      The problem with the S-400 overachieving in the game compared to real life is because the game can’t really model the S-400’s limitations.
      The main reason why the S-400 is not performing up to spec in Ukraine, besides general Russian incompetence, is power. It is pretty well established that the systems don’t get enough power. So sure. It theoretically has a long range but it can’t actually use that range.
      And that’s hard to model

    I think the 70k altitude limit is making this impossible to simulate. We all know the SR-72 would be 90,000+ and at that height most missile will lose a lof of energy before they get to the target

    • @Yaivenov
      @Yaivenov Год назад +4

      Plus the additional time to maneuver will increase the energy required to make the intercept. The low altitude is a double whammy in favor of the missile.

    This mod is forgetting one important thing. ECM's. The blackbird used ECMs's heavily and those systems heald up their end of the equation for keeping them from getting shot down, some of the systems were called "BLUE DOG", "MAD MOTH", "PIN PEG" and "BIG BLAST".
    The SR-72 would be untouchable if the creator added some of these kinds systems for the pilot to weaponize against those plebians down below. It's a trifecta of Speed, Altidude and ECM's all working together.

    According to Yuri Ignat, spokesman of the Ukrainian Air Force, the US are planning to deliver AIM-120 AMRAAM to the Ukrainian forces. He also adds that the range of those missiles will be 160-180km, which points to the AIM-120D version.
    In combination with F-16 this is going to be a powerful standoff weapon.

Other thought would be to throttle back and drop altitude to gain maneuverability as the misses get close but it would not be ideal. My suspicion of in-game S-400 overperformance isn't really based off any flight characteristics, it's based off all the smouldering craters that popped up on protected Russian-soil military assets around the same time 8 HIMARS showed up in Ukraine 😂
    Not even HIMARS, there were Mi-24s in Belgorod and Tu-141s in Engels, certainly sounds ridiculous, but less ridiculous than Ukraine having something that could defeat multiple S-400 systems as they are claimed on paper.

    How somebody can say that S-400 is under performing when Ukrainian aircraft is not flying near the frontlines at all? Where S-400 is deployed, it seems to be working fine. Especially being a high value target for Ukraine by itself. It's vulnerable against small composite drones, especially in swarms, but there is nothing in the world effective against those for now.

The only thing Ukraine had was GMLRS, there's absolutely nothing special about GMLRS rockets, so any S-400 system shouldn't have any trouble stopping the 2 to 4 HIMARS units that attack targets together.
      More to the point; the S-400 is put in places to protect important things, and when those important things explode then that's usually a good sign the thing doing the protecting failed.

      GMLRS age usually just jammed, because GPS is their main weakness. As for shooting down GMLRS , drones and missiles, there are Pantsirs and TORs for that. GMLRS is doing nothing now.
