You guys should provide more detailed wiring video for the MMI Prime installation. Despite following the instructions and this video, the audio, rear camera, heads-up display and idrive touchscreen are not functioning after the installation in my 2019 5 series. I recommend improving after-sales service. The claim that the device is "plug and play" doesn't align with my experience. Additionally, the authorization dealers asking 1.5k for installation seems excessive. I still haven't find the solution for issues. Being a Android lover, I never thought about getting an iPhone. But dealing with MMI Prime and it's installation is a headache. I'd say go for an iPhone - it's simpler and saves money.
Hey there! Thanks for letting us know about the issues. 1. As you already acknowledged - the problem might be connected with lack of fiber-optic connection to the head unit. 2. As for the "plug&play" aspect doubts - we provide all the instructions and additional wires and mountings to make it as easy to install as possible. 3. As far as we are concerned you are in touch with our support team. They are actively helping you to solve the issue. 4. We are DIY-focused business and our products are designed in the way people can install them by themselves. All recommended installers are independent companies and BimmerTech FZE accepts no responsibility for the work performed by any installer, authorized or not. If you have any additional questions, please hit us up, we are here to help you :)
Seems as if you messed up some connections in the video and edited it out. i just tried to install mine and followed your video completely but the connectors are incorrect and dont fit. the Pink video cable wont fit in the head unit and isnt long enough to run to the foot well. not sure what to do.
Android wifi mirroring only works for a short time? There are three warning messages that the WiFi connection is unstable and then it breaks after 10 minutes, what wifi problem? The car is BMW F32 year 2017?
Hello, could you provide your VIN or order number first? When performing the mirroring process on an Android phone, please make sure that it is connected via cable to the MMI and that you're not connected via WiFi or Bluetooth to any other device (this may cause the interruption of signal, thus blocking the possibility to mirror anything).
@bimmer-tech Ok, great, I just got a 2017 G30 and would like to do a few upgrades, android auto, remote start and blind spot system. And I can drive to Orlando as I live not far, in Fort Lauderdale.
I have irrelevant question to this video. Hope you guys answer me. I noticed At 5:57 the dashboard has the parking light on that says PARK and on top of it it has the P shape circle. My g30 has only the big P with circle active only. But when I did the system test the PARK did light up. Is there a way to activate the PARK word along with the Circular P Also I noticed there is additional ones BREAK, ABS lights that mine has the shapes active not the words. Hope you help me with this as I want it active them. Thanks.
Please provide us with your car’s VIN and we will be able to confirm if there is something possible to do something on your vehicle to change this, you can contact us at www.bimmer-tech.net/page-contact
The Surround View will still work with the MMI installed but it would need to be operated via the iDrive. Both Front and Rear cameras can be activated from the MMI directly.
My 2018 530i already has CarPlay active. However, as I also carry an android phone, is this compatible with my existing factory installations so I can switch back-and-forth between both phones or will your system replace my BMW system with CarPlay
Hey Phillip! Yes, our MMI Prime is compatible with your existing factory installations. In fact, you can say that you will have CarPlay “twice” each has its own way of connection therefore it won’t happen that you are connected to both at the same time. So it's all possible :) Cheers mate!
The only coding it may require is Aux coding, but you'd have to enter your VIN here to check if it's necessary for your exact model: www.bimmer-tech.net/category-android-auto-mmi-retrofit You can purchase via our website. We deliver all over the world free of charge.
PSA - Okay, this video is hella misleading. The installation is wrong. I have a bmw g30 and attempted this installation by myself because theres no certified installer near me. You need an extra cable (HSD extension to do this installation) see 9:55, the isntaller started cutting back the black tape around a different bunch of cables that didnt come from the LCD touch screen. The factory video cable is not long enough to go all the way through the 'void of darkness’. See at 11:18 the installer is not pulling the factory video cable (which is the shorter purple one sitting towards the left) but another pink HSD cable that was initially connected to the Head unit. Not sure why you have to mislead DIY enthusiasts. Poor form bimmertech. Shit video.
As for the first part in 9:55: You'd need to remove the tape and the retainer to be able to maneuver with the OEM LCD cable, otherwise it is too short as it is attached to another bunch of cables. For 11:18: our colleague used a NEW LCD cable (not the OEM from the car), he used the cables we used for HU retrofits since for the place he put the MMI, the OEM one will not reach. It is a thing with G01 from what I know, customers manage to install it close to the screen using the OEM LCD cable.
No, I can clearly see that the pink cable you inserted into LCD-in is the same pink cable that was bundled up with 2 other hsd cables (white and orange) which were attached to the head unit. Why was your colleague cutting the tape back for that cable bundle when there's no need to do that whatsoever? You don't need to alter any cable that goes into the head unit at all! And when you're making a video tutorial on the installation, which people are going to follow, why did you not care to mention to people that you are using a different cable or whatever poor explanation you gave me ? Why make all these decisions behind the scenes when people are going to try following this crappy video as an instructions manual? It's definitely a pain in the ass to cutback the tape from the factory HSD cable as it's super short and there's no room to actually cut back the tape. I don't suggest anyone to attempt cutting any tape from the wiring harness at all Just admit that you didn't include all the cables needed to do a smooth 'plug and play' installation. And only you know why you chose to deceive in this video. I'll say it again - POOR FORM, bimmertech. Anyway, anyone trying to install this should order two Z type male to female 6 pin HSD video cables. And then you'll be able to do this installation cleanly, without cutting back any tape or anything else. That would be truly plug and play.
We value your opinion and sorry that the video is misleading to you. We do however think our kits are plug&plays and with instructions we provide the customers should be able to install the products themselves. Nevetheless, your point of view might be valid for some people :) Cheers!
@@bimmer-tech so you make a video to show how to install it into a G30 but don't actually include the cables you show being installed in the kit? In a G30 you really need to purchase two 50cm 4+2 pin HSD LVDS male to female cables to allow the box to sit under the glovebox panel. Aliexpress Bevotop cable store has them for about £15 / $20.
@@eastwood978hi, why would two additional male to female cables be required ? Isn’t one cable enough to extend from the side taken out from the screen into mmi and then use the one video cable already provided with the mmi, from mmi to screen? Have you tried the extension, did this work for you? Thanks
@@bimmer-tech the device is very slow. the image does not flow while driving. you see it's faltering. It's cheap build quality inside. So, not worth the money. I took it out of the car.

Hmm. Where is the MMI at 15:47???
its reversed

The footwell panel doesn't fit back on after install. And in your video you don't have the mmi installed when you put it back on.
How did you rig it and route everything to get the footwell panel back on flush? I've been at it hours and can't seen to get it

We always recommend doing so! :D
What about aux or usb audio Connection ? Thanks
