It would! I think the Joy-cons do a decent job at being a Wiimote replacement, but seeing what VR controllers are able to do nowadays I think we're well overdue for a true successor to the Wii. Thanks for watching :)
I bought my 1st wii 9 months ago. Homebrewed it on the first day. The things you can do on it are ABSOLUTELY AWESOME. I don't have a way to check it but in just 9 months I may have played its games for more than 100 hours. It's my favorite console of all time.
I bought 2 Wii's couple of months ago for under $50 each with all cords and games. Turned them into House Of The Dead Arcade Rail shooter cabinets. Turned out nice.
Grew up with the wii as a kid since early 2010's. Still have it to thus day and still play games like wii sport resort, mario and sonic at the olympic games 2008, super mario galaxy and many more. I also noticed the wii looks better on a crt than on a flatscreen tv since it uses component.
As a Wii veteran, I love this still today. I used to play Mario kart Wii on the Wii, and used to have it a few years after I was born which was 2009. One of my favorite things about it is the music on the menu. I no longer have any of the parts but my cousin's own some Wii parts. I wish I still had it.
Mod it using the letterbomb exploit. These are great, I own 8 Wii's and they are all soft modded via the SD card which installs the Homebrew Channel and lots of emulators.
similar, someone gave me one as a gift, always been curious. this thing is an absolute infinite source of joy... gonna have to look into mod/customisation scene. long live Wii!
I used to have a Wii whilst growing up and it was given away to a friend about 7 years ago. But you have just sparked the inner 9 year old in me and im going to buy one tomorrow! Thank you my friend :)
I'm so glad I never got rid of my Wii! I got it in like 10th grade, a year or so after release. It's technically my second, though, since my first randomly died like a month in, so my mom took it back to Gamestop and made them exchange it, LOL! My Wii still works flawlessly, for both Wii and GameCube games. The only thing that shows its age is the rubber feet, which have all melted into goo which I've worked hard to scrape out with plenty of alcohol pads.
@@LowestLogan They definitely can be. I used my Wii regularly through 2015 when I got a PS4, and still somewhat often until I got a Switch in 2017. However, I pulled it out from the lower cabinet of my old entertainment center to plug into my current setup, and was pretty dismayed by those gooey, sticky feet. Ah, well ... I consider myself lucky that's all that went bad that I'm aware of. Both my original WIImotes still work, and only one of the nunchucks has broken, wearing through the cord. I have a niece, who's now 9, and it's been nice to let her play my old Wii and PS2 stuff as she's grown up, along with more modern things.
Wii, unlike other more insular video games, invited the whole family to participate in a shared “activity” like bowling, or tennis, or golf, 4 at a time. And the non-participants could be spectators, watching something they understood. And then it was their turn to play, and the others became spectators. That’s what family game time is all about!
There are some cool things that hardly get mentioned about the Wii - You can use NES and SNES mini console joypads on the wii. From my own experience it pays to buy some USB to Wiimote battery charges... you don't need to worry about batteries going flat ever again.
Terrific review. I love your style and sense of humor. Also I have to say you know your tech because a lot of those details on the circuitry and gear were very thorough. I still play my Wii and the OG Smash and my Kindergartener loves Wii Sports. We just got the new Switch Sports so I want to see if it is as good as Wii sports. Thanks for a very delightful video. Awesome video. I am most interested in playing sports games using the controllers for exercise and multiplayer games like bowling, boxing and tennis. It's a shame that other brands couldn't continue producing motion type consoles/games.
And it really does it so well! I'm hoping motion controls come back with things like the PSVR 2. But people don't always have the ability to use VR whether it's a matter of space, comfort, etc. The Wii just did the right thing at the right time. Thanks for watching :)
Cables cost me more than the console I found at a garage sale. Got a component cable and a component to HDMI adapter. The Last Story is super fun. My all time fave game is Xenoblade
Great console that you can get for a very reasonable price!! Component cables are a must though. It's worth paying more for them. Thanks for watching :)
I played the first Xenoblade Chronicles on 3DS. It's large like any JRPG and the story is very good. I don't play the Wii version but if i buying a Nintendo Wii this is the first Game that i played. Xenoblade Chronicles Wii version.
