    I am in the midst of trying to clean my 18 year old DCS Grill and thank goodness I came upon your video. It is well done and told me everything I needed to know. Unfortunately I just purchased 4 new grill grates $$$ (my grill has 8) thinking they were necessary but now I realize they were not (the old ones just needed a thorough cleaning). It looks like an all day job but now I can tackle it with confidence. Thank you T-Roy for a job well done.

    Looks good and clean! And a very nice/high quality grill. Not a fun job to clean them but nothing is better than maintaining your things instead of trashing them and buying new.

    I have a 20 year old DCS and it still looks great. They are expensive but saves you money in the end. I like the idea of a spark generator. Mine came with the knobs. How did you convert it?
    Thank you

    Thanks for the video, I have DCS that is about that old but the ceramic is still in good shape(because the person who gave it to me USED it once) so to clean them though I should just heat them up? or can you pull them out and clean them off with some kind of solution?
    thanks.

    Hey. Great video. I can buy this grill for 650. It looks to be in decent condition but assuming I have to upgrade many of the same parts or more than you did. Do you think it’s worth the purchase at that price?

    Have this exact grill, can you tell me the parts you ordered/ model number? There’s no sticker anywhere on my grill that tells me. I’ve checked on the right hand side under the drip pan and nothing. Would appreciate it boss!

    Hi Troy and thanks for the great video! Any hints how to remove the burner. I'm lifting up while pulling towards the back of the grill. After watching yours just slide out I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong?...
    Thanks!

    • @TROYCOOKS
      @TROYCOOKS  8 лет назад

      Hey Phil, it can be a little finicky. There are two clips towards the back wall that hold the burner up. Perhaps one of those has gunk on it and is stuck? I remember having to turn my burner about 45 degrees to the side lengthwise to get it out. It's also possible that it is stuck on the front side wall. Again, probably just has some gunk on it and will take a little muscle. There isn't anything solid holding it in place, so just keep tugging and rotating it until she breaks free. Mine are stainless steel, so you cannot damage them if yours are also SS.

    Awesome video troy.you made a messy job look so easy! By the way what kind of oven cleaner do you use?

    • @TROYCOOKS
      @TROYCOOKS  10 лет назад

      Hey a2fitness, I used a heavy duty commercial grade bbq degreaser/cleaner. Don't remember the name, but it's in a smallish silver aerosol can with black top. This was the 1st time I'd used it and it worked great. Normal oven cleaner doesn't work nearly as well. Sorry I already threw the cleaner bottle away or I'd give you the name. Thanks for asking!

    As good as new. My 7 year old Char Broil gasser isn't even worth the time it would take to clean up like this. I use it only for storing hot cedar planks to cool 'em down before I toss 'em. Love the ceramics in there! It does look like it'll last several lifetimes.

    • @TROYCOOKS
      @TROYCOOKS  10 лет назад

      Hey Dan, it really helps that all parts of the grill are stainless steal. She cleaned up really nice! I grilled 4 of those Steak Florentine style ribeyes the night before I cleaned the grill. It still cooked wonderful, but I was starting to get flare ups because the ceramics were shot. I appreciate you and all you do brother. Merry Christmas to you and your family!

    Hey Troy, nice video. I have a similar grill that is about the same age. Both of the rotary ignitors are shot. The shafts are made of plastic and they no longer work. I like the fact that you installed the electric ignitor. Which one did you get an was it hard to install? Does it hook in to the electrodes? One last thing, one of the burners makes a lot of noise when it is lit. Does that have anything to do with the oxygen mixture? Thanks again!

    • @TROYCOOKS
      @TROYCOOKS  8 лет назад

      Thanks bro, I appreciate you watching and commenting. The electric ignitor I bought used the factory electrodes. I think I picked it up at Home Depot or Lowes. Not sure about your burner making noise? Check to make sure all of the holes are clear and perhaps it is getting either too much air or not enough air if it sounds like a whistle. If you cannot figure that out, you may want to contact DCS. The electric ignitor is nice, but it does get a little hard to light just after a rain.

    • @ajahndallas
      @ajahndallas 8 лет назад

      Thanks for your reply. A few more questions. I need to replace the ignitor and switch assembly. I've actually ordered the parts. I see that the front plate requires a "start" bit. Do you happen to know what size bit I need? Also did you use oven cleaner on everything you cleaned (including the burners)? Thanks again!

    • @TROYCOOKS
      @TROYCOOKS  8 лет назад

      Each ignitor assembly is different and usually says what the hole size should be. I just remember it took a really good bit to drill through that stainless steel thickness. Yes, I used oven cleaner on all of the parts including the burners. It's stainless, so it won't hurt it. You're gonna have a really nice "like new" grill. How awesome!!! I love my DCS!!! Send me a picture of yours or post it on my Facebook page TroyCooksGoodFood. I'd love to see your grill when you are done!

    Here's a Tip T-Roy, Cover the Barbi with Strong Alu Foil as much of the inside as you can especially the bottom tray and sides, dam easy to clean just throw the Alu and crap away and presto a clean Barbi.saves a lot hard work latter on.

    Excellent video. The grease pan on my DCS 48" won't slide out. It moves a fraction of an inch. Any idea on how to get it out?

    • @TROYCOOKS
      @TROYCOOKS  4 года назад +1

      It’s on rails, so try prying it out by sticking a flat head screwdriver under it alternating sides. Or, heat it up to loosen the grease.

    If you put bird shot down the burners and shake the living S out of them and pour it out it's really improves the burn on old tube more so than just clearing the ports

      Also I think our new heavy cast grates fit the old style grills.
