We love it! But we since we needed to redo all the interior, we didn’t have enough time to fix mechanical stuff. Next time we will have less problems:)
I can totally relate to everything you said about your van. Even though my T3 has broken down a couple of times and it has given me quite some grieve in the past two years, I absolutely LOVE being on the road with it. There is nothing like discovering the world in a T3 in my opinion :) Thanks for your amazing videos and hit me up next time you are in Germany :)
Yes yes yes, that’s spot on the way we feel it too😊 And the great reception we get wherever we go, especially Germany loves their bullis😃 Alright, and let me know if you pass through Norway👍🏼
My dad found a t25 in a field rusting away for 14 years and he fixed it up and our van is the same colour as yours. It’s hard work and needs constant fixing up but the memories you make and they’re just beautiful. They’re great!
I am looking foreward to more great travel vlogs from the three of you...I meant to say all four of you because I think the T3 is also a member of your family....every motor driven vehicle has a soul of its own. Wishing you safe and happy travels
Very well done video, nice contrast between scenic shots and personal life. Flowed beautifully. I have a T4, with a Wallas diesel cooktop heater, you don’t need the cooktop I realize, but mine works great. Looking forward to more videos. 🇨🇦👍💛
Hi guys , nice Videos :-) we drove around 7500km in 2 and a half weeks this year in my 85 T3 Westfalia without any problems. For the future I can really recommend you to make an engine swap from diesel to gasoline GTI-Engine (2E,ADY or AGG). The swap is really easy as the diesel engine has the same motorblock. I did it 2 years ago and I´m very very happy, it is much more quiet, much faster and in sum simply more modern and makes much less problems compared to the diesel engine (I had breakdowns every summer and finally had been sick of it). If you´d like to have some more informations just write me. Until then keep on doing what you do, amazing pictures!
Hi! That sounds really interesting. Not sure how to go about doing something like that. I know that the Norwegian rules for things like that can be somewhat strict. I’ll look into it though!
Thanks Simon, we learned so much and can't even understand that we set out with next to no experience with these old vans. Luckily we managed and now we are completely sold, we'll keep cruising along every summer from now on 😂🙌🏼
Great videos guys! I have watched all of them and really enjoying it. Can i ask you, what awning do you have, and what drone do you use? Best regards from Denmark
@@SimonBraeck thanks, i found one, the arb 2500, fits perfect! i saw that you installed a diesel heater in the van, and you connected it directly to you diesel tank, how did you manage that? do you have a picture of it? because we thought about it as well, but i dont understand how i would work out? best reagards Stefan
I did over 20,000 kms in a Kombi around Europe in 1980. It never once let us down. Regular maintenance and a good tyre kicking kept it moving. Watch and listen for signs of wear and tear. But most of all, enjoy the trip.
I am looking into VW T6 with nothing inside to build a van life. I have found a couple used one but it is hard to find everything inside empty. I will definitely let the company install the camper for me. I will do the rest inside as you guys did. I love your van. Blue is a good choice. I love your journey and storytelling. One of my favorite people to blog across the world.
Tip for everyone planning trips lile this: get the van 100 % serviced and replace stuff ahead. New batteries, starter and altenator helps. Do not safe on that.
Amazing series of you guys traveling through Europe. Must be a dream to be able to do this in a campervan like this. Keep it up and looking forward for whats comming in the future.
I've just found this video and I love it. Just hired an old T3 in Lanzerote for 4 days, it was a bit of a wreck but we fell in love with it. We have a T4 Caravelle at home in the UK which we also love. It looks like U2 have had a blast on yr tour. Fantastic scenery in yr video's . Enjoy your van & life on the road. Take care.😎🇬🇧
I can totally relate to that feeling! Even though the old vans are kinda unreliable, it still makes for so much fun and nostalgia driving them. So many friendly meetings on the road and we got to see lots of cool places and camp close-by the same places. Thank you, I wish you the same 😊😊
Hey Simon, regarding the aux battery charge, consider buying and install a POWER SERVICE. It increases the amps the alternator send to the aux battery and will charge it in a sensibly shorter time. I have installed a 25ah model and it really is a game changer. With just one hour of driving I almost have my aux batteries (2 x 120ah) 100% full. My compliments for the quality of these videos. Keep up the great work. :)
In my T3 I installed a Planar 2D and a 200 W solar system with a 100 Ah AGM battery. That's enough for a compressor fridge and to charge all the stuff. The secondary battery is under the driver seat, with room for more 100 Ah under the passenger seat. The Planar heater is great and the installation is very easy. If you don't want to put it inside, you can even put it in a box under the van.
