another Great Video uploaded, Matts. Hats Off to the dudes out there giving away what many would consider secrets, by sharing info, so others have success and aren’t wasting time & resources. that’s what makes them one hell of a community…like-minded folks that wanna see others thrive, while enjoying the great outdoors. most folks around my parts (ATL area) do not want anyone to know where they’ve caught wall-hangin’-sized largemouth bass. I suppose it’s different, when your fishery isn’t finite in boundary & species population(s) can change on the daily, but hearing the advice & support shared by those wise in experience is very cool to me. I’d graciously trade a San Fran Bay fishing experience for a Georgia River Redeye Bass, Shoal Bass trip with Matts. I know a specific spot on the Flint River (in GA), where a Red-eyed Bass subspecies can only be found at. physical barriers have retained & aided them to thrive, with no overcrowding, nor high fishing pressure.
Nice boat! I have a 1990 Arima Sea Ranger. It’s been all over the country with me. We are now living in Georgia and I have not seen an Arima here for the last 8 years. I fish rivers and lakes here. But I’ve spent lots of time on the ocean in California and on the Great Lakes. Best boats there are for their size. Absolutely love my old girl. Keep making the great videos. Oh, bleed the fish you plan to keep to eat.
I don’t know what it is about you channel but I love watching your videos. I live in the east cost and don’t even fish or the fish you guys catch but again I just really enjoy watching you fish. Keep up the great content. 👍
I've been watching your solo camp and fish videos lately, they're so good! I'm about to try it for the first time soon with my pup. keep up the good content and I hope you and your family are doing well.
I'm a huge fan of spoons for kings. Most of the time I start with a cut plug herring on the downrigger with no flasher in the morning, in the afternoon I switch up to flasher spoon combo and has worked well for me for 20+ years of king fishing
Just ordered a FL shirt! Love the content. Been following you since back in the day day. ❤️🤙 from San Jose. I hope all your medical issues clear up once and for all!
Just thought of an excellent idea for a video you could do for all of us viewers. Over the years of watching your videos, I have learned a couple knots, but I still haven't got down a lot of them, however I now know what they are when I see them. Maybe put together a video of different knots with brief description of when to use them? Im sure can't be the only one 😆
Fish on!!! Hell yeah. I guess we might try the watermelon apex we have. I really didn't think it could be better than cable baiters. Thanks for the tips!!
Have you tried brads cut plugs for kings?there basicly a plastic spoon that you stuff with tuna or what ever you want they SLAY up here in washington and Oregon!!
Outstanding!!! Thanks for reminding us of the laws too! Question: I remember how sea sick you used to get so I must ask, are you using something like a patch of some sort of meds to combat the symptoms???
Hey Matt, just a suggestion since you're only running 1 down-rigger move it to the port side of boat. 1st it makes it easier to watch rods from the helm. 2nd fight and net fish on starboard side, down-rigger won't be in the way and you'll be close to the wheel for controlling the boat. You'll be able to leave down-rigger and line in water and possibly double up. Also cover or remove anything on gunwale of boat that the net can get hung up on. Noticed you struggle on a few vids with this when netting fish. Good Luck!
I’ve fished lakeside my entire life and at this point I don’t think I’ll ever change… like I’ve had chances to go deep sea fishing but there is something about being pulled/knocked off a boat and then dragged down that makes me nervous… like you’re about hundreds of feet of just empty space and that just feels weird.
never knew about the barbless thing when going for rock or hali when you have salmon on board, but good to know! They are checking around HMB, I got checked they pulled my line and looked at the hooks (I had pinched them) I suppose when Salmon are biting you could catch one on a shrimp fly or other rockfish rig, and when its undersized they wont get messed up in that case.
Yes Matts, lake/river boaters who cross riffles and things will tell you to speed up when going over rough water to stay above the waves and skip over the tops. It doesn't work in the ocean.
Good stuff! I noticed you don't like to use the downrigger hook for you downrigger ball? Its quicker than pulling the ball into the boat every fish and also allows you to swivel your downrigger forward to help have more unobstructed space when trying to land your fish. Good luck!
Actually looking closer that might be a line guide I'm seeing but you should look into if Cannon sells a hook as I use Scotty downriggers and use the hooks Scotty sells.
Love all your vids... live in Chicago.... fish the big pond for all salmonoid species..... we always use spoons.... in your sith.... try a big Doctor Spoon.... with a strip of belly meat, of your choice.....give it a shot.......never fished your area, but I guarantee, its new to the fish
Awesome day out there! Way to catch! I really enjoy videos when you have Daniel along. You guys are a couple real cool cats. Would love to meet you guys one day but I’m all the way across on the East Coast. Can you settle a question for me? Are you and philosophy D brothers?
It sucks you only got two salmon and a Ling (insert eye roll here). Anyway, I'm a big fan and I sure miss fishing in the Pacific near the Oregon-Cal boarder.
The reason they want you to pinch down barbs when you have salmon on board is to make sure you never use a barbed hook to get salmon. It’s basically to stop the few people who would otherwise use it as a loophole to fish salmon with barbs.
White Chinook meat occurs in something around 5% of the species here in pnw. They sell for a higher price but taste the same. I wonder if it is the same for the California run?
Mattz lemmie know if u wanna hit up the eastern sierra trout opener next Saturday. We’ll be at Silver Lake Resort from friday through tuesday. There’s a fold out couch for ya. Bring some avocados haha
Those was some very nice salmon. If you don't mind me asking. Where can I find the rod you said you had your friend make you? I would like to get a two. Until next time take care and God bless and think you.
Where I live we have 2 different Chinook salmon whites and reds the white Chinook will have a more pale meat in the ocean still reddish pinky colour but when the go up river their meat will go full on Snow White
What brand is that net, been looking around to buying one but the ones I've seen are way to big or to small. It would be for salmon too. Thank you if you answer me
I didn't read all the comments, but wanted to clarify, so no one gets a ticket. This happens quite often on youtube videos. People have salmon on board, and they start rockfishing. They almost 100% mention the barbless hooks but forget to mention if you use bait you have to use a barbless circle hook(s). I copied the Regs for clarification. (2) Barbless Hooks. No more than two (2) single point, single shank barbless hooks shall be used in the ocean north of Point Conception (34° 27’00” N. lat.) when salmon fishing or fishing from any boat or floating device with salmon on board. (3) Other Hook Restrictions. When fishing with bait in the ocean between 40°10’00” N. lat. (near Cape Mendocino) and Point Conception, if angling by any means other than trolling, then no more than two (2) single point, single shank, barbless circle hooks shall be used. The distance between the two hooks must not exceed five inches when measured from the top of the eye of the top hook to the inner base of the curve of the lower hook, and both hooks must be permanently tied in place (hard tied). A circle hook is defined as a hook with a generally circular shape, and a point which turns inwards, pointing directly to the shank at a 90-degree angle. Trolling is defined as angling from a boat or floating device that is making way by means of a source of power, other than drifting by means of the prevailing water current or weather conditions. See Section 28.65(g)
hey i’m treyvon from sacramento would love to go on a fishing trip with you one of these days love the content been watching for 4 years now keep the good content up!☺️
Meat coloration depends on the diet of the fish too. I know Tully Chinook have paler meat compared to regular Chinook meat. Due to the fact Tully Chinook can't really pass karetonids easily in their flesh. It's what I heard from some old man where I fish.
Just finished watching Outdoor Chefs life, and boom Fisherman’s Life notification pops up! It’s a great day today!
Same here
I call that a successful fishing day! Both of you caught keeper salmon!

