Sorry we didn't include that one. Again, we went to the store without knowing which ones to pick (there are something close to a million kinds of Ramen to choose from). We just picked eight kinds that looked interesting. Sorry!
The cheese ramen is seriously awesome, and for the record, we're not American just because we speak English. Also, it's not our accents because in English we say "rah-men" but in Korean you say "rah-myeon".
Simon, your videos are getting so professional, that's a great camera you got there! I'm glad I saw this, because I wanted to try the jajang and never would've thought about the cheese. Looking forward to your next test!
You're right! In 1958, instant noodles were invented by Momofuku Ando, the Taiwanese-Japanese founder and chairman of Nissin Foods, now run by his son Koki Ando. Named the greatest Japanese invention of the 20th century in a Japanese poll,[5] instant ramen allowed anyone to make this dish simply by adding boiling water. I got this from wikipedia =D
hmm i wonder if you all tried the nongshim Kimchi cheese Ramen.. the smell of cheese was a little too strong, but they tasted quite well together.. you should take a look at that
Urban legend--about ten years or so--has it that the idea for Cheese Ramen started with American GIs swapping their MREs (meals ready to eat) for bowl of Ramen topped with Kraft's singles when they were out in the field on military exercises up near the DMZ during cold Korean winters.
Ohhh... I get it.. The 짜장볶이 and the 라면볶이 are from the 콕!콕!콕! So u put the soup in and veggies or whatever in the bowl, but make sure that you didn't open the lid all the way. Next, you put in the hot water until it reaches the line. then close the tabs and wait 2~3 minutes. push in the 4 holes on the paper with your chopstick and pour out the water until it's not watery anymore. It turned out very watery when i 1st tried it, and then I got it the 2nd time. thx for uploading this.
my personal preference is shin ramyun. both the ones that come in cups and the ones you make in a pot of boiling water. really nice on a really coooold day. spaghetti tends to taste really sweet in korea, i realized. jajangmyun is good if you order from the right place!
where do you shop at? I can't believe they were selling the cup ramens at only W800! When I was in Korea last summer, I coudn't find any cup ramen under W1000... Isn't the retail price to be W1,000 minimum?? - Gotta agree that the spaghetti was the worst one I tasted, but I actually liked the jajang & rabbokki ones. my favorite is the 새우탕.
i absolutely believe that you guys didn't cook the jajang thingy. after cooking the noodle with hellish-boiling water, you're actually supposed to let the water go and with tiny little amount of water and cooked noodle, you mix the sauce. i personally believe the jajang noodle is one of the best ramyun among there!
It's funny because here in Michigan, the ramen I can find with English instructions is the kind with MSG and I love it but my mom keeps telling me it's terrible for my system. I wish I lived in Korea
What you said was all correct and everything, except for one thing. I'm sorry if someone else has already pointed out, but, 'ramen' does not mean fried noodles, it means, most of the time, noodle soup.
I realized near the end that those were couple shirts and did a little *EEE* of glee. But anyway, I've tried the udon kind and the jajjang kind and then I've had various others. Something about the cheese ramen makes me think it'd be gross but then, I don't much like cheese. Have y'all tried the nong shim Shin ramyun? That's the best ramen I've ever had in my life
Hey Simon and Martina! Incase you ever look at this and haven't discovered it since Feb 2009 (lol), 짜장면 is NOT supposed to be a soup and instead... you drain almost all of the water out (leave a tiny bit to help liquify the sauce), and then eat it. I've never had an American friend dislike it when I've made it, so I was very surprised that you guys disliked it. According to that one guy, he said it was some kind of "soup", so I assume you guys didn't drain the water.
WHY?? jajangboggi(짜장볶이) and spagetti ramen is really fit to my mouth. they must be dont see the sign, "throw away all of water before you pour the sauce".
i think it really depends...... like where they r from, their experiences and stuff like most koreans around me werent like that but one person i met in a train was shocked... tho i think he've never seen a foreigner before n again the spicyness thing depends,2
OMG I just saw 90 cal ramen, sitting next to 95 one on the shelf. I used to eat that one in Korea basically everyday. I was so upset when I couldn't find it in UK or now in Australia :/
wooooahhh where is that shop with all the ramen im stuck with cup and bowl noodles thats it cant find anything else unless i visit an asian market which is a 30 min drive from my house
noooooooo 짜장볶이 is my favorite! did you drain almost all the water before adding the sauce packet first? ahhh haha I'm in shock. I would have never wanted to try the cheese ramen but if I ever see it, I'll totally buy it :D