Lovely, that sounds like a solid setup. Do you have a recommendation for the solar panel system? The ones I have found seem waaay to expensive, especially considering the amounts of sun we have in Norway! I would love to use the space under the front seats, currently its nothing there.
Cant beat a T3. Iconic and well liked. Even though i now have a new ducato based van, i cant bring myself to part with my 'Bulli'. (partly because i spent so much restoring it!). Have taken mine into mainland europe many times and its never let me down. I really miss the camaraderie you get in a T3!
That’s how I feel too. The community around these vans really surprised me. And it’s so cool that people like these vans so much, that they are willing to deal with all the restoring/fixing.
Just found your channel! I'm restoring a T3 at mo, and also building an LT35 Luton build at same time! Will watch your oast episodes and catch up...for inspiration 🚐🚐
Nice Travel video and nice t3 We travel with our high top bay window every summer for couple of weeks with our family of 3. We traveled 60000km since we bought the vw 9 years ago. We do not take spare parts or toolbox (other than swissarmyknife and a small leatherman). Our mantra is 1. Make the checks before starting the travel and adhere to the preventive maintenance schedule also while traveling. 2. Don’t overheat (as it’s an air cooled we installed a oil temp sensor to make sure) 3. There are very few damages that prevent you from driving to the next garage of your choice, on your own power. 4. If you need a jump start... you need the jump starter cable... you will always find someone willing to help with their battery... as long as you know how to connect. 5. Often best memories are made if travel takes unexpected turns. So far we had to go off itinerary looking for a garage only twice while traveling. Both times we made great memories. We installed two solar panels two years ago and we purchased a shower tent and pressure shower... best purchases ever... we ve be been enjoying our travels completely without the campgrounds since. To more great memories made on the road. Safe travels.
Thank you! Sounds like a well thought out strategy. Our problem was that we spent all the time between buying the van and heading out on the road, fixing the interior from scratch. So sadly the mechanical things got less priority. We paid the price later, but we’ll get it right next time :) I’m also all about taking unexpected turns and that makes it all much more fun and interesting. We would really love to get some solar panels. Looking into it before our next long trip.
We traveled from Spain to Sweden, to our MC Clubhouse every year from 1988 until last year (in 1997, 98 & 99 we crossed your beautiful Country, all the way from Sandefjord to Bergen and Trondheim). Some 300000 Kms with lotsa stories. In 2002 we bought a new T4 "California". Perfect, yes, but... no stories.
Great video, thank you for sharing. I've got my diesel heater from aliexpress, it's the 5kW version and if you sort by orders when searching on the site you can easily find it. It was around 100 euros. It's working great and doesn't use a lot of fuel. Good luck on future ventures! I'm looking forward to more beautiful shots.
I really like your videos! But I have a technical question, what kind of headlights are in your T3 and where did you buy them? Keep on cruising! Best regards, Gerard
We really enjoyed watching your videos. We just bought a 90 Westy Vanagon (I guess you call it the T3 camper) a little less than 2 years ago. We're from So. California, but we're planning to take our westy to Europe for a year in the not-so-far future. I'm curious what apps you used to get help when you broke down? Your videos are very encouraging. Hope you keep it up. Great shots and videos btw.
Oh wow, that sounds like a real adventure for you guys! Awesome. We found forums on facebook etc. where people were really friendly and got us in contact with the right people/places. For finding places to camp we used an app called park4night. Thank you😊
Love watching your videos, we are looking for a T3 at the moment. And we will be doing some traveling with our dog so your experience is perfect for us to get inspiration. Can you share which spare parts you keep on the road with you? Thank you
Hi! Thank you for the great feedback. I hope you find a good van! We bring extra oil, tools, belts, a battery booster, strong tape, strips, jack, spare wheel etc. I’ve heard that petrol engine owners bring spark plugs too.
4 года назад+1
Common issues are coolant leaks and overheating, so bring spare belts, hoses, hose bandage, hose clamps, spare water pump and coolant sensor.
