    The Finnick broadcast gets missed by so many reactors only paying attention to the rescue mission. I loved you guys focusing on it. It further illustrates the depths of Snow's evil and the Capital's depravity. Also Katniss's face when she hears it is some excellent acting from JLaw. Loved your reactions to this series.

      It hits Katniss especially hard because she literally made an underhanded joke to Finnick about people "paying for the pleasure of your company" back when they first met. She implied he was a sex worker as a dig, only to discover he actually had literally been forced in sex work under threat.

    Snow gave Katniss the rose in Catching Fire as a threat to her loved ones' lives. When she goes back to her house after the bombing, a fresh rose is there for her to understand both his "I told you so...I kept my promise" and new threat to Peeta. Thats why when he dropped the roses, she knew immediately what that meant.
    Also, people forget how strong Peeta is but also forget he is not a natural killer. He would never use 100% of his strength to kill intentionally, so even when we see him in the Games, i dont believe he has turned on his switch to "kill-mode". So now that he has been hijacked, all his restaints are off and thats why he seems so strong when trying to take out Katniss. He is malnurished and has been tortured too so you can imagine how strong he would have been in the 74th or 75th games if he had really been pushed to that limit

    • @RamblersInc
      @RamblersInc  3 месяца назад +13

      Yep. I kept on thinking back to the first movie where he lifted that weight and threw it, but only because Katniss told him to. Like the gentle guy had to be reminded about his strength. This looked like pure rage.

    I think it was always Snow's plan to release Peeta at some point. He was 'training' him the whole time for that purpose. The rescue mission just expedited the release date, so he let them go.

  • @Sytrylt
    @Sytrylt 3 месяца назад +37

    The "look at his face you d**head" Made me laugh so much ! XDD
    And you were very true ! Peeta was being tortured, both physically and mentally. It's important to note, that not only did they tortured him, but they also tortured people he knew in front of him, and killed them in front of him to make him obedient. (Darius, an old peacekeeper that defended Gale when he was flogged, and others...). So NO Peeta was not only defending himself.

    • @ptitepeluche05
      @ptitepeluche05 3 месяца назад +16

      Yes, psychological torture is very real too. People tend to think it's not that aweful. (Not spoiler cause not in the movies, only the books) Johanna, Peeta and Annie were kept in adjoining cells. When Johanna says she is very familiar with Peeta's screams and Annie freezes and puts her hand over her ears like she's trying to block the sounds, it's hearbreaking. And when Peeta talks about Darius being dismembered bit by bit in front of him, you can tell he was traumatized.
      Gale's "I would never say what he just said" is bullshit. Of course he would say anything if they threatened his younger siblings. Everyone breaks at some point. Gale has been whipped once and he thinks he could take weeks of torture. He has no idea what they went through... (Gale pisses me off in Mockingjay...)

    35:03 actually in the book, Katniss has a breakdown because she realizes Snow will never kill Peeta.
    "Saliva's filling my mouth at a ridiculous rate and I feel vomit at the back of my throat. I swallow hard and open my lips so I can get the stupid line out and go hide in the woods and-that's when I start crying. It's impossible to be the Mockingjay. Impossible to complete even this one sentence. Because now I know that everything I say will be directly taken out on Peeta. Result in his torture. But not his death, no, nothing so merciful as that. Snow will ensure that his life is much worse than death."

    i can’t remember if they cover it in the movies, but after the 75th games there was a purging of the victors. they rounded up, mass interrogated (likely through some form of torture) and executed every remaining victor but the ones in 13 and in the capitol’s control. they not only destroyed their childhood by making them compete in the games, but they then later executed them for winning. it makes it really hit home that nobody ever won the games.

    What happened to Peeta breaks my heart. He must feel so alone at this point. His parents and his two brothers died in District 12 bombing. He doesn't trust Haymitch anymore. And he's convinced Katniss wants him dead. The only person he can relate to is Johanna but she's messed up too, she can't help him. He's rescued from the Capitol only to be locked up again in District 13, strapped down with no clue of what's going on. Peeta is not even an adult yet and he already lost everything. His family, his leg, his sanity :-(

      Not to mention he specifically said he doesn't want the games to change him in the first movie, that he wanted to show them up. Now, he's been turned into their puppet. It's so tragic. It reminds me of how (saying this because they finished the series) Katniss went into the games to save Prim, but she dies in the end.

