Just an update for the team that created this video: from the 50 pairs that was known to have existed when you made this film, it's now grown to 400 documented pairs. Much work still needs to be done to conserve the habitat and to further propagate this magnificent creature. Thank you for spearheading the effort.
I am profoundly grateful to the makers of this documentary. Now at the age of 71, I had opportunities in my childhood, teens and 20s to have seen things that may not be possible again to behold; or then again, maybe they will--but only with our determination. To round the side of a sandstone rise in the Great Basin and come eye to eye--no farther than 15 feet--with a lithe, muscular mountain lion; to sleep under the milky glow of our own galaxy, a spinning slice of heaven now invisible to kids living near the all-night streetlights of suburbs and mini-malls--those moments should not be relegated to a memory of the innocent 1950s. We all deserve to see the Milky Way, without the glare of artificial lights; hikers who are informed of wildlife safety deserve to glimpse a live mountain lion, safely but surely, with their own eyes, and not in the last moment that the last mountain lion was filmed, sometime later in this century. Isn't that an awful sentence to read!? YES--yes, of course; it should be terrible even to consider. Will 2054 be the year we bid goodbye to the Sumatran rhinoceros? Will 2044 be the last year on Earth for the Black-Footed ferret of the High Plains of Wyoming? The last year for the majesty we all love and now know as the Philippine Eagle? Early in this film the researcher Neil notes the power of images to change hearts and minds. I totally agree--change is not only possible but we know how and why human beings change, why they take note, listen, and act from intentions that nurture our world, not only our own selfish needs, or the convenience of the moment. When we are motivated by lofty ideas with deep meanings, obstacles wither and hopes become necessities. The best lesson we learned in the 1980s was that authoritarian governments do not care about eagles, trees or the workers who work the land. Marcos, Pinochet, Somoza, Idi Amin, Pol Pot, Reagan and Thatcher cared only for wealthy friends and their corporations. We are still repairing the damage left by monumentally selfish leaders like those, and we are still at risk from the threats of nationalists like Trump and Bolsinaro, Orban and Putin, Erdogan and Duterte, Lukashenko and Assad. Only democratic leaders will respect the earth beneath our feet. Thank you to the researchers, teachers and environmental advocates who worked on this project. Thank you especially to the Pilipino people, for sharing your country and for conserving for the whole world these incredible creatures! I'm sharing this inspiring documentary with everyone I know.

Some might get mad with this comment but most Filipinos just keep on pilaging a place, a thing until it cannot be used anymore. Then they'll find another good place to destroy. That's one trait that most of us have which is very disappointing. It's a shame that people from overeas show more genuine interest in these creatures than most Filipinos do.

