- This is a Royal Australian Navy recruitment film produced in 1979 . It was created with an aim to recruit the youth of Australia to a 'modern' navy.
The film featured Lieutenant Commander Henry 'Nobby' Hall. Sadly, LCDR Hall passed away on Sunday, 25 June 2017 aged 95.
This cine film has been placed online as part of the Sea Power Centre - Australia’s ongoing archival digitisation program.
Love this video, thank you for making and sharing. Reminds me of my Time back in England in the Royal Navy in the 60s and 70s
so many memories (mostly good) and many familiar faces. RIP Nobby.....a gentleman
04/10/2022 Whilst never joining the RAN I was always interested in their ships, helicopters etc. I went to Nowra airshow a number of time, as well. Nice to see a film of the good old ships, as they were part of Australia's defence for years. My daughter served with the Navy and she has many things to remember; some good and some not so good.
Once A Sailor always a Sailor Always A Sailor 1963 to 1972.
Recognised the wharf and breakwater at JB - who could forget that. Another oldie was the magazine "Australian Post"..........we had .303's and Thompson sub-machine guns in the old days
pretty funny really - that was the sweet spot having joined in 76 -(march in) did a further 26 years -
Lots of memories, not that much had changed in 1986 when I joined! Although my first sea posing was to the almost brand new HMAS Darwin.
To see shark-we flying again was nice.
I wonder if we’d ever see a remake
Wish my father was still alive.
yeah, my Dad was at joined about 1960 and retired as a Warrant Officer. The Navy was in his blood till he died.
Just a tad different to the '39/'45 stoush!!
Any one know who the sparker from Watson is
glad i served when i did 66-87 couldn`t handle the bullshit now. it was bad enough then
True. My old man served from about 1960 till 1985. All us kids heard was the amount of red tape he put up with.
I nearly joined the Navy but became a Teacher. Same is true, the bull shit in Teaching is out of control.
The cringe level is high in this video..