Have you tried Mae Ploy Sweet Thai Chili Sauce? I Love that stufff.. It's like my second ketchup...I like to dip shrimp poppers in it,chicken nuggets, I add It to my Shin-Rymun Spicy Noodle(the ones with the dehydrated veggies)...I also add it to my Red Spanish Rice, and I Love to put it on cheesburgers sometimes...whether it's a burger from McDonalds or at home I through it on there just for an added kick...It's more sweet than spicy...I heard Siracha hot sauce Is way hotter than this stuff..
(continued) and I believe it...but I'm still curious to try it...and I might also pick up some cumin or curry powder sometime...and make some curry rice or If I get cumin I will add the stuff to chili or spanish rice....
... I can't really choose... We get American made Japanese brands. xD But recently, we (my sister and I) did discover Korean brand, Nong Shim. ^_^ However, so far we've only found the Nong Shim Bowl Noodles. The instant stuff. There are several varieties of it, but, I wish there was a local Korean shop where I live until I can (hopefully) get out of here. haha
lol 자장 ramen has to be cooked differently... You have to pour hot water, then when the noodles becomes soft, remove almost all of the water. Then, add the sauce packages. Hey guys, if you guys get the chance to read the comment please try and eat again lol. It tastes really good haha
well it all depends on taste and what ur accustomed to. foreigners from north america (i live in canada myself, but am korean so i eat lik a korean xD) hav very diff tastes, but u hav 2 make sure u cook everything correctly, personally i lik spicy things, as many koreans do, so i'd suggest shin ramyun and i just looove duk boekki and jjajjangmyun, ive never rly been a fan of udon tho, btw, these r dif korean noodles, myun being noodles, ramen is a seperate kind, also try bi bim myun!
i love spagette ramen, reminds me of sweet and sour pork sauce xD and 맛있는 라면 but i never usuall buy them in the cups or bowls and they usually tastelike stirafoam.
omg instant jjajangmeun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm dying to try it. @0:48 omg and there's instant spaghetti?! @0:49 omg 곰탕 라면 too~~ I can't believe everyone thought the 우동 was the best and 짜장 was the worst. ㅠㅠ
INSULTING INFIDELS! lol jus kidding. yall are awesome. man i really love how theres so much variety of ramen and other snacks in korea. i always pig out on ice cream and random chips. OOH you should do one on ice cream! im really curious as to which ice cream you guys like! love you guys!
E-mart made the best ramen? That's a surprise. LOL! The jajjang ramen just looks scary on the package. Ugh! You can't get most of these in the states. In the states, Shin makes pretty good ramen!!!
Just to clear it up, of course noodles can be seen in all parts of Asia! Don't go around saying whatever about chinese or japanese coming up with noodles first. Koreans have their own distict noodle culture, and "ramen" just means fried noodles. Instant noodles were made in Japan first, but Japanese never make their ramen spicy or tingling like koreans. They just taste like Udon. Bread first came from Egypt. Doesnt mean entire Europe is copying by making their versions of french or italian ones
Sorry we didn't include that one. Again, we went to the store without knowing which ones to pick (there are something close to a million kinds of Ramen to choose from). We just picked eight kinds that looked interesting. Sorry!
Can you both make an updated video on this topic !?
We went to Home Plus and E-Mart, just the normal stores!
The cheese ramen is seriously awesome, and for the record, we're not American just because we speak English. Also, it's not our accents because in English we say "rah-men" but in Korean you say "rah-myeon".
Cheese ramen is so so so good. The next time you make it, add an egg (swirl to cook) and a slice of processed cheese. OMG! So good!!!!
Watching in 2016! : D Thank you Simon and Martina for continuing to teach foreigners about living in Asia!!
Surprised someone knows who this was! The whole album is dope...
Jajangmyun is sooo good if you actually order it from a restaurant. We found the instant ones to be awful!
Simon, your videos are getting so professional, that's a great camera you got there! I'm glad I saw this, because I wanted to try the jajang and never would've thought about the cheese. Looking forward to your next test!
You guys really need to do an update to this video now to see how much your tastes have changed after living in Korea for over 6 years!
You're right, and it's technically Japanese, but we needed one more noodle to taste that would be different from the rest. :P
I love how you guys have been literally filiming yourselves eating things for years and years!
It will never end!
It's like.... something from the 90's lol XD The end music made me lol
Love it! cant wait to go to Korea and actually put your videos to the test! they will help a lot! thanks!
Ohh really? Maybe Dear John copied us.....lol! I actually haven't seen the trailer. :P
awwwww.... it was almost one of your starting Videos
^^* Thanks!
I found they have kimchi flavored ramen at one of my grocery stores in Wisconsin. Have yet to try it, but I'm very hopeful.
You're right!

