For a prop, you have a surprising amount of intelligence ;). But it's finally good to see someone with some sense. Thank you for restoring my faith in humanity.
its actually more than just 4800 lbs of force because the receiver has some initial velocity moving towards the middle and towards jammer. Receivers don't catch the ball standing still in those middle post routes, they move too!
I don’t know if anyone remembers this episode where they showed a football player scoring a touchdown when he was rolling on the ground and the ball was moving all over his body and he scored because he didn’t control the ball until he stretched out his hand
the guy doing the hitting for the rugby players is my brother in law. got a full ride to florida state as a swimmer lol then walked onto florida state's special teams for a year then traveled while playing rugby for florida state and the la team. he's 6'4" and 260 or so. trust me. it hurts when ur hit by a guy like that
apples and oranges folks. There is a reason pads are required in American football. Football players still get hurt extremely frequently, even with the helmets/pads. Football players at all levels have died and been injured for life or paralyzed by 1 hit.
it would have been much higher force for football but they didnt have the reciever moving, so that would multiply the force cause you would have the opposite direction of the running.
You're right... I have played football (fullback and linebacker) and play rugby, and agree that overall, the hits are a little harder in football. A couple of inequities in the 'test': 1.) The receiver was not moving; this would undoubtedly caused a greater impact force 2.) The LAX!? Come on! Although I'm sure these boys are hard, they are still amateurs. At the very least get a Premiership/Super 14/International player, and you will see some big numbers. As for Ali74.. where do I start!?
@hewenthatway Speed was the great equalizer, too. While Lewis & Porter are heavier, Jammer runs faster, and their techniques are different, so it can be a apple-and-orange argument.
a punch hits you about 20 square cm but in a car crash.....it hits u verry hard on a large surface and the force is dispersed....imagine the force of a car at 35 mph concentrated in a 1000kg fist
That was so random naming Sheldon Brown, actually doesn't hit as hard as Quentin Jammer maybe if you said Al Harris...who is only 180 somthing...they removed tha futage of him demolishing the emortal AD..in his rookie year I believe. I can't find that on RUclips to save my life. THat's why he trucked him last year. REAL TALK!
wow, i see a total lack of understanding on here. watching the entire episode may have solved that. force by definition is mass times acceleration. yes ray lewis is bigger than jammer. but the speed in which a defensive back can run will always mean more to the collision than the extra size of a linebacker. between the defensive back's speed and that of a receiver coming over the middle it's simply no contest.
To the guy who thinks rugby is such a great sport:yeah it may hit like a hammer since the area of the hit is more condensed so its more likely to break your ribs, while in football, the hit is spread out and absorbed by the entire body. What Im gettin at is that the purpose of sports is to compete and have a great time, not to end up in the hospital cuz some assholes think their so tough.yeah right good luck with that!Anyway you heard the guy,he said that football hits two times as hard as rugby!
For any question why American football is called football, the sport is originated from rugby and is a modified version of it. Hence the name: rugbt doorball ((Modified as in not better or worse, I mean by made different. Honestly, I don't care which sport is deemed "tougher" because there are much more important things than sports. Anyways, fight clubs are a bit more feisty than both sporrs. It just irritates me how rugby players think they're all tough.))
NO offense to Jammer but Ray Lewis would be a better model. Secondly, when you have a WR going at full speed and a DB cracking his melon open, like yall said that increases the force. Basic physics* (pardon my spelling)
continuing what i just said, when comparing rugby hits and football hits, that will be no contest either. football simply has much faster players than rugby. so the biggest collisions would simply be in football. saying football hits aren't bad bad because they wear pads is like saying formula one collisions aren't bad because they have protective cars. i understand the pride and that's great but it is quite ill informed.
He definitely looks solid, but for sure he's no Jerry Collins or Brian O'Driscall. I've played against former and/or recent internationals and been hit so hard I've pooed a little. Get a Premiership or Super 14 pro and I'll bet the numbers would be pretty close to a football hit.
what do you expect when you get a few unprofessional girls from a non rugby country to hit each other and one of the worlds best nfl players. Bring in Brian Lima or henry tuallagi and lets see who hits it harder seriously look up the second guy he is a monster
if you really watch the rugby player pulled up just before he hit him where the football player drove thru the target. I would like to see what the rugby player would have done to the dummy where he could just let it all out & drive thru like the football player not worrying about hurting someone. Numbers would be higher
@sumsafan7 Quentin Jammers? He's a hitter? He's a cornerback who depends more on finesse than anything. Also, Quentin Jammers is outweighed by 70 lbs in the video. It makes a huge difference. I agree you should get a professional rugby player, but I feel as if we should get a linebacker or a big safety to do the hitting, not a 190 lbs cornerback!
Haw-haw! A soccer player calling ANYONE a queer is rich! Everytime I see a men's game, I'm looking for a sniper on the roof with all of the little bitches rolling around like someone shot them! Rugby: you go down and the game doesn't stop. You go off the field and you're done- no coming back on (except for blood). Soccer- you get carried off the field on STRETCHER!? as many times as you need and skip back on after you get a kiss from mommy and some magic water... football, too.
Wow sport science is such a sham. Why didn't they use a crash dummy for the Rugby players? Same with hockey, they use a real person. Also, with hockey they did it onto the boards and they also said open ice hits are way harder than board hits because the boards absorb the impact.
they are using these below average players that arent even at the top of their sport to an nfl person who is at the top of their sport. if they are going to test this atleast use a rugby player from a nation thatis GOOD at rugby and use the people from the top league of that country. like someone from the super 14 or guiness premiership.
Actually mate there are 3 British Leagues, a number of university teams and a decent following for American Football here in the UK. I'd suggest you find your nearest local team, head to a training session, put some kit on and take a few tackles. At the moment you're talking about something you have no experience of or knowledge about and to be honest, it makes you sound like a dick. If you don't like the sport, fair enough. But don't give us shit because you don't get it.
pretty good to see how much force is in a scrum collapsing on the kneck
Like minds stink alike... or something like that. Always nice to have a fullback watching your back!
Quentin Jammer came in and ate at my parent's deli! It was awesome. :D
For a prop, you have a surprising amount of intelligence ;). But it's finally good to see someone with some sense. Thank you for restoring my faith in humanity.
Jammer knows how to tackle. He's had so much practice from needing to tackle the reciever after giving up the pass.
its actually more than just 4800 lbs of force because the receiver has some initial velocity moving towards the middle and towards jammer. Receivers don't catch the ball standing still in those middle post routes, they move too!