You guys got a great salmon fishing community when you help each other get on the bite!
7:30 -- Trolling with a baitcaster reel... you're a maniac and I love it 😂
I have noticed more and more people using these, but I don't think they are normal bait casters.
Thank you Matt for all the knowledge you share with all fishermen. I appreciate it brother.
That looked like a fun day! nice hookups and letting the fish tell you what they want that day.
Does Daniel play baseball? The way he smack that salmon , sheeeeshhh🤣
You are the most laid-back fisherman I've ever seen. I find your videos very entertaing.
Love Matt and Daniel. If you’re into fishing on kayaks and spear fishing Rokkit is an awesome channel. Down to earth guy respectful fisherman
Yup.
Salmon fishing is FUN. Especially for Kings. Coho is good fun too. They like jumping. Cool to watch. Tasty too.

and you can't have any backup rods on the side (even if you are not using) with barb setup.

Quality content as always.
Wassup with those camping catch and cook videos. Those are 🔥
good job on the net!
Great video :)
Very Good Video 📹 👍
Good catch! Your netting technique scares me. Now, try a "Brads Cut Pug" for some big King fun.
King Salmon is high dollar, so I would call that a successful day!
It's a lot like the Luhr-Jensen Krocodile, my favorite all around lure.
Hi, are you going to ever go back to mountain trout fishing again? They seem like the most fun adventures.
Good stuff! I noticed you don't like to use the downrigger hook for you downrigger ball? Its quicker than pulling the ball into the boat every fish and also allows you to swivel your downrigger forward to help have more unobstructed space when trying to land your fish.

What about if you chum the waters with frozen chum blocks? Here in FL I do that all the time. Massive variety of fish come right up to the boat.
Dang. You fixed that title quick! Lmao
I love your videos 😁 hi from quebec👋

Fishing blind trolling without a fish hawk. Temp and speed at the ball is big help .
How do I chose the right suv to tow a boat if I’m not picky
Jellyfish catch and cook? 👀👀🤣

been pinching down barbs on all my hooks for years might lose a few but far easier to remove
How much was that boat Matt? Curious to know