I started watching theese because u have always wanted a VW T3. It looks like some work but loads of fun! I cant drive yet but i still love theese vans!
What an absolute delight to watch your adventures (even though I'm late to the party it seems). Two questions from someone looking to go on a similar journey but in Canada, which means longer drives between destinations. Did you only shower every 3-4 days at camp sites or had a daily "refreshing" routine too using small amounts of water? What about... well... toilet needs? Restrooms along the way I figure?
Thanks Stephane :) Yeah, you're right. Taking a dip in a lake every now and then or using facilities at camp sites along the way. Petrol stations sometimes offer shower facilities and is our go to place for toilet visits. Also, grab a quick coffee at a cafe and use the restroom, everything is doable.
The common vanlife - diesel heater at the moment is the Air2d You can get it for example at the website of tigerexped. I dont know where you can get it in norway
I'd recommend getting a Planar 2kW diesel heater. Mostly because it is really sold in Europe and thus easier to get consumer protection. Although the user interface is just as bad as with Eber/Webasto. Also, the 2kW is more than enough to heat a T3 since our full-size Transit stays warm enough in 0 degree temperatures. Although we also have a lot less in windows. Love seeing an old T3 with round headlights, it's the car I learned how to drive in way back when...
The Planar 2D is probably the best version of a heater for a small van! The price is not the lowest, but the quality is really solid would always go for a proper heater instead of getting a cheap china one.
@@SimonBraeck i have the Webasto Diesel heater in my van. I have camped in 32 degrees Fahrenheit weather, with the inside of the van at 75 degrees Fahrenheit
How long does it take you guys to plan the road trips? I would love to see a Norway road trip. I honestly have read a lot from Visit Norway, but I know it would be different visiting the places/regions.
Thats a hard question to answer, but I guess it took us approximately 2 weeks where we from time to time worked on the best schedule for our trip. Usually we just save places we wanna see in our Google Maps and we try to connect the dots afterwards. Cool! Hopefully there will be a similar series from Norway next summer :)
Check out the AIR 2D (new name) / PLANAR 2D (old name) diesel heater from Autotherm. It has 2kW heatingpower and only needs 0,1l diesel per hour and 10W at low setting.
We have one available, but because we want to mount in underneath the van to maintain interior space, it’s a bit more complicated. Look forward to getting it in place :)
Hi Simon I enjoy watching your movies, great places you've been. My family and I are going to Switzerland and Austria next summer in our T3, so you have given us a lot of inspiration. What are some things you would like to do on your car?
Hi! Cool, great to hear. A lot of places to see over there, but atleast you’ve got to see some of them through these videos:) I would love solar panels on the roof and a diesel heater inside. Some small tweaks are needed, but those are the big ones.
I have some videos of the popular chinese diselse heaters in my channel. I have not install it yet, but you will get an idea regarding the differences between the 2kw and the 5kw heater 😀 And make sure you visit me in Molde in your upcoming road trip next year 👍😀
I thought I was getting a video on what lessons you learned (good and bad) after 8000km. Instead I got a long drawn out lifestyle video that I skipped as it was simply boring
Hello, I have a t3 and a Sony A7lll, your images are amazing ! I think its was recorded in 442, yours colors are si beautiful, what is your secret ? A LUT ? Thanx
Hey! Thank you so much🙌🏼 To be honest I only use the standard picture profile. I use a personal LUT now, but I used to use the Osiris LUT on a adjustment layer with low opacity to keep it a bit low key. Thanks for watching :)
I can do a short recap as including all the places we saw will take ages to write😂 The main line was something like this: Oslo, Malmö, Copenhagen, Harz, Stuttgart, Luzern, Zermatt, Susten pass, Plansee, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Dolomites, Halstatt, Königssee, Salzburg, Saxon Switzerland, Hřensko and then the quickest way back home to Oslo again. For more details, see the previous videos from this road trip on my channel😊
So beautifull shots and wonderful trip! It's true summer adventure. We bought an old Mazda bongo for building a campervan and exploring Kazakhstan on the same distance. Thank you! Your lessons was usefull. Check it up!)
