’s working for you 👍
Looks good! Bit overboard for me though (I try to keep things minimal). I’d like something permanent on the rear door of my Prado but haven’t worked out how best to do that yet.
Cheers mate, yeah everyone will have slightly different needs and requirements. This suits my setup quite well and suits a wide variety of circumstances.
There are soo many options on the market, it can be hard to choose what you think might work well for your setup.
Cheers, Nathan.
I really appreciate the effort you put in to share your knowledge and experience. It is very valuable 👍
@@DarrylLawson Thanks mate
Bro, you just dropped 10 grand on lights! You know BCF sell head torches for like $10 right? Gotta say I love the undercar ones though, just because they look sick.
Haha, not quite mate, but these fixed lights are super helpful 👍
Hey Nathan nice clip on lighting, just a question on the awning do you use the Brax quick release system if so can you pls comment
Thanks mate. So at the moment I am using a traditional style bolt on mount. I do plan on switching onto something a little more convenient in the future, just haven't decided on what just yet.
Cheers.
Great vid mate 👍 did you install the rock lights yourself?
Thanks mate, negative on the rock lights. These were installed by Ultimate 4WD Equipment in Western Australia when getting a lot of the electrical work completed at once.
Cheers, Nathan.
GOOD INFO WELL DONE :)
Cheers, thank mate.
in the Intro where I saw that girl and the baby walking next to some wall with the label Exploring at the bottom right, what place is that!? it looks dope :o
Hey, this is a place called Wave Rock in Hyden, Western Australia. Definitely a place worth visiting 👍
Thanks mate 👍🏻
No problem 👍
Shame the Arelec don't have a magnet attached?!🤔
Yes, this would make it even better again!
Thanks for the video. I had a side question regarding Techstream. Are you using it on win 10 or XP
Thanks mate. I'm actually using Windows 7. Apparently it works better with this. Further, I'm no IT guru and struggled to get this software to work. I actually ended up sending it to my brother-in-law (in the IT business) who got it working for me. Apologise I can't provide any more info on it.
@@XploringOz Thanks you told me what I needed, Apparently it works even better on Windows XP which I will set up on an old laptop. Windows 7 you can just get it to work but Windows 10 refuses to recognise what is called unsigned drivers. Thanks and you videos are excellent and factual.
@@zoezoe610 Good stuff, I hope you manage to get it working, I know I spend a few days frustrated trying to get it to work...
Thanks mate, appreciate it.
very informative. . . new subs here. . .watching from quezon city, philippines january 26, 2022 10:20PM
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed the video!
Cheers, Nathan.
Does anyone know what car he drives?
I don't like white lights when in camp as they attract all the bugs.
A little bit of yellow electrical tape over white lights, makes them yellow. Problem solved 👍
I am Egyptian and I like camping and going out to the land, but I do not have a car. Lord, give me a car
Thanks for watching mate. All the best with your adventures.
Hey mate what light is used in tailgate?
I sourced my light from a local guy in Perth, WA who makes builds these lights on the factory plastic. Send Brendan Bonser and message via his Facebook profile and he'll be able to help you out. facebook.com/bonza86
Cheers, Nathan.
Easy enough to make yourself too mate. Just get a Rocklight of some description and fit to the factory plastic
please do me a favour! and get that agm from out of your engine bay. buy a deep cycle next after that awesome full river finally dies after 20 years lol.
I think Lithium might be on the cards in the long run, but I'll have to wait for these to die first!
@@XploringOz Just remember, There is no lithium battery being produced by reputable battery company. That can be mounted in an engine bay. Some companies claim there’s can but god help those that believe it.
@@Burnyzassoff Yeah, this is another controversial topic. They're are a few people out there running lithium in engine bays without issues, but not many have been running them longer than a couple of years. Longevity would be the best test.
Rock lights have to be the biggest load of wank in the game.
Hmm, maybe.... but they can actually come in quite handy from time to time.
@@XploringOz how so? They look very Fast n Furious to me. Besides, anything mounted under the car is just going to get covered in mud anyway!
@@officialWWM Three scenario's I've found them helpful. 1st, as mentioned in the video, camping lights. They provide a subtle but useful ambient camp light. 2nd, off-roading at night. They can actually provide helpful light for spotters to guides you through and around obstacles, particularly on the rear wheels that have no downward facing lights. 3rd, mechanical work ie. changing a tyre, maybe CV joint, bearings at night. Very, very helpful for this purpose.
Even if they get covered in mud a simple wipe with a wet tissue or rag is all it takes to have them working again.
@@XploringOz Exactly, if you are doing tough tracks especially at night having the rock lights are invaluable for a spotter, or being able to check and repair tyres, cv's and suspension. If you dont even go off the bitumen then yes, they are a bit of a wank but dont discount their many real uses.
The autofocus on your camera made me nauseous.
Yeah, sorry about that. I didn't realise until I got home. Hopefully the content made up for it. Luckily I've had the opportunity to upgrade my gear since this video.
Cheers, Nathan.