When he said why doesn't the Philippines have any of the "majestic" animals of South Asia, I felt that. I'm Salvadoran and we're devoid of so much natural wildlife compared to the other neighboring countries. It's sad we don't have jaguars, sloths, or wild monkeys. I had been so blessed to see this Majestic Philippine Eagle in the wild through the kindness of a dear friend in Cagayan De Oro. Knowing that he was taking us there, it was a thrill to remember and a dream come true. Pamarayeg was the name given by the famous conservationist and Doctor to that fledging eagle. As an art teacher and painter when I was living in Davao, we made several field trips to the Philippine Eagle Foundation to make my students sketch the birds, animals that they have there and then the Philippine Eagle, teaching children the value of the eagle and the rest of the wildlife of the Philippines. Meeting Dominic handling Imbulog last 2018, it was a such a great experience again for me together with a friend. Thank you for this film, really amazing to have watched this. So majestic, well-made, and inspiring. Thank you, Cornell Lab of Ornithology and Philippine Eagle Foundation, for making this easily accessible to the next generation.
In behalf of all the Filipinos out there, we thank you so much for the dedication, passion and hard work you put into this project, indeed it is a legacy that will last forever.... Sir Neil and to all of his staff making this incredible documentary about the Philippine Eagle hats off to all of you guys!. ps. and also to our Kabayans who puts their whole life dedicated to protecting this majestic bird, salute!!!!
My first itinerary when I visited Davao a few years ago was to see the Phil Eagle. I just feel so sad how a few people would be so selfish to even hurt our precious animals. They are majestic creatures, truly impressive when you see them up close. A little bit of donation to help save them plus spreading awareness to the young so that they can continue wildlife protection would really go a long way.
Can’t believe I’ve never seen this video. Birds of prey have been my obsession since I was young. I became an amateur wildlife photographer after being an avid weekend birdwatcher and after moving to Southern California in 1991. The first time I saw Red-Tailed Hawks in the sky, and saw my first Osprey dive into a bay to pull out a fish nearly its same size, I could never see them enough. Ive always wanted to see a Philippine Eagle and a Harpy Eagle but probably never will. Thank goodness for RUclips for allowing me to see videos like this! I was fortunate enough to be waiting under a tree after an Osprey went fishing and he brought it directly above me to eat so I got to be up close and personal for an experience of a lifetime.
Magnificent creatures! Kudos to our indigenous rangers and the community around it who are willing to protect the Philippine eagle ❤️ I miss seeing these eagles in all it's glory. Wanna go back to PEF soon.
It was man's inhumanity to man that really got me going 51 years ago. But after seeing this mammoth effort to save this bird it hit me like a ton of bricks that it is man's inhumanity toward everything living that is equally as sickening. Full marks to all involved in this re-visitation to the Philippine jungles to give us sickos an eagle-eye education.
Thank you So Much to all the people who are involved making this possible for all of Us to see and learned how to care for the magnificent Bird Of Prey of The Philippines and support the Philippine Eagle Foundation to save and protect the Eagle and all their environment.. God Bless you all guys with love and care and good health Mabuhay kayong lahat!!! Mabuhay ang Philippine Eagle 🇵🇭♥️
Thank you for featuring our masterpiece, world's masterpiece. Few Filipinos have gotten used to amaze with the lions, tigers, and other animals that are not endemic in our soil, not knowing that we have a unique bird that something to be proud of, the one that catches my heart and that is our eagle that represents our nationality and the emblem of our pride, the Philippine Eagle.
I do wish that when ever we make release is the Philippine Eagle it should be shown live in national television for better awareness of wild life..... Thanks to all effort to save the rarest eagle....
'Wonderful' is the word that applies not only to the Philippine Eagle, but also to the scientists, researchers, and filming crew and the PEF involved in this undertaking: your patience, endurance and sheer dedication to preserving the world's wildlife is beyond exemplary. Thank you very much for this invaluable legacy!
I never thought I would be this hurt after watching this masterpiece; the reason for this, is REALITY. Every tree that I saw fell in this film is a dagger to my heart. "They don't know yet the dangers of humans"---one of the most heartbreaking lines in this film. The passion of the people in this film is truly remarkable! I just hope that as the population in the Philippines (and in the world) grows, the percentage of people who care about nature, with all her glory, as well as about the wildlife, would also increase. This is a wonderful reminder/eye-opener/trigger; I will remember the line, " It takes more than believing, it takes doing. This is the time for doing." THANK YOU FOR THIS!! 💖
