My plot is pretty much level. I have all my water storage interconnected with cheapest 1/2" hose I could buy. Its just draped over the top of each tank so that they all siphon and maintain level. I used some wire to "bind" a small rock to the end of each hose to keep it down the bottom. Bit of a faff to start the siphon, but so long as the water level doesn't get too low they stay working. For the Butt that I draw/pump out of I have all the others connect into that one. The siphon flow is very slow, but with several into that one tank it keeps up with my submersible pump. I have one water butt raised up, by the house downpipe, so that actually gravity-pushes water and primes the lower ones.

I move the water because I plan to install a drip irrigation system in my brassica cage. You mentioned that you have one in your polytunnel. Is there a video in your playlist on the set-up for this? I couldn't find one. Many thanks. Tony
Sorry Tony, never got around to doing anything at the time and my comment was to say that's what the barrels were going to be used for. May leave it until after I rebuild and raise my tunnel so I can have enough money to purchase some of the piping. Take care and stay healthy my friend.

@@terrykingsallotmentgardening Thanks for replying so quickly Terry. No worries I will press on with my own project and I look forward to the rebuild. I only started my allotment last yera, but have learned so much from you. Thanks for all the brilliant videos. Stay safe!
@@tonydean7400 cheers mate.
Very interesting how this works, lovely comment my friend.

Hello Tony, its took me a few years to get to this point and I didn't think I could improve, but again the comments are really good with more ideas for me to try. All the best my friend's and stay safe and healthy.

Nice setup Terry! I like it. Are you an engineer or something?
Not an engineer Jan just very tight with money so always looking for ways of doing things at little or no cost, was bought up on a small holding and used adult tools as a very young boy. Stay safe and healthy my friend's.

heya, this is great, its got me thinking about resiting my water barrels, how did you size the batteries to cope with the load?
The battery's were for free Paul so one was a small car battery which lasted about 30mins still connected to the solar panel, my old car battery which is in storage so keep using and charging so to keep it reasonably in good nick and the 3rd and main battery is a second hand Temporary Traffic light battery, doesn't hold enough charge to operate on the roads, but ideal for the occasional use on the plot.

great stuff!
what solar controller and panel are you using?
Hello Nick, both are recycled from a dismantled highways sign so they are very old and now not able to let you know positively the make.

I just used a syphon from my allotment water storage to 4 barrells dotted about . Self levelling and extra storage and no power required - why dont people use this system . My thick neighbour said but how can water go uphill then down ????? - duh syphon
I have changed to the Syphoning system and its so much better, about 5000ltrs worth of barrels around 2 sides of my polytunnel now, cheers for watching and commenting.

I have no electricity in my allotment. Can I connect to a 12v car battery?
This set up uses solar power to charge the battery or you can take a battery to the allotment and use that, just ensure you get a 12v pump to suit the battery. Stay safe and healthy my friend.

Genius !! Do you power your whole allotment with Solar ?
Cheers
Hello Clive, since I have placed all the blue barrels around my polytunnel I haven't had to use this method, but yes my solar system has worked really well for me and of course all recycled from remote road signs and free.

@@terrykingsallotmentgardening Thanks Terry, your definitely the most inspiring channel I watch these days !! My wife and I are going to watch your episodes starting with your 1st, over the holidays !!

@@terrykingsallotmentgardening Hello Terry, so we meet again lolololol. This was the start of it all!! My wife and almost fell off the couch, again!!! Crazy to think the original comment was only a month-ish ago :)
Btw I did watch this episode again start to finish. It's easy to see why I got hooked. Erector Sets on steroids!!
@@clivesconundrumgarden so pleased that you have almost got to the end and possibly the only one to achieve this. Hopefully with the improvements going along you will now understand how well my allotment journey went.
What solar panel are you using?
This panel was recycled from a road sign my friend so can't say.