Atari 2600, Nintendo Gameboy, Wii and 3ds....my favorites that I still play regularly. I have 2 Wiis one that's hacked and can't play GameCube discs and my original one that can. I play my Wii quite a bit even if I might go a few months here and there without it stays hooked up and ready. The Wii is just FUN and is what I loved about Atari as a kid...fun, challenging, dependable... Great system and STILL one anyone can play.

I got my wii still and im not getting rid of it even though I have a switch, $7 for a hdmi adapter on ebay, Most cities have every game cheap second hand. Plus its always nostalgic owning physical nintendo game copies. There is a fair few hidden gems on Wii for sure they are available on the newer consoles but they ran perfectly on the wii. The experience with the remote in 2022 is still great.
It's really aged incredibly well considering the circumstances it was released under - flat-screen TVs were just starting to become mainstream, online console gaming had really only kicked off the year earlier, and it used brand-new technology that no one had ever tried using in a game system before... despite that, like you mentioned, the Wii is still an awesome system! Thanks for watching :)
My own Wii is still hooked up and will be until it dies off completely. I did find your conclusion at the end a bit at odds with the title though. "Why you need a Wii in 2022" - with the end conclusion being "Your PC is probably a better Wii than the Wii itself"...
As it should be! The Wii deserves a spot in everyone's setup IMO. But at the end of the video... yep I wanted to throw in a little bit of a twist haha. I love the actual Wii console but I think emulation is also a pretty good option. All still applies :) Thanks for watching!
I've been recently playing the wii a lot, i particulary like the "Just Dance" dance games, i have the full collection and the oldest ones i have them for the wii!
Personally, I recommend downloading Dolphin Emulator. Its a Wii emulator, for pc. Combining that with an usb-sensorbar and 1-4 Wii remote(s) you have a fully functioning Wii setup.
Wii is brilliant especially when homebrewed, I still play it too this day intact having a comeback for me since I took a neat decade long hiatus from gaming!
I'm old, just bought one of these for my Grandkids to enjoy. All of the hype passed me by. The one I bought has Homebrew and it came with 15 physical games. Looking forward to us all enjoying a great system!
honestly heartwarming comments like these are by far my favorite lol. I really hope they enjoy the system!! awesome grandparent, thanks for watching :)
Great video. I still love the Wii. My favorite game is probably Mario Kart Wii. The Wii still has so much value since it can be modded. Personally, I like the custom tracks for MKWii.
LOL me too!! That would have been so interesting. Nintendo might have clocked Microsoft out of the ring honestly, it just wasn't as easy to get an Xbox into a household as it was to get a Nintendo system in. Thanks for watching :)
I really liked the wii and I really enjoyed it's virtual console selection. I feel like the gamecube was underrated and I feel that it was a good console with alot of great game's. I also loved the gamecube controller.
Yeah the wii definitely had a great selection of virtual console game's. There were also alot of great exclusive's for the wii that I really enjoyed. Yeah it really does suck that you can't get anything anymore on wii shop channel.
Cursed Mountain on the Wii is fantastic. Anyone who likes atmospheric games like Eternal Darkness should give Cursed Mountain a go. The game is set in Tibet and has a fantastic soundtrack featuring Tibetan chanting and traditional instruments like gongs and singing bowls etc
Thanks for watching & for the suggestion! I'll have to check this out. It's amazing what kind of enveloping experiences you can make with 88 megabytes of RAM on a console from 2006 haha. :)

As a gamer who grew up with the Atari 2600... the Wii is my go to retro gaming beast. Wii, Gamecube, PS1, Sega CD, SNES, NES, GB, TG16, Neo-Geo... it's just a badass if you add a simple 32GB card and a 1TB wallet HDD.
What makes a Wii so great in 2022 is that there are THOUSANDS of these selling for cheap. If you're a retro gamer on a budget, then homebrewing a wii is the best way to go. It's incredibly accessible and the homebrewing community is constantly churning stuff out and are more than willing to help you. Can't recommend it enough!
