  • New beekeeper finds success with this monster hive! I had the chance to assist Lynn, my Hives for Heroes Mentee, as she inspected her amazing honey bee hive that we sent her home with in the Endurahive equipment from Greg ‪@NaturesImageFarmGregBurns‬. It was so much fun to witness Lynn experiencing success!

    i think the best option is to extract those filled frames so that the bee can get back some built combs. For a hive that strong built comb is a gem to have to help hold off swarm impulse when they start running out of usable space to put away food.

    • @brucesbees
      @brucesbees  4 месяца назад +1

      Great plan. She actually did extract that honey and now has some beautiful liquid gold honey. Exciting stuff!

    Are all Hawaiian queens that gentle or only that particular gene source? I hadn't heard people talking about those before. But it sounds interesting. Just having the reassurance of something gentle would be very nice, since many of us live in Africanized areas where... its not common but some africanized gene exposure is possible.

    • @brucesbees

    Nice population of bees from what I guess was basically a new 5 frame nuc plus a new Hawaiian queen put into deep boxes with drawn comb and foundation. The Endura Hive and Puracell foundation looks great Greg and Bruce. Yes I would also take those mostly capped deep honey frames off to be extracted and replace with more foundation. They seemed like they would be farm fair festival quality in an one frame observation viewing box with a blue ribbon attached to it! Wonder if they needed a little more ventilation with so many bees on the outside of her lower boxes. An upper entrance maybe? Great brood patterns and hive disposition within the colony. Would have been nice to see the queen, if she was marked, and a couple of milk larvae frames with eggs too. God job Lynn and to all those who were involved in getting such a terrific looking hive and bunch of honeybees to her in this particular moment of the season. Thanks for sharing and filming this adventure. :) 🐝

      Thanks for checking in. I actually reached out to Lynn after the fact to recommend she stagger the top box forward just a bit like I do on my hives when queen excluders are in place. That will hopefully help with ventilation. Lynn was able to harvest 60 pounds of honey this past weekend. Very cool!

  • @scottreese5492

    Id drop 2 to 3 starter strips between broob, and take frames removed and combine with weaker hive , shes fixing to have probably 30-50k more bees. Wow what a great hive. Probably vent the lid too if nectar flow still good.and take that feeder out. Definitely extract honey and put box back on

    • @brucesbees
      @brucesbees  4 месяца назад

      She was able to extract already and ended up with 60 pounds of honey. Not sure if it all cabe from this hive or if she got a little from others too. Nice honey pull. She is doing a good job.

    Bruce I was wondering with the honey stick machine that you've got do you get much use out of that? Do you think it's worth the money I think it's very expensive you gotta make a heck of a lot of honey sticks to recoup your initial invesmith your thoughts

    • @brucesbees
      @brucesbees  4 месяца назад

      Yeah I think it’s worth it. If you don’t have a lot to make I would get the second machine. It works well. But for a lot of sticks the first one does ok. There is a learning curve for sure but I think it’s worth it. Have an order for 300 I need to get done over the next couple of days!
