Wii, unlike other more insular video games, invited the whole family to participate in a shared “activity” like bowling, or tennis, or golf, 4 at a time. And the non-participants could be spectators, watching something they understood. And then it was their turn to play, and the others became spectators. That’s what family game time is all about!

I'm so glad I never got rid of my Wii!
I got it in like 10th grade, a year or so after release. It's technically my second, though, since my first randomly died like a month in, so my mom took it back to Gamestop and made them exchange it, LOL! My Wii still works flawlessly, for both Wii and GameCube games. The only thing that shows its age is the rubber feet, which have all melted into goo which I've worked hard to scrape out with plenty of alcohol pads.

@@LowestLogan They definitely can be. I used my Wii regularly through 2015 when I got a PS4, and still somewhat often until I got a Switch in 2017. However, I pulled it out from the lower cabinet of my old entertainment center to plug into my current setup, and was pretty dismayed by those gooey, sticky feet. Ah, well ... I consider myself lucky that's all that went bad that I'm aware of. Both my original WIImotes still work, and only one of the nunchucks has broken, wearing through the cord. I have a niece, who's now 9, and it's been nice to let her play my old Wii and PS2 stuff as she's grown up, along with more modern things.

I liked this video. It has a good presentation and full of arguments, but only one feedback from a viewer point of view: you barely answered more concrete about WHY you need a Wii in 2022. The console is nowadays very cheap to get on second hand, and the games as well. This beside the Homebrew Channel, and native playback of GC games makes this console a real deal! In the end I got the feeling that Dolphin is better than original hardware, so why bother. Just an opinion as yours in this video. Cheers!

Hey thank you very much for watching & for the constructive comment! I really appreciate getting some good feedback like this haha. Coming back to watch this video again I can see your point. I should have made it clear that everything that I love about the Wii might be some reasons that the viewer would want to grab one - I guess the Dolphin thing did kinda dilute the point but hopefully that doesn't detract from most of the content :)

As a gamer who grew up with the Atari 2600... the Wii is my go to retro gaming beast. Wii, Gamecube, PS1, Sega CD, SNES, NES, GB, TG16, Neo-Geo... it's just a badass if you add a simple 32GB card and a 1TB wallet HDD.

I'll give you a few reasons not to get a Wii.
To play on a modern TV without any issues of input delay, scaling, video quality and so on, you will need a scaler like the Retrotink 5x or the GBS-C.
Furthermore, you will need to modify the software to let you boot either discs or backups without the deflicker filter.
The deflicker filter is always on by default. Most games don't give you the option to turn it off, which is something you will have to do if you want nice quality.
However, by turning the deflicker filter off, edges and lines will now get jagged, so you will need something to perform anti-aliasing.
The only product I know of that can do this is the mClassic, but I havn't tried it myself yet, so I am not sure if it will be good enough.
Not only do people need to keep this in mind, but it is also not easy to find original peripherals for the Nintendo Wii at an affordable price. If you like classic controllers instead of the Wii motes + nunchuck, then you might have to settle for 3rd party controllers rather than overpriced originals.

Fun fact if ya really wanted you could turn the Xbox Kinect into a webcam but the PS3 eye camera is a better option, yes i am speaking from experience. Though Nintendo should have gotten into more shooters as the Wii motion control were really great on it, almost as good as mouse and keyboard actually the movement part was better as i hate WASD movement

    • @LowestLogan

@@LowestLogan If you had the money to burn you could get a Super Gameboy and a Gameboy Camera hooked to a capture device that captures RCA/Component (They sell converters for component to HDMI if you don't know where to get a capture card that supports it RCA capture) to show in OBS and there you go a expensive Webcam but more so if you are using the Gameboy Player at a weird suspended angle with the capture cards et up as the webcam.
You could even use the DSi streaming directly to your computer through hacking it if you don't have a capture card, or any DS in the Ds family for that matter. The Wii U gamepad is a more interesting one as i don't remember if you can use the camera part on a TV screen if so then you can use a capture card otherwise you are going to have to hack it or buy a modded one that streams the screen to your computer. You could even stream your Phone to your computer to use the camera as a webcam.
Don't ask me why i know all sorts of shit about how to use random ass non webcams as webcams and not using a actual webcam as that comes down to money and when you had gaming consoles with accessories in the past you might as well see if there are drivers to convert them into webcams. And yes if you turn on OBS virtual camera you can actually use all the methods above for face tracking if you are using a VTuber model but that is varying success as the better the webcam the better the tracking is thus the better the model movement is.
Before you ask i have not yet found a way to turn infrared such as the Wii or even Wii U sensor bar into a webcam, inb4 it is using the Wii Mote as a webcam instead as you can just light two candles and not actually need a sensor bar for it to work as the motion controls is working on infrared light that the sensor bar lets off when plugged into the Wii/Wii U. Really the sensor bar just releases infrared light no actual need for it WAIT OH MY GOD INFRARED WII MOTE WEBCAM EXISTS ruclips.net/video/Jd3-eiid-Uw/видео.html
Well something similar at least. As that guy pretty much invented the 3D effect of a 3DS 15 years ago. The Camera in the Wii Mote actually tracks X and Y positions and sizes of the 4 brightest IR points it sees. Welp my nerdiness is acting up
