I have newly discovered Marten Root as the phenomenal musician he is on Traverso Flute, and I have to give him my tribute for his playing in this wonderful solo Bach. This is wonderful playing! And 15 minutes almost in heaven.

Maestro Root, hartelijk dank voor je geweldige uitvoeringen waar we dankzij het internet van kunnen genieten en dit nog meer dan in een concertzaal omdat we de precieze stand van de mond kunnen volgen en onszelf kunnen corrigeren. Some years ago I discovered the fact, that every orchestral music until the mid 19th centure was composed for wooden flute, I did not know that before. Only then I understood how beautiful this instrument is.
Wonderful. Thanks to all who have been involved in this performance: first to M. Root and his masterful interpretation, then to Bach and his music, to the sound and video engineers, to the NBS and its Bach Project and finally to the craftsman who made that flute with such a beatiful sound
Not many players can perform this piece by heart. Not only the interpretation, but the work of remembering is a great achievement, and the courage to perform completely solo.
all semi-serious flutists know this piece by memory - it's arguably one of the most important pieces for a flutist nowadays to know, and everyone learns it in university if they hadn't already learned it before
Many thanks to the Netherlands Bach Society for their continual work towards bringing the elegance and the flare of Bach’s music. Beautiful work. This recording is magnificent and Mr. Root has done a tremendous job with the piece.
Wow! His Sarabande takes my breath away. So sensitive! And his ornamentation in the repeat, even though complex, fits smoothly into the piece seamlessly, as if it were written that way. I love the mellow sound of the instrument. As a bonus, he has the body language to match his sensitive dynamics. This is my new role model for playing that piece.
It is the slight (and controlled) intonation deviations of some notes that gives this performance such amazing character. Such a beautiful sound, invites to meditation.
I'm imagining myself watching an art film where the audience members are statues... This partita lends itself well to abstraction... Such a haunting masterpiece!! Thank you NBS!
I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the NBS and their fantastic performances, which they incessantly share with us for free. The quality and variety this channels provides is amazing. May Bach always be with you all!
Incredible - each note has presence, and the performance as a whole has a structure and flow. Also, I learn a lot from the comments on these videos, with regards to history, performance, and theory behind the music of Bach, which is a wonderful thing in itself.
It is not easy to achieve that pure and natural tone of the instrument in baroque and at the same time so expressive music. Bach's music is beautifully complicated. In the interpretation is simply perfect is a teacher of the instrument.

He’s playing a French baroque flute at French pitch… I’m pretty sure. I didn’t realize that’s historically ok to do. I suppose since all music was once new at a time when there already were certain styles of instruments, i could actually play all of Bach’s flute pieces on a delicious low pitched French flute and nobody can tell me “that’s not historically correct”. Oh how beautiful and happy.
This is one of the least things to be worried about, this doesn't bother so much. Also the baroque violin family does a lot of noise too and this is no problem.
It bothers me. It’s the the thing you work on, so the music can sing and not sound like a beat box, which admittedly has its own charms. Yes, slamming keys down is very disruptive to the illusion of legato. The other thing that’s very difficult on flute is not popping the keys open. So the tone is always matching the ones next to it.

To me, it is amazing how great this composition sounds played in other instruments such as the saxophones.
I'm so glad that I didn't learn the saxophone now, to be honest. It makes me think of Shannon Tweed films.
The clarinet and flute are much nicer in my opinion.
I can't imagine this piece on a sax at all.
This performance is superb. Odd to think that this amazing composition survived in a single copy.
A wonderful and masterful performance of a dedicated musician!
many many thanks to NBS !!!!!!!!! excellent performance !!!
Wereld cultuur erfgoed Super !
Some very interesting phrasing that you don’t normally hear on this piece. I like it!
Fico surpresa com o quanto de música eu conheço que ni fundo são músicas clássicas 😂

The Best Music never dies ...
Brilliant music from Bach.Good job man!
Brilliant, as always.
Your concerts are a beacon of hope and a rock of confidence.
In Brazil, a Funker used that piece in the funk introducing. He made a great hit in Brazil and abbroad. And Bach didn't charge copyright!
ahn ! vai bum bum tan tan
And I thought it was my mind playing tricks!
I heard the thing, it's a large piece of shit ...
@@edelahaye the piece of shit is you, fuck off
For the dummys, that is not bumbum tamtam. That is Bach! Bach is perfect, not an funker!
I feel peace and simple live. Human tend to overthink about life. Why we just sit down and listen this melody and appreciate all small thing. We can't control all thing, and let it be.
Incredible performance! So many performers simply don’t get the phrasing of each movement, especially the first!
This is absolutely gorgeous. Thank you to NBS and Marten Root.
Simply wonderful
An excellent interpretation and performance. I also like that even the visual presentation is appropriate. Some classical music musicians look like birds swooping and diving and flapping and.... There is an appropriate amount of body movement here but not too much.