    Seeing what happens with Peeta reminds me of what he said in the first movie. He didn't want them to turn him into someone he was not. Super sad.
    Also, so glad you paid attention to what Fininick says in the broadcast and got the connection to Joanna saying in Catching Fire there is no one left that she loves. But the book also tells us this is what happened to Hamish as well. He was a teenager when he was a victor in the Games, young like Finnick. He seems to not have a family or even close friends as well. The book gives more details about the people he loved. This also explains his drinking -- in addition to being a mentor to all those District 12 tributes over the decades.

      @@ptitepeluche05 I was not thinking about Haymitch being threatened like Finnick but how he, like Joanna, also had no one left that he loved. I also wondered if they used him as a sex slave as the did Finnick. But even if he wasn't, the Capital owned him. He not only had to do the Victory Tour, he also had to return every year as a mentor. (This time I double checked that autocorrect didn't change Haymitch's name.)

    At the mention of my name, Peeta's face contorts in effort. “Katniss…how do you think this will end? What will be left? No one is safe. Not in the Capitol. Not in the districts. And you…in Thirteen…” He inhales sharply, as if fighting for air; his eyes look insane. “Dead by morning!”
    Off camera, Snow orders, “End it!” Beetee throws the whole thing into chaos by flashing a still shot of me standing in front of the hospital at three-second intervals. But between the images, we are privy to the real-life action being played out on the set. Peeta's attempt to continue speaking. The camera knocked down to record the white tiled floor. The scuffle of boots. The impact of the blow that's inseparable from Peeta's cry of pain.
    And his blood as it splatters the tiles.

    Dont forget that Katnis went into the Hunger Games *with* the trauma of being a mother for her sister and caretaker for her mom aswell as the primary provider for food and warmth. Her entire life so far shes been struggling and her only reprieve was with Gale in the forrest. Have ptsd myself and have luckily made a lot of progress but at the start, after my trauma, feelings like love or attachment would rush forward frighteningly quick the moment i felt comfortable with someone because my fight or flight mode was constantly up and desperate to latch onto any subtle feeling of safty or comfort. And unfortunately that lead to more trauma because there are bad people in the world who recognize that and take advantage. So ive always sympathized with Katnis over her confusion and conflict and reclusiveness or inability to communicate her feelings and thoughts. All she knows is she loves the people that make her feel safe and she cant figure out the difference between love and romance bc theres to much going on and she simply doesnt have time for it. Her first kiss was to Peeta in the Games when she was souly focused on surviving and seeing her sister again, keeping her sister from starving and dying. That was the only goal. And when she came home she was faced with Gale and Peeta both liking her like what? Lol

    • @RamblersInc
      @RamblersInc  3 месяца назад +4

      That's a good point. Her primary goal was survival and has been since she was young. To deal with the balance of fighting trauma and love/romance at the same time must be too much at times.
      I'm glad you've managed to do so well with your ptsd and I hope you fully make it through your trauma 🙂

    I know that this isn't the most popular of the films, but I think it will always be my favorite. The stakes are real, the consequences are real, and the tactics, behavior and nuance are very real in a way they haven't been in the previous films. I love that the film doesn't sugarcoat the realities of war, including the psychological toll that it takes on any participant.
    If you haven't see Come and See, it's one of the most brutal war films I've ever seen, especially because so many of the effects were real, not faked. I still recommend it, though.

    Great reactions, guys. By the way, Jennifer Lawrence didn't know she could sing either. She had to keep it pretty quiet or soft, but it works. And I agree that Katniss has gotten rather fragile by this point. But that doesn't seem like the right word, as she's the hero of the story, and "fragile" isn't generally a stop along the hero's journey. But one's handle on the path forward can become "tenuous." (Darkest before the Dawn.) And her emotional stability, ability to function, and even sanity are all a bit tenuous at this point, in my opinion.