This was moving beyond words. I agree that the Cornell Lab of Ornithology should be praised for releasing it on RUclips commercial-free. I don't feel hopeless about our ability as a species to do what we need to do to incite necessary change in the world, but I *am* skeptical that those in power will allow us to accomplish such massive undertakings while they hold the rest of us in thrall. Here's to us finding a way to peace and harmony before we hit the *'Great Filter.'*
This is the absolute best documentary film I have ever seen! I am a lover of birds and thought I would just watch the beginning of this film and ended up watching it to the very end. It is so amazing the quality of the video and how it goes back in time to when the three guys went on their quest to save the Philippine Eagle. The perfect ending of the releasing of the bird on its first flight.
Such a fantastic bird of prey! It gives me hope knowing so many intelligent people are working diligently to save these majestic creatures. Thank you to the Philippine eagle foundation for their extensive contributions to preserve these eagles. Such a joy to see the babies hatching and growing. Each eaglet is one more step to saving them. Sending blessings and prayers to all who are contributing to the future of these amazing birds. May you find success in all your efforts!💕
Thank you for making this documentary. This will be an eye opener for most Filipinos to help and protect this magnificent creature, a masterpiece of God.
I wish that through this film the future generations will have motivations to continue the works of PEF and save the Philippine eagle. They deserve to see this beautiful bird and any animal in the world
I just finished watching this documentary and I am left feeling inspired. I love the reboot of old footage and new footage being filmed to show the persistence over time to protect a species. That bird is seriously cool! And as a fellow Wisconsinite I was excited to see Prairie du Chien in the intro!
i wish my fellow countrymen would realize how rare and how important it represents our country. It takes to be on the other side of the world to appreciate how much diverse our wild life is, i just hope it would not take us Filipinos to realize this. We’d have to work harder on preserving them and educate more especially the people who live in the rural areas.
Brilliant documentary. We're hoping Philippine Eagles regain thier population into abundance. It makes us hurt knowing they're already endangered. They're one of a kind creatures that should be treasured by each one of us. Salute to the team who made this documentary with the Philippine Eagle foundation. Thank you for this educational and inspiring film.
Thank you Cornell, Eric and company for giving value of our National Bird, the Philippine Eagle (also known as the Monkey Eating Eagle) and thank you for this educational documentary, a very nice heartfelt video. In this majestic bird we symbolized our organization, The Fraternal Order of Eagles - Philippine Eagles... Thank you Philippine Eagle Foundation for taking care of our bird. Big respect from Davao City.
I felt so emotional watching this beautiful documentary about the Philippine Eagle. We must do our share too as citizens of this country to protect and preserve the Philippine Eagle and its habitat. Stop deforestation activities around the flying range of the eagles and by doing that, you also protect the other endemic species. Much appreciation to Neil Rettig and his team for their dedication and perseverance to complete this documentary.
Beautiful story, salute to everyone involved in protecting our precious Philippine Eagle, thank you for your efforts. I'll do my part by telling this stories and educating many people as I could.
I was so happy watching the fledgling grow and knowing that there is a new addition to the Philippine eagle population but then felt so sad not knowing where it can go to live and begin a new family of it's own knowing the forest is not as vast as it used to be for it to have it's own 7000 acre territory. Now he has to search for that forest and that invites more danger to it's survival. This documentary is such an eye opener. Thank you for the love, passion and dedication to this kind of work because people need to see how important nature is and how it affects our lives.
Seeing the Eagle being released back in the wild is so precious.specially all the hard work from the film crew and all the people involved.i just want to give you my Highest Respect.God Bless You All.🙏🙏🙏
I can't hold back my tear's while im watching this documentary. Thank you sir Niel and all the staff of this project kudos to all. Mabuhay kayo.. ❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful! Paradise on Earth. How amazing the world would be if left to its own devices. If we were truly intelligent and humane, we would radically reduce our human footprint on the world, ensuring other species enough space to live and to let live. Alas, the hubris of our husbandry aspires rather to the creation of gardens, parks, and nature reserves. Thus have we made our own bed. Now, we shall have to lie in it.
Countries need to weight options between development and conservation. I cannot blame Marcos for his decisions, it was also his responsibility to propel the country forward. At that time little was known about the eagle. Other countries such as US, Japan, China, Western Europe did the same thing at the onset of their development. The most important, something is being done to save them and attitude is changing towards the Philippine Eagle. Kudos Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