I've been a member of the UK based Club 80-90 site for 12 years and couldn't have kept our T3 (T25) running without the advice and help I've got from the other members. forum.club8090.co.uk/index.php
I mainly used a norwegian facebook group (VW T3 Division Norway), but there are plenty of good resources out there. Thesamba.com have a great forum too
Almost as beautiful as norway actually, but there is no fiords...... When realising that I turned the car around emmediatly and heading to scandinavia... hell
you could put the (Diesel)Heater under the front passenger seat...in a small "box" - see the Austrian forum...(www.vwt3.at/index.php?/topic/45644-bh-box-standheizung-unter-dem-beifahrersitz/) its in German, but there are a lot of pictures and I hope you get the idea...
You've probably heard of most of these, but Vanagon.org has a lot of good tips and a small store. Van Cafe and GoWesty are probably the two biggest vendors over here in the USA. Campervanculture.com is a bigger vendor in the UK. Seems like you guys have better access to parts in Europe, so maybe the Vanagon / T3 specific vendors aren't quite as important over there.
In Europe T3, England T25, America Vanagon and then you have difference in what type, i.e. Microbus in South Afrika (Kombi/Caravelle), or Weekender in US (Multivan with Westfalia poptop, not same as Weekender in Europe ->hardtop camper).
Final episode from the summer road trip! Now it's time to do further improvements on the van. What would you like to see? 😊

@@SimonBraeck thanks good to know 😊👍
on which forum did you get such a fast reply? Thanks
We use a 12v camping fan heater. It's got a thermostat built in.
Fab series!! Where does the young lady get her 'Keep Going' VW T-Shirt?
Hey, thanks! I think she found it at H&M😄
@@SimonBraeck Thanks. Enjoying your channel very much during the lock down.
The bridge seen at 1:05, where's it from? Would love to go there :-)
The Planar 2D is probably the best version of a heater for a small van! The price is not the lowest, but the quality is really solid would always go for a proper heater instead of getting a cheap china one.
I’ve head good things about this one! Need to take a closer look at it :)
@@SimonBraeck i have the Webasto Diesel heater in my van. I have camped in 32 degrees Fahrenheit weather, with the inside of the van at 75 degrees Fahrenheit
Great video! :) we’d recommend a Autoterm Diesel Heater, has been a life saver on the road!
Thank you! I’ll check it out. I think it will be a life saver for us too on our Norway trips😊❄️
Have you made a vid of the route you did??
No, but that might be a cool video to make, thank you for the idea🤗
Greetings from California. I own a 1987 Syncro. What is the name of the lake with all the little boats tied together? Love your videos!!!!
Hi! Nice, would love to own a Syncro myself. The lake is called Lago di braies.
Have you ever tried to jump your main battery from your extra one? Works just like a portable jump starter haha
We have a portable jump starter actually, if not we might have used the second battery as you mention🙌🏼
Oh yes, that sounds familiar. Another bulli owner recommended that to me when we met them this summer. I’ll check it out👍🏼
Amazing shots!
Wow so beautiful. Thanks for sharing with us.
My pleasure😊 Thanks for watching!
A chinese vebasto for about 120€ from amazon/aliexpress would be a quite nice performer on Your van.
We have one available, but because we want to mount in underneath the van to maintain interior space, it’s a bit more complicated. Look forward to getting it in place :)
RAD video Simon and sweet VW bus. When are you coming to the states?
Thank you🙌🏼😊 who knows, as soon as possible I hope. I doubt the van will make it over though😂
Hi Simon
I enjoy watching your movies, great places you've been.
I have not install it yet, but you will get an idea regarding the differences between the 2kw and the 5kw heater 😀 And make sure you visit me in Molde in your upcoming road trip next year 👍😀
Ok, will check it out, thanks! Yes, would love to if it fits our itinerary 😊
Addtl. when using top mounted heater, especcially at night install a CO warning device.
We have that in place already, important safety precaution for sure!
3:28 Use a temporary top mounted heater on your cooker. Look on ebay for "Stainless Steel Portable Mini Camping Warmer Heater".
Thanks Hans! Will look into it for sure :)
Gorgeous footage. Thank you.
Thank you so much😊
Super!
As always great landscapes :)
Thank you Bruno☺️
What Kind of rooftop is this. Where can i buy it???
Hi! Its kind of a rare variant called SCA. Im not sure if its available anymore to be honest...
@@SimonBraeck unfortunatly Not avalible anymore. The company still exist, but nothing for T3 :-/
I thought so... I think the westfalia roof is better anyway😊
Great pictures/clips very artistic
Thanks!😊
Great Video Guys 👍
We' ve done simular Tours in our t3 called "Willi"
Thank you! Lovely, so much fun cruising in these old vans.
