    Step 1: Bethesda insists they don't need to change game engines, continues using Creation Engine, a patchwork of a patchwork of a patchwork.
    Step 2: Bethesda's next game is missing features it desperately needed. Bethesda cites 'engine limitations'.
    Step 3: Repeat for eternity.

    • @Thiccubus
      @Thiccubus Год назад +16

      Consider: the ONLY person that could make an engine in/for Bethesda's realm 'left' [insert your flavortext here] and now, they only know how to keep it running: doing patch jobs.
      Yes, this *is* a Mechanicus : Strider allegory. Because, fondness aside for both -- it's kinda pathetic, too.

      It isn't engine limitations, stop blaming the engine. Bethesda just aren't the devs they used to be

    • @Thiccubus
      @Thiccubus Год назад +14

      @@alien0gamer139 My guy, it's both -- The engine has been *looked* into and torn apart and optimized where possible for multiple games. Stewie and Wall both note that it's the same structure and Starfeild is just an incomprehensible mess of spaghetti code *way* worse than 4 was, which is worse than Skyrim, which is *slightly* worse than New Vegas was, which is worse than 3 was which is actually on par with Oblivion -- somehow no degredation of quality there -- which is worse than Morrowind was.
      It's both.
      The engine builder left, and up until Skyrim or so it had talent it slowly bled off, but none of them knew how to -- or cared to -- properly fix the engine from the ground up. It's not even 'Ship of Theseus'ing it; they're not really replacing or optimizing the old code no matter what anyone officially says.

      @@franciscoOrellana29 It was mandatory Fallout 4 onwards. Hell it was *mandatory* with the shitshow of 76. Definitely so with *this* -- yet it just got a new serving of spaghetti slapped atop the old and had a new name plastered onto it. Boilerplate style.
      I wholeheartedly agree with you, of course, yet unless you (The royal you) want to be the one we build a statue for and traipse into Bethy's [redacted totally innocuous minecraft words] Todd himself, you might gotta get used to them not caring and doing what even a half-decent braindead slug thinks is mandatory much less reasonable people would. Remember: Starfield is **THE** shining example of Todd's passion project since before he joined Bethesda. Starfield is his *Magnum Opus* This is *beyond* the benchmark... and you see where *it* landed. 👀
      Or, just don't buy the next game.
      On/off topic mini-rant: Fucked as FNV's Legion is, Inculta ain't wrong with his "They outnumbered us but just went along with it" in a lot of contexts, but specifically here in terms of buying the game and funding them. You (the royal you) reward them for shit jobs.
      So, don't like the quality they put out? Don't buy it.
      Or/and Yarr it.

    13:37 the reason that hasn't been "fixed" is because it is intentional, they have their own invisible ammo type that does not run out, the ammo you give them is just a suggestion, reason for this? Easier on the engine.

    They are just creatively bankrupt man. The game's systems are all disjointed or ultimately pointless. It's like almost no thought was put into it and they just worked their asses off (the game is ambitious in some respects by Beth standards but all that effort seems moot). Ships but you can't really actually meaningfully fly them besides grav-jumping or combat and do anything meaningful in them, it's just an illusory customizable loading screen/base, so what's the point? Rigid outpost building that isn't worth the trouble because the resource economy is so forgiving and excellent legendary weapons will eventually just drop, so what's the point? 1000+ planets to see, but the proc-gen methods are barely Minecraft tier so you'll see the same fucking shit all the time from a studio who's always been served better with handcrafted content. Bad planning, even bleeds into the story, NG+ has you go into a new universe for little additional reactivity yet lose all your gear just to push home the point that in an infinite universe your choices will never matter so what's the point? It feels design by committee, but at the same time the devs have come forward saying that almost all decisions have to go through Todd so is his vision just that safe and narrow? Ia Bethesda game where all the "freedom" has been watered down to a point where the most engaging thing to do is play as a linear game, running around the four hubs doing menial bullshit and following the quest marker. You CAN explore but there is nothing to see outside of the handcrafted content which is relegated to the hubs, which make the game feel even smaller! Whereas the devs who weren't known for making open-world games back when it was really just Rockstar and BGS are now doing it better....
    Why did they make this? Why did they take so long to make this? I just don't get it man. Terrible execution on decent ideas... They have to shake it up on TES VI

    Starfield and Fallout 76 are the reason I'm not buying the next Elder Scrolls game. It's going to be dogshit. You know it's going to be dogshit. We all do. Elder Scolls Online is proof that they don't respect the lore or care about the setting AT ALL. They literally retconned half the interesting things in the lore away, like the Altimer capital city being made of glass, as "propaganda," so they could just copy paste castles and mud huts for everything. Fallout 76 and paid mods proved that they don't respect the community, and in fact actually hate us all. And Starfield was, indeed an ATTEMPT to make a good game. A new franchise, even. And it's proved that they can't. They cannot make a good game now. So ES6 is dead. Accept it, move on, and find peace.