I bought one last year for $100 really great condition having lot of fun i used to have one when i was younger but my mom sold it just happy i finally have one
I liked this video. It has a good presentation and full of arguments, but only one feedback from a viewer point of view: you barely answered more concrete about WHY you need a Wii in 2022. The console is nowadays very cheap to get on second hand, and the games as well. This beside the Homebrew Channel, and native playback of GC games makes this console a real deal! In the end I got the feeling that Dolphin is better than original hardware, so why bother. Just an opinion as yours in this video. Cheers!
Hey thank you very much for watching & for the constructive comment! I really appreciate getting some good feedback like this haha. Coming back to watch this video again I can see your point. I should have made it clear that everything that I love about the Wii might be some reasons that the viewer would want to grab one - I guess the Dolphin thing did kinda dilute the point but hopefully that doesn't detract from most of the content :) Thanks again!
Right before the school year ended I brought my Wii U and almost all my teachers let me hook it up to the projectors. We mostly played Wii Sports with a bit of Mario Kart but it's probably the most fun I've had at school. Edit: Just thought of this now but a projector is probably the best way to play as there is no TV to smash. A Wiimote jacket can't break a wall.
The big question that i couldnt answer is… Is it better to mod a Wii U using HDMi to play your wii, wii U, gamecube games ? Or mod a classic Wii and just play wii + gamecube games and yea its not using HDMi. ? By the way i have both the wii and wii u modded.
This is a great question and I'm going to be diving into this in another video pretty soon. Hopefully I can demystify some of this because it can be hard to figure everything out! Thanks for watching :)
I would say wii u. Not only do you get wii u as well as wii and gc but because wii u uses hdmi you'll never need to worry about not being able to plug into a new tv
Yep, I had a day 1 wii. Me and my friends were playing dragonball z, one of the remote straps broke went into my window. Luckily I had my shades down so no broken window. They actually gave new straps for free if you contacted them. They where 2x thicker strap.
Still love my wii. I've a 1tb ssd hooked up with a wii2hdmi adapter at the back with a caddy adapter. Got it 3 years ago in a charity shop for 20 euro with wii fit+ board. Wii sports. And 4 wii motes. 2 out of the for had battery acid so they where not functional.
@@LowestLogan yeah though with selling wii sports I made my money back so basically it was a free wii so can't really complain if 2 controllers don't work. No problem at all great vid
In this year i think to buy a Nintendo Wii or a PlayStation 3. I thinking and i decide to buy a Nintendo Wii because i want to have one and play GameCube games. Maybe i decide to buy a Wii U but not. With this video i reaffirmate to buy a Wii and play some games. It's gonna be fun to play No More Heroes 01 & 02 and Maybe Madworld because why not.
Great video. But you repeated the same section where you said you can turn the Wii into an emulation box from 10:40 to 11:01. No biggee. Just letting you know.
This kid is funny! I just hooked my wii up after about ten years or so sitting in the box, found a new/old call of duty modern warfare & wanted to see what it was like on the wii? Not bad need to get the zap gun or probably the wii classic controller pro would be a huge upgrade. Forgot how fun the wii actually is!! Great vid, very educational!👍🏼
No one ever plays anything but Mario Kart Wii with the new Wiimmfi revival, I miss watching Brawl tournaments online but I never was good as a kid to compete with
I wish they still remade the old consoles. The mini idea was great but they ditched it for subscription services instead. I really wanted a gamecube mini but that will never happen now that companies are all about subscription services.
Thanks for watching and for your kind words :) It looks like an emulator does exist wiibrew.org/wiki/FBZX_Wii so you should be able to play ZX Spectrum games on a homebrewed Wii!
I had one of those huge 400 pound thick box tvs and when the controller would fly out of my hand, it would just smash into pieces because of how thick that tv was.
Nice video. I still fire up the Wii quite often. Mostly to play Wii Party with friends and some old tg16 Bomberman 94. Still like it better than my Switch. Don't use Dolphin as I pretty much rarely use pc. I think the Wii is a great system to still play in 2022 especially with friends. I do wish Dragon Quest X had made it to north america. Sad the Switch version were getting is offline.

