Hi Rick, You and Trent certainly encountered some pretty hard core roads during your trip out to Dos Hermanos mine. Your filming went really well, showing how both cars handled the conditions. As a result, it was a very interesting video of your day's adventures. I'm looking forward to seeing some of this amazing scenery for real with you sometime! Regards, Martin
Kind of wild to think how the mine had been dormant for nearly 60-70 years…the silence and quietness of nobody there, out in the middle of nowhere…forgotten and left to history
Fascinating journey Rick! You make me nervous about you in the mine. I am claustrophobic so I can't go into tight places like that and I worry about collapse of those things. Watching too many movies. At least you don't have indians to worry about. Glad everything went smoothly for both cars!!!
Thank you Dave. Its funny about small spaces and caves etc for me. While working or doing something it doesn't bother me in the slightest. Strangely, when I watch something on tv or when lying in bed thinking about that stuff it creeps me out. :) No idea why. We had a great time!
@@AZdroptop Do you make several videos like this still? Even though I have a channel regarding Music, I do love the outdoors and I do love to go off road. Or at least watch others do it.
I make them when I can get out and about. I 'retired' from the fire department in December, but seem to be busy with my part time job than I was before LOL. There are quite a few off road videos with my Crosstrek in that playlist, but it has been awhile since I got out in the Jeep. Hoping to do more this Summer. Here is one I did not too long ago. ruclips.net/video/87z9UsTubCE/видео.html
You mentioned it but I will re-emphasize the importance of not going into abandoned mines. A good friend lost his small daughter who fell into a vertical shaft. Trying to rescue her the grandfather descended a ladder into that shaft. They were both overcome by toxic fumes in the vertical shaft and perished.
I own a 2021 Subaru crosstrek limited with the 2.5 engine. Great car. But I don't think it is made for serious rock crawling off roading. For that you need a Jeep or Range Rover.
Jeff, agreed. I love my little Crosstrek, but ended up with the Jeep just to make life a bit easier off road. Have you driven an earlier model and if so, what do you think about the addition of the 2.5L? I have not had the chance to drive one yet.
@@gulong612 Look up the Torq-Master Torq Locker for the Ascent. Someone on the Ascent forums is upgrading their offroad setup with one. I own a 2023 Ascent and we are also building it for offroad. So far only wheels, tires and skidplates. Next is Prinsu rack and then a 2" lift. Last will be removing the front bumper to gain some approach angle. We've driven a lot offroad already in the cascade mountains and it does phenomenal in dirt, rocks and snow. Skid plates are a must with stock suspension though, it bounces too much and we've hit the ground many times. Eventually stiffer springs and better lift will make a huge difference I think.
Here is a link to one of the videos I did on them. It should answer all of your questions. If not, I have a few videos in my playlist that should be helpful.ruclips.net/video/gJx8drqxH-g/видео.html
Trent Nichols, your Ascent is purrty and I’m a bit jealous that you have such beautiful land to navigate. My Zippy (Crosstrek) used to be a high miles highway driver but is now a driveway sitter thanks to Covid era work from home. Be safe and have fun!
I would say it could handle most of it, Thee are a couple of areas where having the lift and under protection is a good idea and I'm torn as to if I would try it in a stock Ascent. I am leaning heavily to I would not. :) I''ll see if I can get Trent to weigh in on it. A big issue would be the wheel and tire set up as well.
Subarus are phenomenal cars and have legit all wheel drive, but I’m not sure I understand investing in so much off road gear if it’s that limited. It’s a personal choice I guess but I just don’t like the idea of going into unfamiliar trails without a feeling of confidence.
Totally understand where you are coming from and ultimately, that is why I bought a Jeep. I am still amazed at how well they can do off road in certain situations, but you are right on.
It’s totally personal choice, some people are willing to give up some on road comfort and safety so they can have a no compromise off-roader like a Jeep or a bronco. It would be amazing if Subaru came out with a no compromise off-roader, but considering there commitment to on road safety and the CVT transmission. I’m doubtful that they will introduce a true competitor to the bronco or Wrangler.
Hey my friend. :) Glad you made it to that part. LOL I couldn't resist. Can ask a stupid question? How do you do the link with the time "as the link"? I know how to link to a specific place in a video, but I have never been able to figure out how to change the link to my text. How you are doing great and thank you!
@@AZdroptop I'm not going to get a CrossTrek after all like I planned. I'm going to build a Lexus GX470 into a overland rig instead. The GX470 is a lot more capable than a CrossTrek on off-road for less money. Maybe, you can show me some off-road adventures when I visit my good friends in Tucson next year. instagram.com/p/Bx5yDxYgtov/?igshid=ckihohw2y71c
Awesome! Best of luck with the build and definitely let me know when you are coming out to visit Tucson. There are so many choices around and I would love to take you out and about. We can probably even drag Trent along with us. :)
It looks like you and Trent had a good day. Thanks for sharing your adventure!
Thank you Steve. Definitely a fun day.

Me too Martin! So much for us to explore when you come to the states. Cheers my friend.

Definitely! I always wonder how they knew a good area to even search for a good place to mine?

That’s a truly sweet review! Loved it!

Good times.
What kind of tires does the Ascent have?
Perrelli Scorpions. Here is a link.www.pirelli.com/tires/en-us/car/catalog/product/scorpion-atr/265_60-r18
Hi lift jack on a Subaru 😂 I think any jack should work 🤣 always nice video Rick.
Thanks Mike. It was a blast. Hope all is well with you.👍
*The CVT has no place in an offroad vehicle. I've owned one since 2013 and It just doesn't cut it.*
They are a bit limiting for sure.
Dude tell me about it. I own a 2019 ascent and Its definitely this vehicles Achilles heel. I absolutely love it otherwise.
CVT has changed a lot now a day. CVT is not the limit. What Subaru need is locker.

Dos Hombres is two men; you went to Dos Hermanos, two brothers.
use a lever to move that rock
with traction control on car basically stops it self,
Very cool vid!
Thank you so much! Much appreciated.

Thanks as always Deb. Not sure about the Jeep, but I'll check. LOL
HAHA! I wouldn't rule it out one day but for now, I am Subaru all the way still. :)
