A wool stapler buys and sorts wool before selling to a wholesaler and a corn factor is a corn wholesaler. What a great cemetery. The family plot with the marble effigy was amazing.
3:53 Apparently, a Wool Stapler is a dealer in wool / a person who sorts wool, according to the staple or fiber. Always interesting to see professions on these beautiful old stones!
Cremation for me also! No way will I be buried . I just love your videos, fabulous ! I used to go to old cemeteries and walk about, reading headstones! Peaceful & ever so interesting. This is relaxing for me,I would love to be there seeing this in person. Thanks for taking us on these ¨dead good walks". 💀☠
Beautiful monuments...enjoy seeing them. Precious love spent in forever memory of the deceased. The soot gives such an eery look to some of them. Different and spooky. Love seeing them, thank you!!!😊😊💖
Hey there love watching your video so interesting and mind lifting knowing all the people there once walked the earth like what we do thanks for sharing ❤
Not in the United States. This isn't the middle aged. In the United States caskets are put in heavy cement vaults before being put in the ground. I have no problem with cremation. I just prefer being buried. Plots are owned in the United States, not rented. By the way. I really love your site. It's very interesting!!! Glad I found you!!☺️☺️☺️
They do that in the USA because of the water tables apparently to stop the caskets rising and floating if it floods. Some of the cemeteries in America are in poor condition
I didn't know that "Bloody" was considered a swear word in England.😊 The stone with lady with elbow on books could represent a scholar, or can symbolize the good deeds of the departed, as recorded in the book of life. I so enjoy your walks and information from cemeteries!❤ That dump is so very, very sad!😢
The origins of the term “Bloody” are supposedly that it is an invocation of the Virgin Mary by compressing the expression “By our lady”. Given the things which people routinely say nowadays, it is the legacy of an era far more deferential than our own.
Bloody can be worded differently, and it's not all about Christ. You don't just say "bloody" it might be Bloody Hell or Bloody Brilliant etc. I prefer the word "bugger" I got told off more for that as a kid 🤣
Thank you for the walk. I really enjoy watching your videos and seeing how beautiful these cemeteries are. All the overgrowth in some areas, doesn't even make it look messy and unkept, I personally think it adds to the beauty. Where I'm from, though the cemeteries are well manicured, they just aren't as beautiful, and I mean no disrespect by saying this.
a corn factor was a man who dealt in corn.....in those days, "corn" was any grain. a wool stapler was a person who graded wool, and sold it. always interesting! rest in peace, mom and baby.
It's amazing to see these types of monuments. In the USA, these types of monuments are few and in between. Especially the further south you get. I guess families wanted to let other people know how important they were when in fact, (in the grand scheme of things) who they were and what they achieved is not important. It's what they learned and did for others spiritually.
Totally agree that this was ABSOLUTELY disrespectful what was done in that part of cemetery with the destroyed headstones with everything dug up there including the newer headstone as well being destroyed and dug up! A good reason here to get cremated here as opposed to being buried only for some disrespectful jerks to come and destroy, dig up and disrespect your grave.
I don't blame you for wanting to be cremated. Cemeteries are shady when it comes to dumping bodies and digging up old graves to make room for new corpses. If I end up being cremated, I want my family to fill me with popcorn kernels first, that way the cremation guys get a little surprise and a laugh.😂😂
There is a cemetery in Western Australia currently doing this. The actual graves are not being removed but all trace above ground is being moved and there will be new burials in between plots. Some of the headstones are being smashed in the process. Disgraceful and disrespectful for all concerned.
Recently within the last month 190 decomposing bodies were found in an abandoned funeral home; south of Colorado Springs, Colorado in a small town called Penrose!!! 🤢🤮
You know what I think, kind sir? I think you should invest in a decent handheld scanner, like an Einstar, and scan and create some beautiful 3-D models of some of these more spectacular grave markers which you could then share with your subs for a small donation or cup of coffee/tea. It would be cool to use my 3-d printers to print out some of the more ornate ones just for the fun of it, especially around Halloween.
I am being cremated and I am not having an obituary or a funeral .funerals are for the living save your money . I will be where I need to be with my mom and dad and sister who died
I try to research the cemeteries you visit when I can. I was reading the newsletter for this cemetery and the volunteers have been working very hard to restore the graves and clear the undergrowth. I dare say the pile has something to do with that.
Who is setting off fireworks during the day like that? What a waste of money 😂 As an aside, I have been to Bradford many times for a music festival (since 2006 to 2015) and it was only after the last time we were up there that I discovered that Undercliffe existed!!! I will def pay it a visit next time ☺ thanks for the video, Dan!
Wish headstones of today looked and were crafted as they were back then. However family passes and in reality the person is forgotten, therefore, i can not justify a burial today. Between that and the prices charged, it in my opinion is a huge waste of money. Cremation with ashes returned to nature is my idea. However i do enjoy these visit with Dan thru these cemeteries. Thanks for taking us along Dan.
The cemeteries there in the UK look so much nicer and beautiful than the cemeteries here in the states like many other things between the UK and states. Many of things here in the states look plain and ugly compared to what is in the UK.
I was brought up in England as a child. As kids, my brother and I would go to the old cemeteries and walk around. Fascinated by the old tombstones and how beautiful they were. You are right. Many really old things in England, houses, cemeteries etc. are hundreds of years old and still are exquisite and beautiful. Where as here in the US , we either tear it down or they look derelict and ugly.
Just a pity we will never know how all these people looked like, and what they were like in real life. A stone is all thats left. Thats it. When we are gone, its the same for us. Just a stone, standng against the withering of time....
Where I'm from your lease on the plot is 75 years and if no one can renew the lease they take it back and move the remains to a communal plot. Shame there are no longer freehold.
In an age which welcomes me to my gas bill, perhaps I should not be too disturbed when someone welcomes me to a cemetery. For the time being at least, I think I shall be content to tiptoe around the domain of the dead, feeling like an intruder.
My husband and I have chosen cremation. Why pay such prices for a big funeral? They are vey expensive. I see nothing wrong with this. The Bible says, ashes to ashes, dust to dust. I am a Christian.
Recycling a grave should be illegal. I believe most people have no idea it can happen. Families put out thousands of dollars for burial plot, yet they dont realize, they are simply renting the space. I lucked out finding my grandfather, who died before i was born, but buried by state in cemetery where most graves are unmarked. Im sure after 80 years of his grave being unmarked, it would have been recycled. Next to him, a baby no name, date, dont even know the gender. I purchased a headstone for Baby too. I know Baby died late 1800 or very early 1900s. The parent(s) may not have had money to bury their baby, but they could have at least given Baby a name, or very least their last name. Under the headstone i placed a teddy bear and gold heart. Every baby needs a teddy bear of their own. In same cemetery there are four other babies in unmarked graves from around same time, but in cemetery registry they have last names of families, sadly therefore i can not get them headstones. Any unmarked, forgotten grave is sad, but a baby is heartbreaking. Im happy Baby is buried next to my grandfather, i have faith he is caring for Baby today in heaven.
Whilst on holiday I visited a grave in Havana which had lots of pregnant women around it. Legend has it that it was the grave of a woman who died in pregnancy. When she had to be exhumed and buried in the new cemetery she was found to be holding a baby in her arms. Great reverence was given to her grave and the pregnant women were not allowed to them round when leaving the grave so walked backwards. It was interesting but very strange. When we left the cemetery we were also all searched for human bones in case we would use them in a voodoo ceremony
I love walking round cemeteries so peaceful and calm and in their own way beautiful

