I am not even sure there is a word to describe the gratitude I feel of the time and effort that took to create this video but most importantly the wisdom share by Lance. People take college courses and buy books just to get a snippet of the information share in this journey. Watch the entire thing and rewind to watch many parts and take notes. I am amazed by the vigor, life purpose and passionate love Lance has for Mother Earth and all it produces. And, I must say - we’ll trained dog 🐶 NOT once stepped on harvest 🐾 Thank you thank you thank you so much for this video! Love from Jersey- Mariana
39:56 Turn your wheelbarrow around to face the direction you have to go to BEFORE you load it up. So true, I've always done this even though others find it exasperating, it is MUCH EASIER to move a fully loaded wheelbarrow straight forwards rather than wrestle with it (usually in a tight or narrow spot) to immediately have to turn it around fully. Simple little thing, but it makes the job a bit easier and not struggle so much. I like this guy, he makes a lot of sense, my late mother taught me much of what he's saying, only applicable to the specific or local area. I'll be rewatching this again, soon. All the best from Australia 🇭🇲🦘🙏🦘🇭🇲
He's doing yard work and narrating at the same time, he's not out of breath at all. This guy is in great shape. Your average youtuber enjoyer would be puffing walking some steps and talking xd
I’m still watching the tool section, but I had to say I just love Lance. When you see someone as excited about shovels and forks, you know you’re in for a great video.
This is very similar to my Dutch grand papas garden except he had no grass paths, just a foot path about 2 ft wide. He sourced all kinds of stuff for his compost from forest floors, seaweed, leaves, whatever he could find. He had a very small city plot but the amount of veggies , berries, fruit and flowers from the 25 ft by 14 ft garden was crazy. Sadly he passed when I was a teen . I miss my papa
Wow! Priceless wealth of knowledge! I live on an almost zero lot line in a neighborhood and don’t have any space for composting so I compost everything in place in my perennial garden, including some grass clippings, leaves, prunings, and diy mulch w my electric chipper. I try to add a layer of store bought manure, compost, and wood chips annually. My soil is borderline too fertile for some of the things I’d like to grow.
It so lovely to see how fit and healthy he still is. I don’t know how old he is but he’s fitter than my poor Dad was at 60. Just shows what living like this does. Bless him for sharing the knowledge 🙏
I'm watching the second time I'm impressed with everything, I've done 5 method with tomatoes string, cattle panel and cages by themselves and Florida weave and only a stake in the cages and I'm proud to say his method I've taught myself a few years ago and me and his method is the best and cheaper than most anything. Again thanks he's a master
Thank you for making this video. I just moved to Colorado a few months ago and I'm also at 6000 ft. Elevation. So this was very educational. Thank you again from a Texas Master Gardener.
What a beautiful video! So well done, love the flyovers as well as the close up videography. I have been trying to visit a permaculture farm for a few years now, and it never seems to work for one reason or another. I think this has been the best overall video I’ve seen:). I think it’s the next best to attending a workshop on a perm farm.
Thank you both, I so appreciated all of this gardening wisdom.I love how so much is done by hand and hand tools, ones that have been around for all very long time, so generous that he grows more than he needs, that he ventures outside the rule books and experiments this different methods. He's right up there Paul Gautschi as my gardening heroes!

I've been reading "The Seed Farmer" recently and it's really cool to see his biannual seed strip that he's doing, hearing him talk about how it's taken him time to figure out and play with. Always learning and growing, that's the mindset to aim for. How cool. What a wonderful garden.