Great video thx and greetings from Berlin in Germany
Thank you😊
The van is 1.6 D or 1.6 TD? Great trip :)
It’s a TD :) Thank you!
Can you share the route with us? I want to drive kinde of the same route as you guys. Awesome footage btw :D
Thanks you! That sounds really interesting. I want to visit Kazakhstan too! Good luck :)
very beautiful video! today is a good day
Whats the website where you can find mechanical help from other VW enthusiasts?
I've been a member of the UK based Club 80-90 site for 12 years and couldn't have kept our T3 (T25) running without the advice and help I've got from the other members. forum.club8090.co.uk/index.php
I mainly used a norwegian facebook group (VW T3 Division Norway), but there are plenty of good resources out there. Thesamba.com have a great forum too
@@SimonBraeck Thanks and always: Happy trails!
Hey could you told me where you bought your ventilator? I am searching for one a long time
Almost as beautiful as norway actually, but there is no fiords......
That’s really smart actually. It’s just empty space at the moment. I’ll take a look and prepare google translate too🤓
If you fit a split charge relay for your secondary battery you would have just charged it as you drived around.
Yes we have the split relay:) When we spend more time hiking than driving, we still need to top it of at a camp ground.
@@SimonBraeck ah OK! We have to do that sometimes too. Always nice to find somewhere to fully charge and clean up.
How menny solar panels do you have ? What controler ? What tipe inverter 12-220v do you have ?
Great journey Thanks
Thank you😊
T3 for life! :-)
Yesss!!🙌🏼
Is this a VW thing? Definitely very cool vans but i feel like reliability is questionable.
Yes, it’s something you know about once you get a van like this. Great nostalgia but it comes with a few negatives😂
I live in a t3 hi top in the same colour
Until you get a heater, use hot water bottles...
I’ve used GoWesty and campervanculture, but the other ones were new to me. I’m impressed by the selection of parts available to these old vans.
So, then see you back on the Autobahn, soon ;-)
Let’s hope so!😊😊
mount the heater under the car so ut doesnt take any room inside!
That sounds really smart. I think I would need some help doing it though. Thank you for the advice.
4:42”,such a beautiful scene
Thanks, I think so too🥰
LA VITA È BELLA... 💚💚💚🌲🌲🌲🌎🌎🌎👏👏👏🇮🇹
What type of engine you have ?
1.6 turbodiesel
I gona instal 1.9 tdi in my van ;)
Bernardas Maksimavicius i guess 1.9 diesel is better then the 1,6
Wee will see I gonna instal electric part.
I had 1.9d. But now I gonna instal 1.9tdi with computer. 66kw and I gonna chiptuning until 81kw. Just boted VW golf for donor;)
Hi
Great video. Thanks.
Norway If I get my transport, I would be very interested in joining up with you, even if it is now and again.
Thanks
Hi! Thanks for watching. Maybe our paths will cross at some point :)
Какая красота !
Should have gone with a high top bro.
I can’t bro. Our garage is 2,05m 😳
www.webasto.com for heating solutions for any vehicles, including the Westfalia VW. Cool Van! Thanks for sharing your build and journey.
отличный видос) спасибо)
🤔🌎🧗♀️🇬🇧next time check your van before you go and your partner not to show some much body keep safe 🤞💪✌️
New idea: VW GTI campervan.
Haha, sounds like I have to go solo in order for that to work out😂
peace n beautiful place👍👍👍👍👍🇳🇵❤️🙏
Thank you! We had a great time😊
regarding cheap diesel heater:
www.amazon.de/AGKupel-Standheizung-Luftheizung-Lufterhitzer-Fernbedienung/dp/B07XJ49HVH/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8
webasto vevor 8kv, 150 euro, cia
I always thought they were t25
In Europe T3, England T25, America Vanagon and then you have difference in what type, i.e. Microbus in South Afrika (Kombi/Caravelle), or Weekender in US (Multivan with Westfalia poptop, not same as Weekender in Europe ->hardtop camper).
What he said!⬆️😊
👍👍👍
Super :) Pozdrawiamy
Thanks!
Hi love your video , try one per day 😉😉🍻 enjoy your trip
Thank you! Haha😉
