      Hi Mary!
      On Thanksgiving I went to your website via Google after looking up how to make turkey bone broth. My husband was doing the entire dinner, because I broke my leg.
      I said we should make a broth, which Hubs had never done. Your recipe was easy and we enjoyed the turkey noodle soup he made with it very much!
      Thank you!

    "This is my cook's treat." When you said that, I had a recollection of my sweet mother. In our family of 7 (5 children), whenever mom fried a chicken, she would call out "cook's privilege'" and select the chicken back and one wing for herself. After dad selected his piece of fried chicken, then we children could select. I have happy memories of her exclaiming how delicious it tasted. We all followed suit and echoed her sentiments as we enjoyed our portions. As young married wife, I called out 'cook's privilege' over the plate of fried chicken I had just made. I selected the back and the wing. With great expectation, I bit into the chicken back expecting something marvelous and was shocked at the bony, fairly meatless disappointment. It was then I realized what a wonderful actress my mother had been all those years and her sacrificial love. Working so hard to put her delicious fried chicken on the table and all the while selecting the lesser pieces for herself. Thank you Mary! I enjoyed your video very much... excellent information, as always. 😍

    I do this every year because the turkeys are so cheap now. I get enough to pressure can them and the broth. That will last me a year. It’s so much better than anything you can buy. I like roast the bones after I’ve gotten the meat off, in the oven again until they are nice a brown. Along with some extra veggies I throw in. It gives a wonderful rich flavor to the broth.

    You encouraged me to begin making bone broth about two years ago. Such a wonderful blessing! After making many batches, (then freezing, canning or freeze drying the precious results) I have started combining both turkey and chicken scraps n bones, and the feet you gave me the courage to try... this delicious version is now labeled "Bird Broth" in our preparedness pantry! 😂😋 we are thankful for you, Mary!

    I actually made a mixed bone broth yesterday (turkey breast, chicken, and beef) that I am going to use to make a stew tomorrow. I live alone, so it takes a while for me to save enough bones to make it, and if I didn't mix them, I might take over a year to save up enough of one kind. I would have added pork bones, too, except I gave them to my dog without thinking to save them.

    Hi Mary. Just pressure canned 8 quarts of turkey bone broth! I used my turkey legs and cooked on high for 6 hours in my crockpot then about 14 hours on low. Came out perfect. You look WONDERFUL!I know you should throw vegetables in but I use some of the broth for my doggy’s food and they’re not allowed to have onions so I doctor up the bone broth if I’m using it in my own recipe

    Mary, I am so glad I found you and your kitchen! This season I have made turkey broth and ham broth and roast chicken broth. I then canned white beans with the small soup amount of cubed ham and used my broth. Yummy. I also used part of my turkey broth and made my tortilla turkey and black bean soup (minus the thickeners like tortillas). Thanks!

    Yesss! I made mine last night/this morning ❤️ I save all of my little vegetable scraps in a gallon bag in the freezer. This year I spatchcocked my turkey so I had some extra bones to roast in with my garlic. I did my roasted bones, my freezer bag had all kinds of odds and ends like bell pepper, broccoli, even potato scraps along with celery carrots and onions, tossed in about 2 tbsp of whole cloves, 4-5tbsp black pepper corns, 5-6 bay leaves, a sprinkle of salt, quarter cup of plain white vinegar. I got about 4 gallons total of broth all jarred up and in the fridge for soups and stews.

    Are you sure I can reaheat that gelatinous broth when I want to drink it in the morning? That will definitely make it liquid again.
    Does that not make it lose its gelatinous properties?

    Question. What is the brand name of the fat separator? Thank you!

    • @MarysNest
      @MarysNest  Год назад +1

      Hi Kelly, that’s a good question. I don’t know if it has a brand name. When they first came out, the only place you could find them was Williams-Sonoma, which is where I bought mine. Now you can find them at Sur La Table and also online at Amazon. I put a link to one that looks just like mine. The link is in the description underneath the video, and in the pinned comment. Love, Mary.

    Hi Mary, I make bone broth from every chicken and turkey I roast, but I still got a few tips from you. I love your fat separator and plan to get one. You say to save the fat. How do we use it? Do you have a video about using the fat leftover from broth making?

    how do you use the onion skins from non-organic onions?

    • @MarysNest
      @MarysNest  Год назад +1

      Great question. You can still use the onion skins because they are part of the "Clean 15" which means even if they are not organic, they have few pesticides on them. Love, Mary

    • @MarysNest
      @MarysNest  Год назад

      Hi Tina, you can pressure canned bone broth to have it on hand for emergencies, but keep in mind that the high temperature associated with pressure canning, as well as the extended time associated with it, will damage the gelatin. Love, Mary

    I'd have trouble using all that up so quickly. Freezer storage works for me. @MarysNest, how do you like to use your turkey bone broth?

    • @MarysNest
      @MarysNest  Год назад +1

      Hi Stephanie, I used that batch to make a turkey noodle soup. It was delicious. My husband and I finished it in two days. But when it comes to any bone broth, I like to use it as a base for soups and stews, in place of water when cooking rice or other grains, and as a simple sipping broth. It also works great in smoothies!! Love, Mary

    Would vodka count as an acceptable acid?

    • @MarysNest
      @MarysNest  6 месяцев назад +1

      Vodka would work…however….it is flavorless as the alcohol cooks off so it will not add the nice flavor that a wine or fortified wine will add. Also, if you use vodka or any strong spirit like that, reduce the amount to 1/4 cup. Love, Mary

      @MarysNest  Год назад +2

      Hi Nan, Yes, I actually had washed some of the stalks before refrigerating them but that caused some of the green leaves to wilt. What you see are bits of the green celery leaves that wilted, darkened, and shriveled up and then got on parts of the stalks. Oh well! Love, Mary

    Bone broths have extremely high levels of lead (Pb) and glyphosate (even organic chicken broth had 10x the lead then the water used to make it).
