The NBA wouldn’t be as popular right now if not for that finals. It got a lot of eyes on the sport and created so many storylines that have been interesting as hell to follow.
Bro I'm glad you mentioned the 2016 wcf, the Thunder were lowkey the favorite to come out the west and were destroying the warriors before they collapsed. Can't believe it's been 7 years already tho

@@countmusa1074 It's possible they might not have but think about some of the main issues they struggled with the previous Finals, outside of the Draymond suspension. Interior protection. David West was still one of the best big men in the league in the low post and McGee was a serious upgrade from Ezeli at the backup who had also just come back from a long injury in the Finals when Bogut went down. Pachulia was also tough and would help them to be able to bang with Cleveland. Had Barnes re-signed with the team I don't think he would've been as quiet two Finals straight (he really was almost ineffective the entire playoffs that year and might have been dealing with an injury or fatigue because his play was just off the entire postseason) Personal opinion, the Warriors were coming back stronger either way...
2016 changed everything not just in NBA and sports history but modern human history as a whole, politically and culturally I think it was one of the most important years of the new millennium.
Yet Russ has never come close to having that same success without him than with him. We all know that their personalities are different, but I think for Russ, that has to be the case if he ever wants to win a title on any team
I think the biggest thing you didn’t mention was that 2016 solidified Lebron as a top 2-3 (depending on how people value Kareem/Shaq generally) player where before that you had more people doubting his overall spot. 2016 I feel gave Lebron a legitimate case for the GOAT that he didn’t have before and will shape discussions around Lebron’s career for generations.
@@youraverage90sguys7 if you value dominance over competition you could make an argument for Shaq being above Lebron pre 2016. I wouldn’t make it but it was there. Dude, the Spurs would have beaten the Warriors in the WCF had KD not joined GSW in 2017... I doubt they would have signed Zaza either if KD didn't go to GSW because they would still have their 73-9 core team... KD left westbrook because Westbrook is and has always been a ball dominant high usage player. The joke that circulated during KDs later years in OKC (when he was racking up scoring titles) was that Russ was the only player that could stop KD by not passing him the ball. Probably the most insightful video I've seen from u Swish. I would think that most NBA fans definitely think about the 2016 Finals as being impactful. But no one really thinks about as to how many layers deep it goes. 💡 🤔
I think it gets slept on how the 2016 finals affected the regular season. After the warriors pushed for 73-9, then kinda hobbled and stumbled thru the playoffs just to lose in the finals due to just looking tired, roughed up, and out of gas, no one really cared about the regular season anymore
I grew up a huge fan of the NBA. Loved it. I lost interest in it when Jordan retired the 2nd time. Barely kept up with the NBA. But my son got me back watching during the 2016 finals and that one series has made the NBA make up most of the entertainment I consume. It had definitely brought me back to the sport I grew up loving.
2016 probably the greatest year of all time in general tbh but definitely for basketball. That was the first finals I ever really paid close attention to. Haven't looked back since.
People don’t understand for some reason everything was peaking at the end of December 2015 with games, music, sport, tv, and jus what was on the news. It was jus about how to get a fidget spinner😂
2016 changed the NBA more significantly than any other season since 2010. KD signing with Golden State helped them of course, but they could still be in a similar position to now any number of ways. It just so happens we live in a world where this happens and we can see the current benefits.
I think another element that you couldve added in, but understandably so didnt, is how that incredible warriors team being 24-0 sparked the championship aspirations for the milwaukee bucks. The bucks had gotten the 7th game in a 7 game east road trip, in which a team has never gone 7-0 in NBA history and the warriors were 6-0. Bucks literally made 24-1 shirts, it was arguably a top 10 most important regular season games in nba history because of that and because Giannis was emerging as a young star in the league back then. The bucks winning that game felt like a surreal playoff experience and honestly, it started a sort of Rivalry the Bucks have with Golden State now. If not for the Warriors greatness, I dont know if the Bucks ever become the team they are today

KD to the Warriors was the best thing that happened in 2016 (unless you're a hater). Only problem I see with this theory is kyrie loyalty and accepting his role but if he did they would most likely three peat because they came close in 2015 without two of their improtant teammates and 2016 obviously winning so yea I agree you but there would always be a question mark for kyrie
Cavs got screwed in 2015 and made things right in 2016.

@@Zoot004 KD snapped his Achilles in the one game he played in the 2019 Finals, and was injured for the WHOLE 2020 season!
@@twilitezn *was injured for the WHOLE 2019 season! Anyways, KD went to The Nets in the 2020 season.
@@Zoot004 No....he was injured for the FULL 2019-20 season, and Klay was out Fall 2019 - Late Fall 2021...KD was injured in the 2019 Houston series, didn't play in the WCF, and then tore his achilles in G3 of the Finals.
@@twilitezn No... The 2019 NBA Season took place in the years 2019-20. Reread *MY* previous reply. Anyways, you stated in *YOUR* previous reply that KD "was injured for the WHOLE 2020 season" which is incorrect because that season took place in the years 2020-21. Also, I did not specifically claim when Klay was out... Why are you attempting to correct me for statements that I did not claim?
Wow! Your in-depth analogy makes more sense than what the media does. And that last graphic comparison of KD and Steph’s careers with and without one another sealed the debate. I don’t think KD should be in the top 10 as of now. The playoffs winning percentages made it clear. Steph gave KD a career boost.
lebron proved he was one of the all time greats by beating a 73 win powerhouse. After this title, nobody can ever argue lebron isn’t top 3
And averaged a lower plus/minus than Kyrie and didn’t even hit the game closing shot. Yeah, ok.
GS won 2016 cavs win 2015 both had injured
@@officialconch yup niggas will always try to discredit bron but that’s the price of bein great
@@AJ-nf3bn no the warriors won in the 2014-2015 season the Cavs won in the 2015-2016 season
@@officialconch triple double hit the free throw to sill it with less than 24 seconds left compared to Kyrie hitting that shot with 1 minute left
Those two series paired with the series the 76ers lost to the KL shot are defs the most impactful on the NBA shape
2016 might be the greatest finals in the past 10 years no doubt about that. But 2019 could be that also just saying.
F Lebron.