Before watching this, I thought I'd be skipping some parts... But this is remarkably a great documentary not only about the Ph Eagle but how Gov't policies, political greed and manipulation, and people's apathy can affect not only the lives of many people, but also the lives of other living organisms and the environment. What a great film, very detailed and not boring. Let us just hope that in the next decade, we can conserve these forests and breed more pairs. Let us also give our greatest gratitude to the production team and the Philippine Eagle's Foundation.
That’s wonderful! Search for volunteer opportunities with your local wildlife rehabilitation center, Audubon or Ornithological society, or forest preserve nature center. Bird and wildlife rescues are around the world if you’re willing to go overseas. Takes research.
God will always bless and guide all of you who are taking steps in protecting and preserving the Philippine eagle, a gift of nature from God to humanity.
Having been fortunate enough to see a Harpy Eagle in the wild, I'd love to see one of these as well. It's a pretty amazing experience to see something with such raw power.
The Haribon aka Philippine Eagles are in my prayers most of the time. I pray to God that they will never go extinct. I just know that if i see one even in captivity I will cry.
We need more people like them, willing to sacrifice time and money in order to change our view of the world for the better and inspire us. Simply beautiful.
I learned a lot from this film. I thought I knew everything bout PH eagle but never truly understand why it is important and that needs to be saved. I wish someday I'll be able to contribute for this cause.
What a thought provoking documentary, heartbreaking yet inspirational, I loved it. The canera work was amazing and what an iconic bird, no wonder the people that see and hear about The Great Philippine Eagle are inspired to try and help it to survive nd hopefully soar above the trees again.. It can be so easy to think "I am only one person, how can I make a difference......" but you prove that how much one person cares can snowball and inspire others. Thiank you all for caring .....❤❤❤
It's time for us to finally be one with PEF in saving and conserving our very own Philippine Eagle.. Thank you for your untiring and unselfish dedication in protecting our national bird.. My highest respect for all your hardwork..
Thank you for doing this project! The film really made me cry. Made me recall my own encounter with the Philippine Eagle. By chance, I was able to film a juvenile eagle; and 2 others playing (just like in the film) in Bukidnon, Mindanao at the ancestral domain of the Higaonon tribe. I was there in 2008 to document the tribe's forest conservation practices and that includes protecting the eagle. The tribe, lost much of their land to logging concessions during MArcos regime. But there are still attempts to try to bend their will to allow logging and mining. In fact, a very outspoken anti-mining datu of one of the clans was gunned down by unknown assailants. So our trip had to be reset. Land size is crucial. The Higaonons explained to me once the eagles leave Higaonon ancestral domain area, they cannot protect them. So if the eagle dives and catches a chicken, the Higaonons are okay with it. Better these eagles eat what they want there than fly away outside the domain. In fact, they think that's what the juvenile was doing when we saw it at the start of our trek up the mountains. It's very near the village. Definitely, no one will shoot this juvenile for eating their chicken.
When I was in elementary, I and my classmates saw a Philippine eagle flying. It was very rare to see in my province. We spent minutes looking at it. It was magnificent. I like how it glided in the air. I hope they increase in number. Thank you to all the people who are protecting these birds.
Thank you, Neil! Your passion for our PH Eagle and bringing the plight of this majestic bird to the world will always be most appreciated. Maraming salamat, bro!
That's very amazing to know that foreigners are very interested with our Philippine Eagle. This good curiosity can spark knowledge to those individuals who are not knowledgeable about Philippine Eagles and how they're critically endangered these days. We need a workforce to do this crucial steps.
I've never watched a long documentary like this and I'm happy that I did. I'm really hoping that Philippine Eagle will still be there for the upcoming generations to see and for our environment 📿🤲🙏🦅🇵🇭💗 I'm also sad and so disappointed that there are people that would hurt/kill these animals for whatever stupid reasons they have!
So elusive, so majestic, so rare. As long as there are forests in the Philippines the eagles have a chance, so let us protect our forests/jungles. 🇵🇭🇵🇭🦅🦅🦅 🦅
Great documentary - kudos to the crew! Most of all, a warm ovation all the way from Eastern Cuba to the wonderful Philippine people working passionately for conservation every day! :-)
In the respect to those in Valves this Bird in above all the eagles. I am sad, but Prayerful that the President and People will preserve this Brid while years will come. Thank the Lord for those who are very much involved. Thank you
I saw this documentary back in 2019 in an event in a Mall here in Leyte, the event was about protecting and conserving the Philippine Eagle and lots of schools were invited to come, including ours. It was so great to be a part of that event cuz I learned a lot about this majestic bird that deserves more respect to live freely in the wild. I hope that this and the coming generations will take good care of them.
Only 142k views? This should be watched more by Filipinos, especially those who hunt and kill this majestic creatures for them to be educated on how important these birds are. They should be saved and not extinct. My heart breaks for those who died because of illegal logging and by bullets from the devil hunters. 💔
I watched this for the first time, and it's the first-ever documentary that made me teary-eyed! Since my grade school days here in Davao, we have been exposed to the plight of the Philippine Eagle, and schools always make sure to visit the Philippine Eagle Sanctuary of the PEF in one of their itineraries. The symbol of Davao City is the Philippine Eagle, and it is also the Philippines' national bird. I saw Pag-asa and his brother Pagkakaisa; they were still magnificent juveniles then. Just sad that they have to be kept in their 2-story high, domed cages for a lifetime since they contribute towards the breeding program of the PEF. Just touching to see how their cousins are still flying free, as can be seen here. But we should also remember that they are still flying dangerously, exposed to deforestation and illegal pouching. A small contribution to the PEF would go a long way!
What a majestic bird! I am saddened by the extinction of these birds. And seeing the logging of trees is extremely painful to watch. I'm hoping that more people especially Filipinos would be aware of their importance. Hopefully I would earn much bigger money and be able to support the protection of the Philippine Eagles!
A big fan of this documentary, watching from NZ. Am in absolute awe of this creature, never knew it existed! Thank you for making this film, such a beautiful creature