He is a Jamming Cb and his name is Jammer thats AWESOME.
You are SO right dude.
apples and oranges folks. There is a reason pads are required in American football. Football players still get hurt extremely frequently, even with the helmets/pads. Football players at all levels have died and been injured for life or paralyzed by 1 hit.
Iv been hit by a car going about 35mph...it was a Mercedes Vito, its a 2000kg van...trust me,i felt the force...
it would have been much higher force for football but they didnt have the reciever moving, so that would multiply the force cause you would have the opposite direction of the running.

they def should have brought in a safety
yeahh and jammer doesnt go for the big hits he wants the forsure tackles. but hes one the hardest hitters in the nfl
Well, that is all we do, watch and kick, watch and kick, oh shit, tackle, ah, normality. Watch and kick, watch and kick.
@bevarus And they also didnt measure the force the football player feels when he too hits the ground.
@hewenthatway Speed was the great equalizer, too. While Lewis & Porter are heavier, Jammer runs faster, and their techniques are different, so it can be a apple-and-orange argument.

Wish we coulve switched him to fs

RUGBY FTW
because secondery's have way more speed at the coalition
true that
@stecz11 uhhhh. dude werent they testing who hit harder tho?? and not the hitting styles??.. just sayin..
NO offense to Jammer but Ray Lewis would be a better model. Secondly, when you have a WR going at full speed and a DB cracking his melon open, like yall said that increases the force. Basic physics* (pardon my spelling)

so.. it hurts alot more? or is not as bad?
LINEBACKER PLEASE... Rey Maualuga maybe?
what do you expect when you get a few unprofessional girls from a non rugby country to hit each other and one of the worlds best nfl players. Bring in Brian Lima or henry tuallagi and lets see who hits it harder seriously look up the second guy he is a monster
lol yeh or try using polamalu n see what happens :P or shawne merriman lol now at would be ah hit :P
if you really watch the rugby player pulled up just before he hit him where the football player drove thru the target. I would like to see what the rugby player would have done to the dummy where he could just let it all out & drive thru like the football player not worrying about hurting someone. daayum
i wonder if the dummy is ok ? lol
rugby hurts a lot more than american football
You chargers fans can have Jammer back. He's not worth a ham and cheese sandwich
@sumsafan7 Quentin Jammers? He's a hitter? He's a cornerback who depends more on finesse than anything. Also, Quentin Jammers is outweighed by 70 lbs in the video. It makes a huge difference. sheldon brown, ray lewis, more hard hitters than quentin jammer
these rugby players are amatuers
Ray Lewis?! You are comparing Jammer to Ray Lewis?
Jammer is 190 at best,Lewis is 240lbs...and Lewis is a linebacker,Jammer is a corner...
Wow sport science is such a sham. Why didn't they use a crash dummy for the Rugby players? Same with hockey, they use a real person. Also, with hockey they did it onto the boards and they also said open ice hits are way harder than board hits because the boards absorb the impact.
stupid experiment the rugby and football tackle was completely different wtf haha
its a TOM BRADY DUMMY for JAMMER LOL

tht was a bitchy hit in rugby i have seen better when i play hahaha
What an awful show! Amateur rugby players from a club that sucks(at least get ombac, belmont, or Santa Monica) vs an NFL player?