The only way I could actually enjoy the game was by focusing on the main questlines because everything else is worthless filler that doesn't matter. In skyrim and fallout you can go in any direction and you might find something interesting. In starfield landing in random locations is meaningless because you'll find the the same 10 structures with either pirates or mercenaries with the same random loot that is worthless once you have a higher leveled version of it.
    Also the interface is a nightmare. They couldn't even be bothered to make a functional map for the few cities in the game.

    I might be called a shill, but after more than 360 hours on the game and about to go into ng+3 (new game +3) I genuinely don’t understand how Seth’s video can even remotely be considered when talking about the general experience of the game, I’ve explored every solar system, tried to play all the major quests and side quests, and I have so few major bugs that I can safely say that this is among the most polished games Bethesda has released to date, and generally the story is a little short but the point of the game is to take your time with everything, I can guarantee that Seth didn’t even do much with all the companions because most of them (most) have some interesting backstories and their interactions with the player (to me) feel more real compared to companions in previous games, all in all this game is meant to be taken slow, and in my opinion it’s for people who already have an interest in space and space travel, lots of the planets are barren sure, but that’s realistic, the game is more or less representing a realistic universe, I’d say just the exploration alone is the most defining feature and is in fact what the player faction is all about.

      @@Skyte100 response: pretty much, I do enjoy the leveling system a lot though, much better than Skyrim’s or Fallout 4’s leveling systems, having to actually do something relevant to the skill in order to improve it is nice.
      The combat is about what you’d expect but at least on normal, the enemies aren’t bullet sponges (at least no where near the amount they were in Fallout 4), so long as you use the right weapon.
      The cities are probably the best they’ve ever been from Bethesda, they actually feel like cities instead of small villages.

    The thing is that Sseth does have valid arguments but as he said at the end the game isnt that bad, he is just bait it gives you choices and impact of those choices, character are more on morally good side but that dosnt mean they are horrible they are decently written with some nice companion quests. etertaning both space combat and ground combat and some epic faction quests.
    Glitches are still there but they are more rare then review lead you to belive since usualy they are just yoinked from early game versions or stolen from youtube or some that are just straight up lies spawned with console commands.
    The arguments of there being allot of loading screen and having some npcs like the board be unkillabe are still valid crtisism tho.

      yeah the UC main questline is good imo and also I think so many people focus just on Sarah Morgan but there are way better companions like Andreja, who's way better written and feels more like an actual person. Also the Adoring fan is in this game which automatically makes it a 10/10

    I've played Starfield for around 50 hours and I haven't encountered many bugs except the usual Bethesda game shenanigans like npcs glitching out and stuff like that but I always find that fun rather than some people who get annoyed at that shit, like bruh npcs in bethesda games have always been goofy. like before in bethesda games npcs being goofy just became memes but now as soon as a minor thing happens it's suddenly the worst thing ever and some big problem with the game. yeah i get it if you get mad at game breaking shit (i do too) but if you get mad at minor things like i just described before i think there's something wrong with you because it's just fun. and if you think i sound biased yeah i am, im a big fan of bethesda games, their main gameplay loop is just so fun to me.

      It has the same issues as Morrowind.
      The same bugs present in Morrowind (2 thousand f-ing 3) are present in Starfield.
      In two decades, they've done absolutely nothing to improve their engine outside of some slightly prettier graphics. Their AI is downright awful, easily abused and exploited, as well.
      Outside of their garbage engine (I make mods for Fallout 4, I know the ins and outs of the CK), they won't do anything to improve SIMPLE game design. Their story writing is absolutely atrocious on top of that.
      Look at the difference in how games treat the player between Morrowind and now. It's night and day, and completely painful.