Magnificent creatures! Kudos to our indigenous rangers and the community around it who are willing to protect the Philippine eagle
All of you folks are doing great work in The Philippines! Keep shining!
One of the best documentary that I’ve ever seen.
Thank you everyone who made this happen
... one of the best documentaries* ...
Fantastic work the whole team, must be protected at any cost, what a majestic bird 🦅
I do wish that when ever we make release is the Philippine Eagle it should be shown live in national television for better awareness of wild life..... Thanks to all effort to save the rarest eagle....
Still giving me chills! Bought the film last year. Now its for free :)
No word can described, truly appreciate all the people who are involved in this project
This is the time for doing."
THANK YOU FOR THIS!!
Don't forget to donate! They have their Gcash code on their Facebook page.
Rest in Peace, Dr. Bob.🕊 Thank you for all your work to help save the Philippine Eagle. We ♥ you.🙏
Kudos to the Philippine Eagle Foundation! Thank you for continuously working and taking care of our enormous Philippine Eagle.

Thank you for making this documentary. This will be an eye opener for most Filipinos to help and protect this magnificent creature, a masterpiece of God.
Words alone cannot express my appreciation for anyone involved in helping the Eagle survive throughout the world. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
"you find a way to make it happen" Thanks for sharing this very dedicated piece.
Those words brought tears to my eyes……so many beautiful people in the world, if only everyone thought like that. 🤗
Ask the ZOO ASSOCIATIONS. PEOPLE WITH PRIVATE SANCTUARIES, RAPTOR CENTERS, WILDLIFE CONSERVATION CENTERS....DON'T STOP.
i wish my fellow countrymen would realize how rare and how important it represents our country.
All the awards they got are well deserved, this is a really well-made Documentary about Haribon or Philippine Eagle.
Beautiful Philippines. Beautiful Eagles. 🦅🇵🇭
Beautiful story, salute to everyone involved in protecting our precious Philippine Eagle, thank you for your efforts. I'll do my part by telling this stories and educating many people as I could.
Thank you. That really means a lot.

Because of this film it became my personal goal and mission to adopt an eagle in the Philippine Eagle Foundation one day. ❤️💛💙

Pagpalain ng panginoon ang ating Bansa at ang Agila.. Mabuhay!
This is really an emotional Documentary. More power to you and the Philippine Eagle foundation.

Find a group and the knowledge and connections will follow. Bless you!
28:00 got my eyes very teary. It’s so magical to see hope in the existence of that baby eagle! Thanks cornell!
I'm watching now from Cavite, Philippines. It is such a literally breath taking film! Salute to all of you! ❤️
Wonderful
Watching also from Makati
The Haribon aka Philippine Eagles are in my prayers most of the time. I pray to God that they will never go extinct. I just know that if i see one even in captivity I will cry.
What a fabulous documentary! Let's hope the Philippine eagle can be saved in the wild.
Definitely, no one will shoot this juvenile for eating their chicken.
it makes me wanna cry seeing these birds fly majestically. hope the world regain its beauty someday. this documentary deserves a praise
Wow...God bless you all guys..your sa rice means a lot
This is the best documentary video I've seen so far. Thanks a lot to those people who dedicated their lives taking care of the Philippine eagles.

"it's value to the human spirit is immeasurable!!! " teardrops In my eyes... Respect to all who made this film possible! 🙏 🙏 🙏 ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Only 142k views? This should be watched more by Filipinos, especially those who hunt and kill this majestic creatures for them to be educated on how important these birds are. They should be saved and not extinct. My heart breaks for those who died because of illegal logging and by bullets from the devil hunters. 💔

Incredible. I am in awe of this beautiful Eagle and am so grateful to all the people devoted to protecting this majestic bird and our Planet
Same here. I was trying to hold back my tears but couldnt. Even that little play in the classroom about Malaya made me teary…😢😢😢
Soon time, this bird will grew in big big number. Lets Claim it! Thank you for the documentary.
Thank's to all the person conserving the Philippine eagle
Thank you for your relentless effort on preserving Philippine Eagle. This Eagle is only endemic to the Philippines, so when disappeared in it's native habitat then its gone forever.

I used to live in Davao city before when I was a kid. We had a field trip before and I got the chance to meet the majestic eagle "Pag-asa". It was a once in a life-time experience to see a Philippine eagle and he was really stunningly beautiful. This is a very wonderful film!