I was greatly inspired by the 1st video of Lance, this one is equally amazing. I live in central south africa, our climate is harsh, high temperature of 38 to 42'C is our summer temps, with minimal rain. This year is my 3rd year of vegetable gardening. I took out all my raised beds last season. I had high hopes for this season. Sadly, the grass have taken over almost all my new garden beds. The potatoe hoe or dunghoe ist my favourite tool to work in the garden. Here in Germany my granny used to call it a "Grubber". The word hoe originates in Germany, I think. Here we call a hoe "Haue" ( from the word slashing). The dung hoe is in fact the best tool to break down clumpy soil. But I guess it´s multi purpose: getting weeds out, that root a little deeper, where you don`t want to cut the roots in pieces and leave them behind. Potatoe hoe because it´s also great to harvest potatoes. Dung hoe I could guess to pull out dirty straw from underneath the cows in a stable. Edit: just looked it up. The dunghoe originates in Germany in the "Frankenwald", which is in the northern part of Thüringen. It is also called a "Krail" which is used to pull apart menure-piles.
😌. my parents were homesteaders in Oregon 40 years ago, then we moved to CO. if you're in one of the hail prone areas, you might get really good at green houses :)
What a wonderful video. Thank you for sharing this knowledge! And thank you for not rushing the video and letting Lance just talk to us. I really loved just listening to him. It would be so great to get a video specifically about his composting, how he shreds it and how he starts a pile (I groaned when he said he started a pile and we missed it in this video) and a video about his hedges around the edge of his garden/property! I need to start some hedges on my property to designate boundaries as well as to stop spray drift of nearby industrial farms and it's so hard to find information about growing a living boundary/hedges (not fast enough for most people, I assume). Thanks again for sharing all of this!
This is a dying breed. I’m a 36 year old version of him. I can only hope and pray I’m in good enough shape to do what he’s doing at his age. Absolutely incredible human he is.
Thanks, the point of me being there is to share the experience and for others to learn. I filmed his place when I got a break from my business and two kids under 3.
So unfair this old farmer is so clear minded I don't think I was ever so clear headed Love seeing anyone who loves their job and he seems 💯 developed with his farm and garden. I agree temperatures for each plant is why things are starting in spring. Correction you are saying corn must be planted in blocks, Untrue you can very easily self pollinate the corn and I plant rows because I don't have much space
Lance says it yields better, but it can be done in rows as well. Lance always recommend to experiment. Never go too dogmatic with gurus and develop your own style
I just spent three hours watching the best tutorial on gardening self reliance I have ever seen, and guiltily want more. That was fantastic, I can’t thank you and Lance enough. One question, how does he preserve the fruit? Thanks again, that was fantastic.
Thanks! Good question, I’ll ask Lance at our next Q and A . I post the live videos on my channel. He dries the grapes. Not sure on the pear and peaches.
@StefanoCreatini one other question if I may add. I noticed a pvc built device in the background but couldn't figure out what it was. Is it some sort of watering/sprinkling device?
This brought me such joy to watch. I can’t in-ground garden amat this time, but still ladd of good tips, applicable even for container gardeners. Such rich lived experience. Blessings!
This video is amazing. I have been learning and trying to find solid info on farming/gardening. I am preparing to start a homestead. Thank you sooo much for sharing this info and taking the time to come back for more so we too can gain some insight and knowledge. ❤ New to your channel…new sub here.
Great video! When he mentioned bailing twine, it reminded me of when I worked at a cattle slaughterhouse for a year. The amount of ingested twine was insane. I sure hope most farmers remove theirs from the bails prior to feeding. I know I do when setting out to feed
Great setup and this guy is really dialed into his garden. I will add I have one of those potato bent forks and you stab the fork in beside the plants and bring the potatoes to the surface without having to dig them up although mine seems to have forks a bit closer together. I'm getting too old to be digging anymore so this year I'm switching to potatoes in big grow bags so I can just dump them in the wheelbarrow. Happy 2025 gardening everyone.
The only way I’ve mastered my quack grass invasions is by installing physical barriers. Of course, my garden is much smaller so I’m able to find sufficient materials to do this. I cut metal roofing into 18” wide strips and bury them vertically, overlapping each end by about 6”. The grass cannot pass that barrier because the roots don’t grow deeper than 18”. It’s a big job to do this but sure beats the 40 years I’ve spent digging grass.
@@StefanoCreatini I did not see any mice proof containers. Cardboard boxes and burrying under straw is not mouse proof. Did not see a cat on the property.
"Everything I did here, I did with a shovel." RESPECT!
Please continue to film Lance the world needs this documented.
Will do! Lance does a Q and A every month in our Skool community

The fact that he knows every place and company that he got his tools, plus has a story, or a lesson on how to use it, this guy is sharp!

Love seeing anyone who loves their job and he seems 💯 developed with his farm and garden.
@@StefanoCreatini you mean he makes raisins?
@StefanoCreatini one other question if I may add. I noticed a pvc built device in the background but couldn't figure out what it was. Is it some sort of watering/sprinkling device?
@@David-fv7zg yeah, it’s a homemade watering device. It’s a pvc stand that a regular garden sprinkler attaches to keep it off the ground,
@@StefanoCreatini what is the advantage of this? More even coverage?
The of most informative garden videos I ever seen! ❤Thank you!
We put a lot of work into that, hope you enjoyed it!
How does one “ shred” a compost pile? What does he use to do this? Most shredders I see would take forever.
This was what I was waiting to see too. That’s his crucial tool.
I subscribed because don’t want to miss this precious content
Thank you!
A choice I support !
This brought me such joy to watch. I can’t in-ground garden amat this time, but still ladd of good tips, applicable even for container gardeners. Such rich lived experience. Blessings!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thanks for sharing a good video..
This video is amazing. I have been learning and trying to find solid info on farming/gardening. I am preparing to start a homestead. Thank you sooo much for sharing this info and taking the time to come back for more so we too can gain some insight and knowledge. ❤

Lance does a monthly Q and A on our permaculture homestead skool community. Leave some comments below and he can answer.
Question: for another guy in Colorado, where n I buy seeds for my garden?
He mentioned voles got into one of the beds. How did he get rid of them
Lance, if it is better to run the rows north - south. QQQ. Why are the majority of your rows running east- west?
Thank you Sir,
From Montana
What do you use to shred your compost? My wood chipper doesn't do smaller or softer stuff (spits it back out whole in the case of leaves and straw).
@ yard mulcher, something that can do leaves
Great video! When he mentioned bailing twine, it reminded me of when I worked at a cattle slaughterhouse for a year. The amount of ingested twine was insane. I sure hope most farmers remove theirs from the bails prior to feeding. I know I do when setting out to feed
That is a great point about the twine. Safety first always
Happy gardening to you as well!
Thanks for your all effort i mean it
Thanks
this man is a gem!
Thank you so much for sharing this!
Any time!
This was awesome! Love it all
Thanks!
Very cool, great video, thank you 😊
Glad you liked it!
That’s a really interesting solution, definitely going to look into that.
What does Lance's compost shredder look like?
AWESOME interview / class, Thank you!
Anytime! A regular yard mulcher
This is fantastic.
Thanks!
I really enjoyed this and learned a few things. Thank you for sharing.
You are most welcome!
Those are huge piles. How much land are you gathering from?
Love the video. How do you keep the mice and deer from eating he harvest.
There is deer fencing around the garden. He puts his harvest in mice proof containers
@@StefanoCreatini I did not see any mice proof containers. Cardboard boxes and burrying under straw is not mouse proof. Did not see a cat on the property.
Im in olathe! high five colorado! Hugs love!❤😊❤
Howdy Neighbor!
Anybody notice that the dog won't walk on the garden he just lays on the edges❤❤❤❤
Tank is a garden dog
I ❤ that dog!