Thanks for the information.
That monument of the mother and baby is awesome. So many beautiful monuments and headstones.
It’s interesting they have their occupation on the grave stone ,,that is awesome
Ooh the grave with the mother and baby broke my heart ,it was beautiful
Thanks, Dan, for another great tour. Love the old Victorian cemeteries, so thank you so much for sharing.
Cremation for me also! No way will I be buried . I just love your videos, fabulous ! I used to go to old cemeteries and walk about, reading headstones! Peaceful & ever so interesting. At 14:00 in video. Baby died in 1859. Also had a son born one year earlier but who died at age 23. Still a loving family
memorial.
THIS IS AN AMAZING CEMETERY
I've been there a few times & also visited the grave of the mum & child. A beautiful place to visit.
Those are very old... 1800.. beautiful marble... carvings....
Once again, Thanks for bringing us along. You do all the work, we just sit n enjoy🙂🕊
Beautiful monuments...enjoy seeing them. Precious love spent in forever memory of the deceased. The soot gives such an eery look to some of them. Different and spooky. Love seeing them, thank you!!!😊😊💖

Great cemetery! Very good walk! Thanks!😎
I like your walks throughout the cemetery... kinda peaceful.😊

Absolutely stunning cemetery Dan.
Sorry i missed your Premiere.

