I really like the fact you can parry pretty much anything with the knife up until you need to repair it, and that everything looks like it requires different timing to get the parry.
To be fair the knife was always overpowered in RE4 but now they just make the gameplay more fluent. I would also argue that it’s less powerful now because it has durability and we can lose it and it takes up item slots. So it’s a item management thing now. I love it!!!
Fair point, though there may well be many occasions where Ashley is being carried off and we don't have a functional knife to use (given how it can be destroyed by a single fatality-avoiding application), or there could be a wall of enemies in the way, so we may still frequently find ourselves in the familiar OG territory of having to risk gunshots and such to free her. I would also make the case that while the knife method certainly makes things easier in one sense and less perilous for Ashley, it carries with it the strong potential of placing Leon at a severe tactical disadvantage as he now has his back to enemies and has given them time to swarm up behind him, so that he may well be met with an axe to the face the moment he turns around, or even buried in his back the millisecond the execution I-frames end.
While your analysis on the effect on decision making the new contextual attack on ashley carrying enemies is worth having, in my personal experience shooting them in the head while they were carrying ashley never even crossed my mind ever in my times playing RE4. Is it really high risk high reward? Like, do they instantly die if shot in the head while carrying Ashley? I did not know that, I would have imagined it would just be the same as any headshot, which sure has a critical chance, but during most of the game it's very small, and definitely not worth it in any way when you just want to get ashley down.
Maybe it's just me LOL I love going for headshots (especially with snipers and other weapons that reward it) when Ashley's being carried away. I totally see the value in your logic though - Begg
@@ResidenceofEvil2 It's practically custom for me to just shoot them from the chest down anywhere; I could head shot them once downed if I really wanted to. It's just high risk for something that would otherwise be only high reward in any other context lol.
Also, in the OG, if you get close enough to knife em you'd make sure to look down so as to not hit Ashley, at that point risk is non existent, so making a contextual attack for it in the remake doesn't really change much imo. It feels in the same vein as the new knife finishing attacks on downed ganados or crate breaking kicks; as in, something added to the moveset to contextualize and distinguish commonly produced knife waving situations in OG.
I like what you brought to light now for it to be a good thing we just have to hope fixing or finding new knives isnt a constant. Plus I hope they balance the grenades better. I felt I had too many at times in the OG unless I just did a good job at saving them idk
I always thought of Resident Evil 4 as a Tetris style puzzle game disguised as an infected crowd control simulator. I think it will be a challenge for the remake to create that same sense of splitsecond problem solving. It will take a lot of refinement and tight balancing of difficulty to get it there.
i know this may sound stupid but i wished the knife was infinite + all of the knife related actions being implemented together i'm hoping for two things : that the game has adequate amount of knives And being able to unlock the infinite knife (with the original design) i'm gonna be honest with you never liked the idea of the knife being breakable but having an infinite knife will compensate
I wasn't aware that the Ganados carrying Ashley away was even a game mechanic. Why would any player allow the enemy to get within arms length of the person you have been tasked to recover and protect? I'm very disappointed, and you all need to do better.

I really dont see a point of this video. High risk high reward? I doubt ganado will instantly die if you shoot him in head while holding Ashley. Also, when surrounded by 10 ganados it would be very frustrating to "make a decisions"for high reward. I dont see any problem with running and slitting his throat or just doing old school leg shoot
Also, the best way to add a risk vs. reward concept to this scenario would be to have Ashley take damage when dropped, as well as bullets that can pass through un-armored targets. Both of these concepts could put the player in a high stress/stakes moment.
Is my stance on the Resident Evil 4 Remake's knife justified, or is there something I'm overlooking? Let me know!
Like the punisher pass through the enemy and hit assly’s toes and its game over🤣

:) yes that's the big positive I see too

so far i'm loving the original's gameplay design much more honestly

:) I feel like i saved up grenades well, but I'd splurge on certain bosses for sure (definitely Mendez and sometimes the Gigantes).

💯
I think its an action game pretending to be a horror game.
100% agree.

Nothing is great about Breakable Knives...
The knife can break in this game, it’s not OP.
