Not taking anything away from these incredibly strong guys, but anyone who has powerlifted knows how much difference it makes when you have the luxury of holding excess weight. It is difficult to compare strength apples to apples between these guys and someone who is lean and making weight. These guys are all medically obese. If they lost all that excess water and fat, they would still be incredibly strong but their strength would likely drop off big time. Check out Rick Weil at the 1986 APF Senior Nationals bench 556 raw at 181 lbs with 2 second pause. That is over 3x bodyweight. Somebody duplicating that same bench at 40 lbs heavier would be very impressive. Yes, the lifts in this video are insane. My point is that there are lots of lifts over the years that are, technically speaking, equally if not more insane. It's not just about the weight on the bar. Got to look at who is lifting it.

I used to be a competitive bench press through NASA and USPF. And like everyone else competing I had a single ply bench shirt. Like your friend I couldn't touch my chest without 405 on the bar. I broke several state, national and world records. In a single ply, I did this as a teenager and before I got sick and had to quit I did a 525 in a local meet. At the time my raw bench was 495. So the bench shirt does help but it depends on how the shirt fits you. I only ever used an Inzer advance designs single ply personally. I did that at a body weight of 187 lbs.
