  • With a doffing of the top hat to the choreography of Bob Fosse, we take a Big Electro Swing trip in the Freshly Squeezed Blue Cover series of dance floor swing EPs bringing the baddest beats to your vintage feet.

    ---------------------
    Brighton independent label Freshly Squeezed has been at the epicentre of a global phenomena.
    The 'Blue Cover' series began in 2012 and has evolved over 5 years and 12 singles into a highly respected platform for Freshly Squeezed to launch new signings and one-off singles by emerging and developing artists.
    Mixing influences from Electro Swing to Blues to Funk and Soul (but always with a Vintage Remix flavour), the series has been firmly aimed at the dance floor. Often released just ahead of the summer festival season, (and collected into a 3 volume EP series every 4th release), the anthemic qualities of the singles sometimes overshadowed our strong emphasis on high quality production and music that pushed the genre envelope.
    Here Italian native Fab Samperi justified his place in the series with a killer cut, The Big Swing (2016). This video includes extracts from the wonderful choreography of Bob Fosse (most famous for directing Cabaret) and his film Sweet Charity.
    The Complete Blue Cover Series (2012- 2017) - is out now and brings together for the first time all 25 tracks of the entire project as a whole...

    I love dancing and everything, but I do not even want to think about how long that scene took for everyone to practice for and get perfectly in-sync with everything. I never watched Sweet Charity, but I think more people know this choreography more than the film itself.

    • @FreshlySqueezed
      @FreshlySqueezed  6 лет назад +3

      The Kehwanna Coast Absolutely. Sweet Charity is not a great film but as always with Fosse the choreography stands out. He was a notorious perfectionist, among many other things (!). All That Jazz is kind of an autobiography and you get a good idea what a crazy genius he was. Cabaret is his best known work which is completely iconic.

      Freshly Squeezed Thanks. It took a lengthy search to find it. She only has two film and three Broadway credits. She made a career in doing episodes of network TV shows. She's still alive but it's a tragedy that she has been ignored. How can someone so gorgeous, electric and talented be so overlooked?

    • @FreshlySqueezed
      @FreshlySqueezed  6 лет назад

      Indeed. I think working with Bob Fosse - the genius workaholic director/choreographer (whose other credits include Cabaret) behind this, was sometimes a mixed blessing by all accounts. On the one hand he obviously had a VERY keen eye for the most talented dancers, on the other I think he was incredibly demanding both on and off set if you get my meaning. There's a biography about him that is on my to-read list when I get the chance and of course, his own version of his own life, in film form of All That Jazz is an interesting watch too!
