- Able Seaman Kerrin Humphrey joined the navy after finishing high school. She served aboard HMAS Kanimbla on Operation Quickstep and HMAS Melbourne on Operation Slipper in the Persian Gulf in 2011.
I Cant believe the point she made about the medals.I would have thought by now that people would understand there are a lot of women in the 3 services. A realistic story told honestly. I actually think she should get a lot more recognition for her efforts. It’s must be hard moving around like she did. She is the type of unselfish non complaining person this country is supposed to be about.
I have great respect for those who serve. While you were in danger over there, there were many back here who appreciate the job you were doing there. Thank you.
Tell people who ask you if those medals are yours and you tell them how much of your life you gave to protect them the great country of Australia, Tell them you do not need to justify to anyone who did not serve in the military about how you earned your metals with pride and honor, I salute you for you service. I severed my country for 12 years in the US Navy, I gave m life make the world safe, my ship visited Perth and found that people in Australia a good folk. I am honored to here your story!
And if you ever feel useless. just remember the US took 4 presidents 20 years and trillions of dollars to replace the Taliban with Taliban. No wait this is brilliant. Americas enemies can laugh themselves to death.🤣😂😂🤣🤣🤣

Kerrin is just the kind of witness the Royal Commission into the difficulties and tragedies, that in many cases ultimately end up with suicides that has taken so many of our ADF members.
AND WE WILL GET THE ROYAL COMMISSION.
Her story of her experiences on returning from deployments and separating from the Navy is so important for our future ADF members.

What a great interview, especially your comments towards the end with regard to life and headspace on leaving the Services. I currently have two daughters serving - one in Navy and one in RAAF, with a third child heading to Navy. The diversity of their positions and opportunities available to them is great, but as any parent, am concerned about their headspace and I found this enlightening. BZ and thank you for your Service. You deserve to wear your medals proudly.

I served in the army as an Infantry solider from 88 to 95 and females weren't very well recognised within the defence force and im pleased that women of today have much better choice of jobs within our defence force and have know hesitation serving with women as i have done promotion courses with women and some of them were far better than some of the males that served in the infantry so to all thew women in our Defence force i salute you all to a job well done and in most cases better than the men and to all current and serving men and women i say thank you for your service

The thing I've struggled with the most is settling 100% on a role that I really want to do because there's about 4 that I'm extremely interested in that are right up my alley. That’s great. If you finished high school, why be a Bosuns mate? A commission would have been better. Although you can go in to higher things!
Technically they are all warships. Supply ships and multi role vessels , will be sent to war.
Fire support and escort roles, combat patrols are one thing, but a frigate or destroyer cannot do essential duties that a LHD, AOR , or that hydrographic, dive support and mine countermeasures those ships specialise in. They simply dont have the space to do so. Each type ship are just as important.
Can a frigate,destroyer that specializes in warfare delivery hundreds of combat troops to shore, several helicopters and hundreds of tons of supplies? No. Can it offload oversized cargo by heavy crane? No. Can it offload dozens of armoured vehicles? No.
What about refueling , rearming said warship at sea? Hell no. Or even operate in Antarctic waters? Nope.
Recovery of that blackhawk with a dive support vessel like HMNZS Manuwanui with a heavy crane , Multiple onboard sonar systems ,dive team and fully equipped decompression chamber and moonpool area for deep sea recovery with dedicated ROV bay would of recovered that Blackhawk and crew in days, not months they stated.
I wanted to be a Seaman Officer, but ended up a dibby, lol.

A vessel that will help people in crisis, like the bushfire evacuations here or delivering aid.

Why didn't her Husband pipe up . Those are HER MEDALS . Furthermore , even though she is now Discharged , she Earned the Uniform and MAY wear it at any appropriate time forever more . Have they changed the Rules about that ? I served 1982 -1988 , and the Uniform was MINE . Simply had NOT use a Tally Band .

My uncle did wear women's clothing and he was in the American Navy, but your a real woman I can understand why you wear women's sexy lingerie. My uncle didn't bother to shave his hairy legs when he was wearing lingerie do you have crossdresser in your Navy as well.

Ian Robinson Darryl is the sort who is the loud mouth in the bar who suddenly becomes silent, and lets others deal with any trouble. Anyone who disrespects anyone who serves is a lot worse than just a wally. My grandfather was wounded on the Somme in World War I and stayed at his machine gun despite his leg half blown off. Darryl is too stupid to know that real people sacrificed and faced real danger and pain with courage for his freedom to be an a** h*le.