I got this from wikipedia =D
Legit didn't even recognize Simon for a second when he was talking at the end...holy cow.
hmm i wonder if you all tried the nongshim Kimchi cheese Ramen.. the smell of cheese was a little too strong, but they tasted quite well together.. you should take a look at that
I like the sesame oil one. It's simple which I like and it has a strong peanutty sorta taste. And I usually eat it with side dishes.
Urban legend--about ten years or so--has it that the idea for Cheese Ramen started with American GIs swapping their MREs (meals ready to eat) for bowl of Ramen topped with Kraft's singles when they were out in the field on military exercises up near the DMZ during cold Korean winters.
They sell kimchi flavored ramen at my local asain market, its so good and really spicy! ^^

everyone's face looked puffy afterwards haha

OMG I love your shirts! The ones with the cup phone thing (yeah, i don't know what they're called)
I love Martina's hair! She looks amazing in this video, you are sooo cute Martina!
Personally I like Nongshim ramen (kimchi flavor is my favorite
you can copy the text and take it to a language translation website that translates Korean and get a rough idea of what they said
where do you shop at? I can't believe they were selling the cup ramens at only W800! When I was in Korea last summer, I coudn't find any cup ramen under W1000... Isn't the retail price to be W1,000 minimum??

Oooh yes! You should do an updated one of these for Japan please. ... if you haven't already.. have I already watched that? 🤔
laimein means pulled noodles and lomein means mixed or stir-fried noodles.
@Kwaniichan ramyun is just a style of noddle like spaghetti. and also ramen is the japanese style of this type of noddle food ^^
i absolutely believe that you guys didn't cook the jajang thingy. after cooking the noodle with hellish-boiling water, you're actually supposed to let the water go and with tiny little amount of water and cooked noodle, you mix the sauce.

i love neoguri!
i haven't tried many ramen but the worst one i've had so far is probably jappagetti (? or was it jajanggetti?
I realized near the end that those were couple shirts and did a little *EEE* of glee. But anyway, I've tried the udon kind and the jajjang kind and then I've had various others. Martina's Canadian accent is much stronger here - I love it!
shin ramen is awesome. I use only half a pack of spices and add a good amount of bulgogi sauce. It couldn't taste better!
heya, I enjoyed the video, did you guys have to pay all the ramens for your friends? just wondering
shin ramen for life.
i remember i finished a box of shin ramen in 2 days when i was in boarding school in seoul.
and still hungry after.
noooooooo 짜장볶이 is my favorite! did you drain almost all the water before adding the sauce packet first? ahhh haha I'm in shock. I would have never wanted to try the cheese ramen but if I ever see it, I'll totally buy it :D
jiajang is really good though... you guys don't like jiajang, or just that brand of jiajang?

This reminds me of when I went to the local Korean grocery store and stared in confusion at the wall of ramen.
... I can't really choose...
We get American made Japanese brands. xD
But recently, we (my sister and I) did discover Korean brand, Nong Shim. ^_^
However, so far we've only found the Nong Shim Bowl Noodles. The instant stuff.
There are several varieties of it, but, I wish there was a local Korean shop where I live until I can (hopefully) get out of here. haha
you made this on my birthday!!!! YAYYY!!!! FEBRUARY 6!!!
omg! you guys are looking sooooo so so different then now xD I was laughing so hard, im sorry xD
lol 자장 ramen has to be cooked differently... You have to pour hot water, then when the noodles becomes soft, remove almost all of the water. Then, add the sauce packages. Hey guys, if you guys get the chance to read the comment please try and eat again lol. It tastes really good haha

@filipinoflicks baby darling :) that nigahiga sound is a default sound in imovie
Do those really cost only 800 wons(=0,54€) a cup?
Naw, we love spicy food. We just grabbed 8 random ones.
Are you guys sure that u make those correct way like Korean did. cause the way of cooking ramen is very important. it affect a lot of its taste.
I would love to recommend Shin Ramyun - it's the best~
ahhah nice u should try the BLACK shin ramen its really good

INSULTING INFIDELS! lol jus kidding. yall are awesome. man i really love how theres so much variety of ramen and other snacks in korea. i always pig out on ice cream and random chips. OOH you should do one on ice cream! im really curious as to which ice cream you guys like! love you guys!
Doesn't both ramyeon and ramen come from either the Chinese lamian or lomein.
you should have tried 신라면 wow~! as korean i am recommending u
Time for a reboot of this one, being in Japan and all
+Marldain wow this is so old! How did you even find it?!
Simon and Martina I have been watching a long time. Got nostalgic of the kimchi days.
Can't believe it's been 9 years already.
Martina, you acting has gotten much better. Btw, it is 2011 now. :)
I don't understand these characters...Is it Chinese? If so I'm not exactly fluent =D what did you say?
Is it the truth to which instant ramen are served at ramen restaurant in Korea?
you should try 신라면..lol its my favorite one..but thats prob because its the most spiciest...
for a moment i thought it was Crayon playing in the background as music...
E-mart made the best ramen? That's a surprise. LOL! The jajjang ramen just looks scary on the package. Ugh! You can't get most of these in the states.

I know that I always called it Lamian and I only bought Korean brands and am infact Korean myself.
"hmm ... Bum Slaps of Ramen, hm Ramen"!!! I think of that blooper Video when i see this lol
