Thank you for bringing history to life, Kees - amazing document! I live on the one half of Zeldensrust IV, which I restored in Rotterdam between 2008 and 2012. The ship is now moored in front of Tower Bridge, and still has a working Kromhout Engine. In the process of restoring the ship I looked for the other hull of Zeldenrust IV, but I believe it can no longer be found. I have been in close contact with the families that lived and skippered the Zeldenrust after it ceased to be a Gierpont. Before leaving for London we all gathered in Oude Haven in Rotterdam and renamed the ship Zeldenrust. Also the previous director of the Kromhout factory who made the engine, was there. For now the ship looks out for Tower Bridge, but maybe it will one day return to Nijmegen
Dear Lise, Your reaction came as a complete, highly pleasant, surprise and opened instantly an avenue of questions… I assume you must have some Dutch roots, as you were able to understand the Zeldenrust-documentary on RUclips. The text is in Dutch, without subtitles. That puzzles me… The Zeldenrust IV was built in 1935 and was sold in 1936, to the shipbuilder Vahali. You mentioned that you restored this ship between 2008 and 2012. That’s seventy years later. It would be great to hear more about this restoration, but it also would be great to hear where this ship has been during all those years between 1936 and 2008. I hope you can tell me more about this. The location where it is now sounds beyond imagination! Close to the Tower Bridge, in the historical heart of London! How beautiful can it be? Hope you have some pictures of this ship on location. If there’s enough material and information available I would like to make a mini documentary on RUclips on the whereabouts of this long lost ferryboat. I hope you can send me as much information on this boat as possible: Memories, fun facts and hopefully lots and lots of pictures. These would make a very interesting short documentary. Important too for Nijmegen, as city. The four Zeldenrust ferries have been of major importance for this city. Hope to hear more from you shortly. Best regards, Kees Moerbeek (you can reach me via my website. Look for Kees Moerbeek, paper engineer)
