Great video my friend, I ordered the KW1 yesterday
Nice! It definitely has it's place in your set!
This could just be me. But when I teach people how to pick locks I start with a lishi. That way they can physically see and feel a binding pin and one that is springy. Also, it lets them feel how little tension is required.
I love the sticker! It is a great design idea.
It is a nice way to show someone to understand how to pick. Similar to a cut away lock, but without them trying to force it still lol
Lishi tension really is something else lol
You might also start out by teaching them how to pick European dimple locks. The pin binding changes are easier to recognize or feel, and overlap nicely when teaching to pick Yale pin cylinder locks.
You just made me feel a lot better for getting both of them-thank you! 😊🙏
Glad I could help!
Same! I was feeling stupid for getting the kw1.
I think that Kwickset did this just to make us buy the two Lishi picks. Thanks for the great video.
It's possible, I don't know if the Lishi was intended to work on a Smart Lock tho haha...
I think when they designed the KW5 it was on the standard wide keyway tho
Odin pointed out a good theory as it may have been to prevent the force attacks
It would make sense why they put that connecting piece below the keyway.
Good thing I ordered both before I heard you could use the KW5 on KW1 locks. I ordered the SC1 and still need to get the SC4.
Just ordered a lishi kw1… can’t wait to try it out
It works on the 1st and 2nd Gen Smart Locks as well! You can check out video [39] and I show you how to decode one with the KW1 Lishi!
How do you identify what gen the kwikset smart lock is?
Ran into this exact situation! Thanks!
Kw1 kw5 sc1 and sc4 all ordered! Can't wait
I find that if you use a 1/2" rotary pick first, the KW5 lishi will slide right in. 😁
Slather the Lishi in Houdini and bacon grease first!
@@LockandKilo Yet another good reason to make some bacon.
@@willie_mccoy Bacon...good.
Would taking the KW5 to a belt sander to thin it out make it universal for both locks ?
Is this width problem the same with the SC4 fitting into an SC1 Smartlock Keyway? Thanks 👍
Thank you! Dang I just bought the KW5 but have Smartlocks in my house.
I wonder if or possibly, they made it narrower to have room to “beef” up the sliders and to minimize the ability to use a heavier force tool?
Now you're gonna have to break out the calipers and do a video comparing generations. 😁
I am not sure, as it's really only for the KW5 Lishi as the KW1 still fits perfectly. I have used the force tools... I use something much, much easier haha.
I am working on making a video to show my favorite way of destructive entry to Smart Locks pretty soon! It doesn't matter what the keyway looks like lol
The Smart Lock Keyway does fit the KW1 key blank better tho, the original keyway has slack, so could've been they designed it up to date.
@@LockandKilo nothing works better than the ole reliable “rotary pick”😉
@@willie_mccoy I think there’s only 12 Gens…
@@odinslockllc I've seen your videos...you got this! 👍
thank you for help
Are those "original Lishi" tools you have? or "Genuine Lishi"? Because I just purchased a "Classic" Lishi KW1, just to try on my Kwikset Smartkey 660 (Gen 2). I have a "Classic" KW5 and it's too wide for Smartkey locks. However, I received the KW1 today and it's also too wide. They are not cheap knockoffs, so I'm confused. Wondering if yours are an older model, or where these are currently available
My KW5 went right into a smart lock. Is there a chance there are different widths?
It's possible that Lishi could've fixed the width issue or that newer gen keyways were widened a bit.
Depending on where you buy the Lishi tool, it can be slightly different. I have a couple Lishi's from bundle's I bought that came with tools I already owned, but side by side they had subtle differences lol
i got a kw1 and it will not fit a smart lock so i order a kw5 i hope that one one will work
👍 good video
KW5 V.2 fits smart keyways.
Interesting! I think this is most commonly found and sold as everyone seems to have this one lol
I no longer use the Lishi for Smart Locks, so I didn't notice they made another lol
@@LockandKilo what do you use for smart locks now?
@@MailMayne The Locktech Decoder tool!

I just bought a KW5 V.2 and it doesn't fit in my Kwikset Smartlocks.
@@tweedeldee8122 mine does. Are you sure you got V2?
Mine fit both, maybe they updated them to fit both.
did you get "original" Lishi? or "Classic Lishi"? lol. It's a bit confusing. I received an "original" Lishi KW1 today, and it's also too wide to fit into my Kwikset 660 smarkey lock (Gen 2). So there are different versions of KW1 out there. Mine are not cheap knockoffs (at least I'm pretty sure they're not). So I'm confused.
I'm not too sure if they are "original " Lishi. But both do fit. I also have double tumbler Kwikset locks that take a thinner key that no other Kwikset keys will fit into at work.
Thats weird. Mine fit just fine in the smart key.
My kw1 will not fit in smart locks
I have heard that a lot from viewers. I have been to a few since this video where my KW1 Lishi didn’t fit until I inserted a blank key into the lock first… for whatever reason it helped every time that was an issue lol
Each time it worked afterward the first cut was deep on each one, so I am guessing that’s part of the problem. I haven’t dug deep enough into it to know for sure yet.
Can you open a Schlage smart lock with an SC1 Lishi tool ?
Unfortunately, you cannot.
This method only works on the early Gen Models. The SC1 Version uses the new sidebar design so it blocks this method.
LockTech is supposedly working on an SC1 blank for their tool so you’ll be able to swap back and forth.
But, as of now many Locksmith’s are just happy that the SC1 version isn’t very popular yet lol
Teen and elderly gap
Let's here back from you all now because your cheater picks don't work on gen 3 and how can you tell which is which? And why does yourtube change my wording after I post?