That dump is so very, very sad!😢
Oh my goodness! When I was young, "bloody" was considered extremely offensive indeed.. say it and you got a hard slap.
The origins of the term “Bloody” are supposedly that it is an invocation of the Virgin Mary by compressing the expression “By our lady”. Given the things which people routinely say nowadays, it is the legacy of an era far more deferential than our own.
Yes, bloody is/was a sacrilegious reference to the blood of Christ, so i have been told. Might have a reference to the crucifixion as well.
Bloody can be worded differently, and it's not all about Christ. You don't just say "bloody" it might be Bloody Hell or Bloody Brilliant etc. I prefer the word "bugger" I got told off more for that as a kid 🤣
This cemetery is much better than Edinburgh one and more comfortable for you. Thank you taking us on exploring journey
I love your videos thank you so much, you are wonderful
Dan: "What else is in here?"
Me: Looking at that pile of dirt and debris, I'm inclined to wonder *who's* in there. 😬
Thank you for the walk. I really enjoy watching your videos and seeing how beautiful these cemeteries are. 🥺 a mother’s love is forever 💞
Fascinating as usual
Some impressive graves there
Excellent channel.
The traumas of Victorian childbirth.
This is my local cemetery.
Would be great to meet up if you are around here again. 👍🏾

@@deadgoodwalks Awsome. Keep in touch.
Thanks..!! I loved.. 🩷
the mother with baby is a WOW scene!
Hi Dan nice video. Have you ever visited The Rock Cemetery in Nottingham. I think you’d love it . Lots of history and catacombs etc
That was very interesting ,
Thank you 😊

If you are ever in Scarborough you should visit Manor Road and Dean Road Cemeteries. Loads of old graves and lots of war graves

And they can all sing Pop Goes The Weasel! A most lively funeral fo'sho!😂😂😂✌
I'm getting cremated I'm scared of being buried alive
You must get a patent on that idea! Can picture everyone taking cover thinking shots were being fired😂. One way to be remembered
Recently within the last month 190 decomposing bodies were found in an abandoned funeral home; south of Colorado Springs, Colorado in a small town called Penrose!!! 🤢🤮
Thanx so much Dan I enjoyed that

one that deals in wool. especially : one that buys raw wool and sorts it before selling to a manufacturer/that is a wool stapler
I'm getting cremated as cremation in the uk starts at £1500 it's cheaper than a full funeral love this cemetery walk Dan
£800 in scotland for cremation
Oh that is awesome and still so sad at the same time
So sad to see all the stones and headstones dumped in a big pile. Thats so sad.
How beautiful

What is an “owner”??
Arnt the little tomb stones that say owner just the owners of the plot? Suggests they didn't have the funding or the family for a proper head stone
If the family is replacing a stone then the cemetery is free to dispose of the old stone as thay see fit.
Dan have you visited Elizabeth 1 tomb?
If you can can you go to the one in Lockwood Huddersfield that's were my parents are buried and most of my family.
You should visit the western cemetery in Hull
On the list :)
❤❤❤

I find it strange how some of the cemetery is mowed and looked after and then you have headstones fallen over, destroyed and overgrowth and forgotten.
How did they die
Sometimes headstones were discarded and replaced because of an error in the inscription. Just a thought.
Neoclassic is a good description
What is the oldest cemetery in England? Where I live we don’t have elaborate stones like this.
Depends how you define it, with legible head stones or just markers? There's people buried at stone henge for example
A 'factor' in this case is, I believe, a merchant. So John Clauderay would have been a corn or grain merchant.
As you walk , and show us an overview , it actually looks like a skyline of an odd City.... a real city..
Just a pity we will never know how all these people looked like, and what they were like in real life. A stone is all thats left. Thats it. When we are gone, its the same for us. Just a stone, standng against the withering of time....

What are those tiny head stones ?
Owner graves/plot markers
Dying in Germany is expensive you pay for a normal grave 3000 euro so I gone do nothing at all for myself
It’s Beaton track
My husband and I have chosen cremation. Why pay such prices for a big funeral? They are vey expensive. I see nothing wrong with this. The Bible says, ashes to ashes, dust to dust. I am a Christian.
Add some fog and its a Hammer film

Im so mad that cemetery was dug up how disrespectful

What!!!!!
I saw that grave and heard the same story as well on a tour of Havana, years ago! I had forgotten about it.
There must be a lot of mosquitoes.
Jungle cemitery
Odd... to make a monument as a facade. Looks grand from the front but reveals how poor from the true size revealed from the side & back!!🤣😂🤣😂.
A dealer in wool.
Absolute disgrace Bradford. Dumping gravestones on the garbage.
I would love to buy a small cemetery and fix it up and keep it up
It doesn’t look good to hav that so close to the graves
Rather disrespectful within as to why I do not know, do you know
God does NOT appreciate cremation. It’s there in the bible.
