Erik Ohlsen, one of my favourite teachers you introduced me to through your courses. I'm currently on a 3 acre hobby farm / homestead. Although we are renting, I have been working towards a system like Erik's since I moved in two years ago. I know there is a high chance that I may not directly benefit fully from all the effort I have put into this place, but that doesn't matter to me . The skills I have learned and the changes I have put into the land here will be felt for generations both to whomever lives her and all who live in this community because there will be so much abundance produced on this property that whoever lives here will have no choice but to share it with their neighbours and their community. Part of my own learning process has been to immediately share my new skills with my community as I acquire them, so even before the season properly begun, I've already shared my prep work through the newsletters, community events and through the community garden at the local hall that I am in the process of setting up. From little seeds, beautiful gardens grow! Much Love, Chrystal

This has to become the normal what have we been doing? why have we been taught all this pick up bag up trash can after trash can, fighting weed after weed it’s insane and so difficult what was just explained is simple as it gets. My mind is blown I’m not new to these ways but I’m certainly still at the beginning of change for my land and unfortunately still having to fight others around me to put these steps into effect. It’s easy to say if you live in California. We live in west Texas. From spring to late fall is is hot and dry weather condition with the high wind and no rain for few years.
I have friends who've greened Saudi Arabian desert with just earthworks and trees - it can be done. It just takes greater effort and time if we are in those kind of circumstances.
Mosquito fish will help, aeration will help, and setting up a mosquito lamp that attracts bugs at night over the water will allow your fish to leap and catch them out of the air!

I have done several talks on this over the years - Erik Ohlsen has his solutions as well. It's completely doable. Already proven many times over on the small scale here in CA and on larger scales in harsher climates all over the world.

I'm curious how you keep the water and pipe system from freezing in winter? Say you wanted to do that off grid? How do you keep it from freezing

The real question is what ARE the coppice plants for hot/arid zones? Every fire ecology has them.