Couldn't agree more! Seriously a great little system these days. Thanks for watching :)
Mod your Wii to play games of a usb drive
@@jackjurgens3842 I've done that too :)
High quality vid, keep up the good work!
Great video, great quality, and great jokes every now and then. Easiest sub of my life.
Wow, thank you so much haha!! It really means a lot, I appreciate it :)
Thanks for watching!
8:31 I love how the hand just shakes as in saying "get me out of here!"
Man, if only they had just gone with the DVD with the gamecube, I want to be on that timeline
LOL me too!! That would have been so interesting. Nintendo might have clocked Microsoft out of the ring honestly, it just wasn't as easy to get an Xbox into a household as it was to get a Nintendo system in. Thanks for watching :)
@@LowestLogan I think it more keeps Playstation 2 in check instead of having almost no competition in that generation.
I really liked the wii and I really enjoyed it's virtual console selection. I feel like the gamecube was underrated and I feel that it was a good console with alot of great game's. I also loved the gamecube controller.
The virtual console was another really great part of the Wii - too bad you can't get anything on the Wii Shop channel anymore :(
Thanks for watching!
Yeah the wii definitely had a great selection of virtual console game's. There were also alot of great exclusive's for the wii that I really enjoyed. Yeah it really does suck that you can't get anything anymore on wii shop channel.
Who else still plays with the Nintendo Wii ✋🏻🙋🏻♂️
✋Here!! LOL thanks for watching :)
@@tech209k I’m a teenager and I still play the wii
@@tech209k facts and I also play those games wii sport and wii resort
@@tech209k wii will always be one of the best game consoles
My wife and I use the Yoga exercises daily until suddenly it doesn’t boot up??? Any suggestions?
Cursed Mountain on the Wii is fantastic. Anyone who likes atmospheric games like Eternal Darkness should give Cursed Mountain a go. The game is set in Tibet and has a fantastic soundtrack featuring Tibetan chanting and traditional instruments like gongs and singing bowls etc
Thanks for watching & for the suggestion! I'll have to check this out. It's amazing what kind of enveloping experiences you can make with 88 megabytes of RAM on a console from 2006 haha. :)
@@LowestLogan here's some gameplay of it. It's an obscure gem for sure! Not many games have an atmosphere like this one ruclips.net/video/qse98NhuXUs/видео.html
How have you only 647 subscriber you deserve so more !
Haha thank you so very much!! I guess we'll see if RUclips decides to push my channel lol. I really appreciate the comment :)
Hey man new subscriber, keep it up with the videos, I see it’s been a couple months, and of course I understand if you got more personal life matters to tend to, I really enjoyed this break down, makes me want a Wii again.
Hey man thank you so much for the comment!! I am so sorry for missing it. Yep things have been busy but I'm happy that you all are enjoying the videos and comments like these just make my day. Thanks again :)
@@LowestLogan hey man your being happy makes me happy 😊, I love gaming, tech, cars, and basketball so I love coming to videos like these. Hope your doing well man.
Wii brought parents, grandparents, and women to gaming.
I think the game that really uses the Wii remote and hardware the best is Wario Ware Smooth Moves.
Skyward sword and wii sports wants a word with you.
@@CarlJohnson-gj1tq So would Metroid Prime 3 & Zack & Wiki.
Agreed. With the Wii Virtual Console no more, my Wii SD card is worth its weight in gold.
Great vid/editing/content. You have my subscription
Much appreciated! Thank you for watching :)
I’ve inherited a Wii in 2022 and my GenZ kids that are all younger than it love playing Resort like I do.
The Wii was amazing
How is it possible that the time on the wii menu in the background stays on 9:54 the whole time? It must be a looping video.
Yep, it's a short looping video haha, good catch!! Thanks for watching :)
Getting a wii right now.
Backwards compatibility ❤❤❤❤
It was actually PlayStation 3 that won against Xbox 360 because at the end of that generation PS3 has sold more units then the Xbox 360
Thanks for watching! And I absolutely agree - it's still an incredible piece of hardware for homebrew and messing with development!
I’m wondering if it is safe to do the latest system update after installing homebrew
Where can I find one cheap?
@@SobrietyandSolace Yep!
AND YE WILL BELIEVE FOR SURE DAT WII IS NOT EVEN A RETRO KONSOLE SISTEM
I should have made it clear that everything that I love about the Wii might be some reasons that the viewer would want to grab one - I guess the Dolphin thing did kinda dilute the point but hopefully that doesn't detract from most of the content :)
Thanks again!
Mod your Wii
Yup felt more like a history of the wii. Gave me no reasons of the advantages of buying in 2022 as title suggests 👎🏻
great video dude! cant wait for more
I appreciate it!! Thank you for the support :)
The amount of content In Brawl still amazes me.
10:36 omg I totally forgot the existence of this game.... Even tho it was a great part of my childhood
LOL it is such a weird game but I've actually had some good fun with it. Thanks for watching :)
Fantastic video. Really enjoyed it
Hey glad to hear it! Thank you so much :)
mine is coming next week, and im excited like a kid lol
good to hear!! I hope you enjoy it! Thanks for watching :)
Great video of this awesome games machine,
Love your videos bro!
Thank you very much!! I appreciate it :)
The only thing stopping me is not know how long it will last does it last a long time ?
Good job! 👏👍
Really good deal! RIP those remotes though, that battery acid can really destroy them unfortunately. Thanks for watching :)
@@LowestLogan yeah though with selling wii sports I made my money back so basically it was a free wii so can't really complain if 2 controllers don't work. No problem at all great vid
You've dropped that wiimote too many times. Jittterrry!
Great video I still play my Wii all the time my favorite game on the Wii is Wii sports,
Good to hear!! Wii Sports is always a really good time haha :) Thanks for watching!
You should make a compilation video of people breaking their TV's. That's first one was hilarious.
LOL yep it's this weird cross between gut-wrenchingly painful and extremely satisfying to watch. Thanks for watching ;)
I really enjoyed watching the video I guess you will gain more audience in short span
Hey I appreciate it! Thank you very much :)
Great video. But you repeated the same section where you said you can turn the Wii into an emulation box from 10:40 to 11:01. No biggee. Just letting you know.
Wow thanks for watching!! I didn't even catch that, my bad lol. I appreciate you letting me know and watching that far :)
I think if Nintendo made a Nintendo Wii mini it would sell like absolute crazy!
They actually did it
Yeah, but it sucked
This kid is funny! I just hooked my wii up after about ten years or so sitting in the box, found a new/old call of duty modern warfare & wanted to see what it was like on the wii? Not bad need to get the zap gun or probably the wii classic controller pro would be a huge upgrade. Forgot how fun the wii actually is!! Great vid, very educational!👍🏼
No one ever plays anything but Mario Kart Wii with the new Wiimmfi revival, I miss watching Brawl tournaments online but I never was good as a kid to compete with
Please make that homebrew video for the Wii U. Your content is fantastic.
5:12 wait, you are able to move the channels?!!! How did I not know this?!!
Yep LOL! Just like moving a Mii in the Mii channel. What will you do with this new power??
Thanks for watching :)
@@LowestLogan I will move out of the way the channels I don't use, and thank you, keep up the good content!
My friend got this wii before 2020 from his dad that died
Made great memories with family and friends with the wii
I wish they still remade the old consoles. The mini idea was great but they ditched it for subscription services instead. I really wanted a gamecube mini but that will never happen now that companies are all about subscription services.
Will the WII Play ZX Spectrum games on a modded console ?
Thanks for watching and for your kind words :) It looks like an emulator does exist wiibrew.org/wiki/FBZX_Wii so you should be able to play ZX Spectrum games on a homebrewed Wii!
I had one of those huge 400 pound thick box tvs and when the controller would fly out of my hand, it would just smash into pieces because of how thick that tv was.
The best game to me was Fast Draw Showdown, we had a lot of fun playing that game.
Thanks for sharing!! I appreciate it :) The Wii is a perfect system for playing with friends haha, so many great multiplayer titles.
💣
I still smash my Tv with the remote😂

I love my Nintendo Switch more because is a hybrid console between home and portable console
Thanks for watching! The Switch is a great system :)
Very good video!
Still play wii iin 2022! Xenoblade can take 300h! it's insane for a wii game xD
